Stein - Math 8 Plus - 2.8.17

What We Did Today:

Students started Problem 1.1, Butterfly Symmetry: Line Reflections. Students discovered relationship between a line of reflection and the line segments drawn from an original vertex to its reflection vertex. Students used these generalized relationships to draw their own reflections. Notes and vocabulary words that were discussed are available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/math-8-plus-blog

Focus Question:

What does it mean to say that a figure has flip or reflectional symmetry? How is each point related to its image under transformation by reflection in a line?

Homework:

None.

Math 8 - Stone

Tuesday: Day 2 of factoring! We talked about when the leading coefficient is not 1. There is educated guess and check involved.

Wednesday: We were pretty thorough with our graphing of parabolas today. Just from the equations, we can: determine if it is quadratic and if it is opening up or down, find the x and y intercepts, find the line of symmetry, find the minimum or maximum point, and sketch the graph. It is challenging.

Homework: Graph the 2 equations from the lab sheet:
