What We Did Today:
Students went over the answers from Problem 3.2 and completed Problem 3.3-Spinning on a Grid: Coordinate Rules for Rotations. Students had to determine patterns between sets of ordered pairs as well as rotate a given figure on a coordinate plane. Notes for 3.3 are available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/math-8-plus-blog.

Homework:
None.
Stein - Individuals & Societies 8 - 3.22.17
What We Did Today:
Students discussed Chapter 12, Section 2 and used a note-taking guide/summary sheet to help with summarizing skills. Students started reading Chapter 12, Section 3 in class. Students defined the bolded words in the section using the reading, not the glossary, to build familiarity with context. A copy of the Guided Notes/Summary of section 2 as well as the mp3 files of all readings is available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/individuals--societies-blog
Section Main Ideas:
1. The spread of mills in the Northeast changed workers' lives.
2. The Lowell system revolutionized the textile industry in the Northeast.
3. Workers organized to reform working conditions
Homework:
Finish reading Chapter 12, Sections 1 and 2 if not completed in class.
Announcements:
There will be an open-book test over Chapter 12 on Tuesday, March 28.

Math 8 - Stone
Stein - Math 8 Plus - 3.20.17
What We Did Today:
Students started Investigation 3. Problem 3.1 - Flipping on a Grid: Coordinate Rules for Reflections. Students took a basic design element on a coordinate grid and found the rule that generalized reflections based on given lines of symmetry. Students also worked on ACE questions 1 – 3, 8, 16, 26.
Focus Question:
How can you describe how points "move" under a reflection with coordinate rules in the form (x,y)→( , ) when the reflection line is (1) the x-axis? (2) the y-axis? (3) the line y=x?
Homework:
Finish 3.1 A – C if not completed in class.

What We Did Today:
Students completed Problem 2.3: Minimum Measurement: Congruent Triangles II. Students also worked on ACE questions 7–12, 19–26, 33–35, 40.
Focus Question:
What is the smallest number of side and/or angle measurements needed to conclude two triangles are congruent?
Homework:
None.
Stein - Individuals & Societies 8 - 3.13.17
What We Did Today:
Students completed Chapter 11, Section 3 reading and Section Assessment. Students also began studying for their Chapter 11 Assessment on Thursday, March 16.
Main Ideas:
Many Americans believed that the nation had a manifest destiny to claim new lands in the West.
As a result of the Mexican-American War, the United States added territory in the Southwest.
American settlement in the Mexican Cession produced conflict and a blending of cultures.
Homework:
Finish the reading and section assessment if not completed in class. Audio mp3 of the section is available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/individuals--societies-blog.
Start studying for the Chapter 11 Assessment that will be this Thursday, March 16.

Stein - Math 8 Plus - 3.7.17
What We Did Today:
Students completed Problem 2.2: Supporting the World: Congruent Triangles I. Students used measurement of sides and angles to decide if pairs of triangles were congruent. If the triangles were congruent, students needed to identify corresponding vertices as well as give a sequence of transformations that would make the figures overlap. Notes are available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/math-8-plus-blog
Focus Question:
How much information do you need to decide that two triangles are probably congruent or not congruent? How do you go about planning transformations that 'move' one triangle onto another?
Homework:
None.

What We Did Today:
Students received Chapter 10 tests and reviewed 11.1. Students were introduced to 11.2 in class. Time was given in class to read section 2 and work on the section assessment.
Main Ideas
Many American settlers moved to Texas after Mexico achieved independence from Spain.
Texans revolted against Mexican rule and established an independent nation.
Homework:
Chapter 11, Section 2 Assessment is due tomorrow. Audio mp3 of the section is available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/individuals--societies-blog

None.
Stein - Individuals & Societies 8 - 3.6.17
What We Did Today:
Students were introduced to chapter 11 and began to work on 11.1 section assessment in class.
