Tuesday, January 31

Science: Today we began our unit on electricity. All labs have been returned, lab corrections are due on Monday, February 6. We will go over the midterm on Thursday or Friday (after everyone has had the opportunity to take it!).

Geometry: We finished going over the 7.5 notes (tangent ratios) and took a quiz on 7.1-7.4. Homework is the 7.5 worksheet. The chapter 7 test is Wednesday, Feburary 8.

ELA - Students learned about point of view, listened to "The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs" and viewed a video of a poem called "Lost Generation" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42E2fAWM6rA. We then practiced writing an argument from another point of view.  Homework: Read, TKM chapters 7-9 due Thursday

Tech - we continued with our Moodle work with an Information Literacy assignment.

Humanities: Students discussed 9.1 and 9.2 in class. Students also began to take notes on 9.2.  Homework is to complete 9.2 notes and a current event for tomorrow.

Algebra (Hill): Practice the review problems for tomorrows quiz on sections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4

Pre-Algebra: We went over rules for exponents. We got started with negative exponents and an exponent of zero. No homework.

Algebra (Graham): Finished up solving systems of equations using elimination. We have a quiz tomorrow over sections 11.1-11.4. Homework: 2 worksheets (practice quiz and story problems


Technology (Graham): Worked on Moodle-module 0 (Notetaking)

Science: Today we took the midterm exam, no homework! Labs will be returned tomorrow.

Geometry: We went over the 7.4 worksheet and began discussing 7.5 (tangent ratio). Students shared their kitchen geometry projects. 7.5 notes are homework, 7.1-7.4 quiz is tomorrow and the chapter 7 test will be on February 8.

Pre-Algebra: Students finished quarterly assessments. We started lesson 4.5...rules of exponents. Homework-worksheet 4.5, # 1 - 21.

ELA - students were given the hour to read silently, fill in their reading journal, and/or look up vocabulary words for To Kill a Mockingbird chapters 7-9. They were also given the opportunity to speak with me if there was a confusing point in this week's reading. Homework: TKM journal chapters 7-9 due Thursday.

Tech(Kennedy) - Students continued in Moodle learning about Copyright law and quizzing themselves on how to avoid violating that law during their school work.

Algebra (Hill): Finish the section 7.4 worksheet (EVENS ONLY) Review sections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 for a quiz on Wednesday this week.

Algebra (Graham): Worksheet 7.4 (7-17 odd). Quiz on Wednesday covering sections 11.1-11.4

Science: Went over the midterm review and the study guide (both of which were posted on Wednesday). Homework is to study for the midterm on Monday!

Geometry: Went over the 7.3 worksheet and encouraged students to remember to at least TRY every problem. I am concerned that students don't look back to the notes that we took on a section (or the section in their book) to help them figure out how to solve problems. All problems on the homework have an example in the notes that will at least help get you started! We then completed the 7.4 notes (special right triangles), 7.4 worksheet FRONT SIDE ONLY is homework. Students were also encouraged to come in at lunch and work on the homework or come in early if they ever have difficulty and want help. ***Reminder, kitchen geometry project is due on Monday.

Humanities: Students reviewed the Constitution and began to work on two Constitution worksheets in class. Constitution worksheets are due Monday.

Pre-Algebra: We took a quarterly assessment today.  No homework.

Spanish I: The reading comprehension packet you have been working on this week is due on Monday. The oral quiz will be next Friday, Feb 3rd, or the following Monday, Feb 6th.

ELA - Students had a busy day. first there was a "Fact or Opinion" worksheet to work on. Then they took their first To Kill a Mockingbird quiz, this week was chapters 1-6. Next students expanded on their "unfair" journal entry for their Writer's Workshop.  Homework: Read.

Technology - Mrs. Weiss came in today to start the transition to Berkley High. Former Norup and Anderson students were interviewed on the High School on video. It was interesting to see our students all grown up! Homework: Turn in Practices and Expectations if you haven't yet. Practice on Typingweb.com

Science: Today we played jeopardy to review for the midterm. Roller coaster labs are due tomorrow and the science midterm is Monday. See yesterday's post for a copy of the study guide and review.

Geometry: Went over the 7.2 homework and reviewed solving quadratics (They're BAACCCKKK!). Took notes on section 7.3 (similar right triangles). 7.3 worksheet is homework. This chapter will be challenging and I have urged students to commit to spending lunches with me to get extra help with the homework.  

Pre-Algebra: Students worked on a review today.  It is all due tomorrow.

ELA: Students had their reader's journal checked for completion. We discussed the current chapter sections and reviewed the vocabulary. Quiz tomorrow on Chapters 1-6 and vocabulary.

Tech (Kennedy): We continued with Moodle the first assignment is due Friday - Nettiquette.

Science: Worked on the midterm review, if it is not finished in class then it is homework tonight. Science lab is due on Friday and the midterm is Monday, a study guide was also passed out today.

Geometry: Went over the 7.1 homework and had a GREAT time remembering how to solve systems of equations and quadratic equations! We then completed the 7.2 notes (converse of the pythagorean theorem), 7.2 worksheet is homework.  Kitchen geometry project is due on Monday.

Pre-Algebra: Quiz today. No homework.

ELA: Students viewed Public Service Announcements and saw how they are used to give an opinion. We then wrote about an issue that bothered us and why. This was Day 2 of our Writer's Workshop on Persuasive Research.  Homework: Finish Journal entry & TKM Journal chap 4-6, Quiz on To Kill a Mockingbird chap 1-6 Friday.

Tech -(Kennedy) Students were introduced to Moodle and the environment we will be working in this school year. Logins are soon to follow.

Humanities: Students took chapter 8 test and turned in homework folders in class today. Current events are due tomorrow.

Science: Peer reviewed the roller coaster lab (see yesterday's post for a copy of the rubric). Final draft of the lab is due on Friday, January 27. We will spend the remainder of the week reviewing for the midterm. Midterm is Monday, January 30.

Geometry: Started chapter 7 by discussing what we know about the Pythagorean theorem and what it means and taking 7.1 notes. 7.1 worksheet is homework and the kitchen geometry project is due on Monday, January 30.

Spanish I: We went over the oral questions for the quiz in a few weeks. Keep these safe and study your answers every night. We also began a reading comprehension packet that is due Monday, Jan 30th.

Humanities: Students reviewed 8.3 guided reading and worked on chapter 8 study guide in class. Homework is to study for the chapter 8 test tomorrow. Current events are due Thursday. Study guide and essay answers are attached.

Pre-Algebra: We reviewed for our quiz tomorrow.

Algebra (Graham): Discussed lesson 7.1 (Solving systems by graphing), Homework: worksheet 7.1A (odds) [attached]

Technology (Graham): We made word clouds about an influential person. We used Wordle.net.

Day #1 of Semester 2!

Science: Worked on the midterm review and rough drafts for the roller coaster lab. Rough drafts need to be complete tomorrow for peer review and final drafts are due Friday (rubric is attached). Midterm review is due on Thursday, midterm is Monday, January 30.

Geometry: Went over the midterm exam results and kitchen work triangle requirements. Kitchen work triangle project is now due on Monday, January 30. We will start chapter 7 tomorrow.

Pre-Algebra: Today we worked on LCM again.  Students were given a review on lessons 4.1 - 4.4.  Quiz is Wednesday.

Humanities: Students reviewed 8.1 and 8.2 in class. We also introduced 8.3 and began to work on 8.3 guided reading. Homework is to complete 8.3 guided reading. Chapter 8 test is on Wednesday. We will have a review tomorrow.

Algebra (Hill): Today we began our study of "systems of equations" by graphing two functions and recording their point of intersection. Homework finish the 7.1 worksheet passed out today in class.

Algebra (Graham) We went over the midterms today. Students are welcome to meet with me one-on-one to discuss their exams. If parents would like to see the exams, please contact me via e-mail. Homework: Graphing worksheet. It is review. It is in preparation for the upcoming unit, which is solving systems of equations.

ELA - Students were given time to read chapters 4-6 in To Kill a Mockingbird, define their vocabulary words, fill in their journals. Journals and vocabulary are due on Thursday, this Friday's quiz will encompass chapters 1-6 journal and vocabulary. Homework: Read.

