Classwork: Students finished up notes on section 2.2 on acceleration and Newton's 2nd law. They answered review questions and then had an assignment solving problems using the formula F=m*a. If students had science on Wednesday, we watched a video reviewing Newton's laws and answered program questions.

Today we created a concept map of this unit, Looking for Pythagoras. We have now wrapped up the unit and are preparing for the test on Friday.

Thursday, we will get our index cards to prepare them for the test. Reminder, no notes besides the index card can be used on the test. You CAN use a calculator though!

Classwork: Today we read about and reviewed how to calculate acceleration and about Newton's 2nd law.

Homework: Acceleration problems using the formula: (change in speed)/time

Coming up: Open note quiz on Friday, December 2. Students can use notes and homework to complete the quiz and corrections will be offered. The quiz will cover the first and second law as well as the acceleration formula and F=m*a (covered today and tomorrow).

Today we finished our last investigation for the unit. In investigation 4.4, we learned more about irrational numbers (non-terminating, non-repeating numbers). Extra credit was due today.

Today we finished up investigation 4.3. We discovered patterns when making fractions into decimals (and vice versa) with fractions that have 9 or 11 in the denominator.

Quiz corrections are due Tuesday, November 29. Remember quiz corrections could be the difference between and A and a B.

We completed Investigation 4.2 today. We learned about how rational numbers can create repeating decimals or terminating decimals. 

We also discussed our extra credit project- Making our own Wheel of Theodorus. Today we started investigation 4, the Wheel of Theordorus. We were able to explore the Pythagorean Theorem to find the spokes of the wheel. We were even able to explore the wheel with legs of 2 and 3.

On Monday, an extra credit opportunity will be introduced. It will be due the following Monday.

Classwork: Today we discussed the results of the second part of our investigation on inertia/Newton's 1st Law. Then we examined the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces as well as the definition of net force.

Classwork: Today we finished our investigation on the Law of Inertia after discussing our results from the first part of the investigation. Yesterday, we investigated what happens when we launch a car of different masses using the same force of an extended rubber band on a flat track. Today we investigated what happens to cars of different masses when gravity is used as the force instead.

Homework: Students should have all parts (graph, data tables, and questions) of the investigation complete for tomorrow.

Math 8 - Stone

Today, we spent a while reviewing our worksheets where we simplified radicals, solved equations, and practiced the Pythagorean Theorem. This gave us the opportunity to clarify misunderstandings and prepare for our quiz.

Since the PSAT is tomorrow, we have moved the quiz to Thursday to give us a short testing break.

Spanish 2

Students took the DOP quiz and learned about Machu Picchu. We will not meet tomorrow due to the PSAT for 8th graders. Please remember to bring a Number 2 pencil and calculator to the test.

Today, we created triangles on grid paper and found the length of the missing side by using the Pythagorean Theorem.

7th hour will complete the triangles for homework since we were doing pre-registration for the PSAT during that time.

Today, we found the area of squares which allowed up to find the side length of a triangle. We should be seeing a pattern in the side lengths of the triangles. Come prepared Wednesday to discuss what you notice. If you did not finish the lab sheet, you need to finish it for Wednesday.

Classwork: Begin our unit on Congruence by investigating how rigid motions result in congruent figures. Students also got their tests back and reflected on what strategies they used to prepare for the test. Re-takes will be available after school on Wednesday or at lunch on Thursday this week or any-day after school next week.

Topics on the quiz will be:
  • Area of an irregular shape (on review)
  • Relationship between area and side length AND between volume and edge length (discussed today)
  • Find the APPROXIMATE value of a square root to the nearest tenth (on review and practiced during several warm ups)
  • Find the length of a line segment without a ruler (reviewed all hour)

Today we worked on equation solving, estimating square roots to the nearest tenth without using a calculator, finishing our discussion of cube roots, and discussing the connections between cube roots and volume.

Review rules for coordinate rotations, translations and reflections....decide if your strategy will be to memorize these rules or if you would rather figure them out based on your understanding.