Technology (Kennedy): Welcome back to Technology! We went over rules, practices and expectations, and cleared/organized our H:drives. Signature sheets went home, due by Thursday for an A.

Technology (Graham): We went over procedures and discussed our plans for the semester.  Homework: Have parents sign procedure sheet. Due tomorrow.

Science: Hours 3, 4 & 5 met today and worked on the roller coaster lab. Rough drafts for peer review are due on Tuesday, January 24. Final drafts of the lab are due on Friday, January 27. The science midterm will be on Monday, January 30.

Geometry: The kitchen geometry project is now due on Monday, January 30. We will work on the project some in class on Monday.

Science: Students began building (hours 3-5) and collecting data for roller coasters (hours 6 & 7). We will continue with data collection and writing up the lab tomorrow, lab planner is attached. Our peer review will be on Tuesday, January 24 and the final lab will be due Friday, January 27. The science midterm will be Monday, January 30 (we will review next week).

Geometry: Went over the review packet and discussed theorems to use put on the referance sheet. Midterm is tomorrow!

Algebra (Hill): Practice all types of problems from chapters 1-6. Bring your book home. Midterm Exam begins tomorrow January 19th! Bring your calculator!

Pre-Algebra: We talked about fractions and equivalent fractions. We also worked on reducing when there are variables in the numerator and the denominator. Homework-worksheet 4.3, # 1 - 27 odds.

Humanities: Students completed their first "Big Ideas" quiz in class today. In addition, students shared current events and discussed C.N.N Student News. No homework.

Geometry: Students reviewed for Thursday's midterm exam.


Science: Students watched a video on the physics of roller coasters and did some reviewing for the midterm exam.


Pre-Algebra: We continued to work on GCF with monomials.  Homework is worksheet 4.2, #7 - 25 (odds).



Humanities: Students checked 7.4 notes and chapter 7 assessment in class today. Current events due tomorrow. "Big Ideas" quiz tomorrow.


Spanish I: The first part of your midterm is tomorrow, and the second part is on Thursday.



Language Arts: Students learned a little history about the 1930s and were introduced to our next unit To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.  Please excuse the condition of the books, they have lived a hard life :).  We started reading the first chapter section (Chapters 1-3) and began filling out the worksheets for the reader's journal.  Three chapters will be due each week by Thursday, as this will be our class discussion.  Homework: Read TKM 1-3 and complete the questions for the Reader's Journal.

Science: Discussed yesterday's efficiency and energy flow investigation and completed the Unit 3 notes. Efficiency worksheet is homework. Next week we will beging working on the Roller Coaster Lab which will be due January 27. Midterm is January 30

Geometry: Went over the review of chapter 1 and Chapter 6 tests were returned. Homework is to complete the midterm review for chapters 2-4 (see yesterday's post for a copy of the midterm review), midterm is Thursday, January 19. Directions for the kitchen work triangle project were also discussed and examples were shown to the class. Kitchen work triangle project is due Wednesday, January 25.

Language Arts: Students polished and turned in their Literary Analysis! We took a quiet day to read and take AR quizzes prior to starting our next novel unit....To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Have a great long weekend. Happy Birthday MLK

Geometry: Took the chapter 6 test. Homework is to finish kitchen measurements and Midterm review chapter 1.

Science: Investigation on Efficiency and Energy Flow Diagrams. Quest corrections are due tomorrow.

Humanities: Students checked 7.3 section assessment and worked on 7.4 guided notes. Homework is to complete the guided notes. Big Ideas for the week:
-Revolution was diverse.
-We needed help to win.
-It was a civil war.
-There was a cost for victory.

Lanuage Arts: Students worked on publishing their final draft in the Media Center. We were unable to book the Media Center for tomorrow, so I asked those that are able to type tonight to do so. Geometry: Went over the practice test. Chapter 6 review, odds, is homework. Students should check their answers in the back of the book. Chapter 6 test is tomorrow, midterm is Thursday, January 19.

Science: Began working on the last section of notes for this unit (pg. 101-102 & 240-243). Quizzes were returned and quiz corrections were discussed, quiz corrections are due on Friday. Quiz correction sheet is attached.

Spanish I: We will be going to the lab at Avery on Friday to continue reviewing for the midterm. Remember that the midterm is next week, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Language Arts: Students Peer Edited their partners papers and are to make adjustments to their Literary Analysis if adjustments are needed. We will be in the Media Center tomorrow to publish/type out final drafts. Any students that need to finish typing on Friday will be able to do so on the COW in the classroom. Friday the Literary Analysis packet is due in this order:

- Outline
- Rough Draft
- Peer Editing Sheet
- Final Draft Typed (12 pt font, double spaced, 1" margins)

We will start our next novel unit on Tuesday: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee...I'm so excited abouthis book, I love teaching this American Classic!
Remember the marking period ends next Thursday/Friday (depending on what hour you have me) so all three AR books for this marking period should be done by Thursday....latest.

Geometry: Went over the 6.7 homework and discussed taking measurements for the kitchen work triangle project. Chapter 6 practice test is homework. The chapter 6 test is Thursday and the midterm is Thursday, January 19.

Science: Took the Unit 3 "Quest" today. No homework. We will complete the chapter this week and start on the lab for this unit next week. The science midterm is January 30.

Humanities: -Students checked 7.1 notes and were introduced to 7.2 in the text today. Students had time to begin to work on 7.2 guided notes in class. 7.2 guided notes and current events are homework. Remember the "Big Ideas" for the Revolution are:
-Diversity-this was a world war that involved people from many countries!
-We need help-without assistance from foreign powers (France/Spain) we could not have won!

Spanish I: The midterm Spanish exam will be on Wednesday, Jan 18th and Thursday Jan 19th

Language Arts: Students continued their Literary Analysis by finalizing their Rough Drafts. They must have this ready for the morning as we will be Peer Editing tomorrow. The schedule for the remainder of the week is as follows:
Tuesday: Finish and revise rough draft.
Wednesday: Peer Editing (Sheet to be filled out) - Final Revision due for homework.
Thursday: Publish - Type in the Media Center

Science: Watched Bill Nye "Energy" and went over the Work & Mechanical Advantage worksheet. Quest is tomorrow, homework is to study (go over notes, practice solving problems, make flashcards, re-do homework problems).

Geometry: Went over the 6.6 homework and 6.7 notes (similarity transformations). 6.7 worksheet is homework. Chapter 6 test is Thursday, January 12.

Algebra (Hill): Study for you chapter 5 test. Use your notes, homework, and exam review packets to prepare. Your text book is full of examples to use on problems you are struggling with.

Humanities: Students reviewed the early years of the war, discussed 7.1 and began to take notes on 7.1 in class. 7.1 notes are homework. Current events due Wednesday.

Spanish I: Spanish midterm will be on Jan 18th and Jan 19th. We will be reviewing all of this week, and next Tuesday.


Algebra (Graham): Reviewing for midterm. Assignment is 2nd page (ch 3 and 4) of review packet. Exam is January 17th and 18th.

Language Arts: Students continued their Literary Analysis by finalizing their outlines, adding claims and summarizing their supporting details. The examples are attached. The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday: Finish Outline, start rough draft.
Tuesday: Finish and revise rough draft.
Wednesday: Peer Editing (Sheet to be filled out) - Final Revision due for homework.

Geometry: Went over the 6.6 notes (Proportionality theorems) and the chapter 6 quiz was returned. 6.6 worksheet is homework. The chapter 6 test is Thursday, January 12 and the midterm is Thursday, January 19.

Science: Finished the pulleys investigation and discussed mechanical advantage and work. Work and Mechanical Advantage worksheet is homework, Unit 3 Quest is Tuesday, January 10. The science midterm is tenatively scheduled for January 30.

Pre-Algebra: Students took the chapter 3 test today. No homework.

Spanish I: There will not be a 2.1 unit test on Monday.

Algebra (Graham): We started reviewing for the midterm today. I will supply all of the study guides in class, but I have attached them, as well. The midterm will be given Tuesday, January 17 and Wednesday, January 18. Practice Exam 1, Practice Exam 2, Midterm Study Guide, Midterm Practice.

Language Arts: Students continued with Thesis Statements, nailed one down and began testing their statement. To test the statement we separated each of our provable points and found evidence to back that statement up. If there wasn't enough evidence to prove one point, we revised our Thesis statement to accommodate for this deficiency.  Homework: Finish the Thesis Testing sheet (outline of paper-file attached) ready for rough drafting on Monday. Read!

Humanities: Students shared current events and continued our discussion on the early years of the American Revolution. No homework.

Science: Began our investigation on work and simple machines. No homework, chapter 3 "Quest" is no Tuesday, January 10.

Geometry: Went over the 6.5 homework and took 6.1-6.5 quiz. 6.6 notes are homework. Chapter 6 test Tuesday, January 12.

Pre-Algebra: We reviewed for our Chapter 3 test tomorrow.

Algebra (Hill): Start working on your chapter five review packet problems. Bring your Algebra books home and work on all chapter five chapter test questions. If you are having difficulty look through the examples given in the book and in your note taking guide. Be prepared to solve each type of problem you see in your review packet on your test. Your chapter five test is scheduled for Tuesday so you should have all your review problems finished Monday so we can answer any questions you may have before class on Tuesday.


Algebra (Graham): Chapter 5 test today!
Humanities: Students discussed the Declaration Of Independence and watched a video on the beginning of the American Revolution in class. No homework.

Science: Today we completed a jigsaw notetaking activity on pages 70-72 & 91-93. No homework, "Quest" on Monday.

Geometry: Went over the 6.4 homework and completed 6.5 notes (proving triangles similair by SSS and SAS). 6.5 worksheet is homework. 6.1-6.5 quiz tomorrow, chapter 6 test on Thursday, January 12. 

Spanish I: 2.1 test on Monday, January 9th.

Humanities: Students created classroom time lines for the events leading to the American Revolution, watched CNN student news, turned in homework folders and shared current events in class. No homework.

Pre-Algebra: We worked on a review for our test on chapter 3 on Friday.  We will review tomorrow.

Language Arts: Students were given time to finish their journal entry from yesterday, read, or take AR quizzes at the beginning of class.  We then moved on to Day 6 of our Literary Analysis Writer's Workshop.  This is going to be checked tomorrow for a grade.  Attached is the lesson printout, it can also be found on my district web page. Homework: Read, Home journal entry, and Day 6 journal entry.

Algebra (Graham) Chapter 5 test tomorrow!  I have attached an extra copy of the review.  Good luck studying!

Monday, December 3

Geometry: Reviewed sections from chapter 6 and took notes on 6.4 (proving triangle similiar by AA). 6.4 worksheet is homework. Quiz on sections 6.1-6.5 Thursday.

Science: Reviewed energy and the formulas for potential and kinetic energy. Potential & Kinetic Energy worksheet is homework. Energy "Quest" on Monday, January 9.

Humanities: Students reviewed the events leading to the American Revolution by working on a story board in class. Homework is to complete the story board (six panel minimum-each panel uses several sentences and a picture to describe an event leading to the Revolution-the chronology must be correct. Current events are due Wednesday.

Language Arts: Students were given time to read or work on an AR quiz...remember three quizzes are due by the end of the marking period, which is January 20th, a mere three weeks away! We then continued with our Writer's Workshop - Literary Analysis. We identified the theme of our short stories, found the paragraph(s) that supported this theme and explained why we thought that. This will go directly into our final paper for Literary Analysis, so we really need to try our best on this assignment. Homework: Read, finish Lit Analysis Day 5 or new journal entry(36)

Algebra (Hill): Homework page 328 problems 1-14

Algebra (Graham):  Happy New Year! We finished up chapter 5 today. We are planning on testing on Thursday (maybe Friday if review tomorrow does not go well). Homework today is worksheet 5.7 (2-18 evens). Go Blue!!
Pre-Algebra: Today we went over multi-step inequalities. Homework=worksheet 3.6, # 13 - 20, 24 - 28. Chapter 3 test is Friday.
