Tuesday, May 31 (D-Day)

Science: Students worked on quiz corrections and the review for the final exam (1st hour played final review jeapordy). Quiz corrections are due tomorrow, final exam review is due on Friday. Science final is Monday, June 6.

Geometry: Reviewing for final exam. Final is Thursday, June 2.

Spanish I chapter test on June 2

Humanities: Students reviewed 18.1 and 18.2 in class. In addition, students were introduced to 18.3 and began to work on a free choice for 18.3. 18.3 free choice is due tomorrow. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Pre-Algebra: We started to work on lesson 8.8 (systems of equations). Homework-worksheet 8.8, #3 - 8.

Algebra: Our last lesson was presented today!  We will be reviewing tomorrow.  2nd and 4th hour will be testing on Thursday.  5th hour will be testing on Friday.  I have attached the practice test.

LA - students started watching Charly - a movie based on the story Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes. Cliff Robertson stars as Charly. :-) Students need to hand in their final paper by this Thursday otherwise points will be deducted for every day it is late. HW - working on paper if it is not completed.

Thursday, May 26 (C-Day)

Science: Quizzes were returned to 1st & 5th hours and students were given the opportunity to work on quiz corrections (4th & 6th hours do not meet today). Started reviewing for the final exam, which is Monday, June 6. We will continue reviewing all next week.

Technology - Students continued to present projects, hopefully we get them all done...as we only have 2 or 3 more classes!

Algebra:  Only 5th hour today.  Hwk:  worksheet 11.2A (all)  Have a great weekend!

Pre-Algebra: We went over lesson 8.6. Students had to write equations given the slope and y-intercept. Then they had to graph it. They also had to write an equation with the line given on the graph. We did a 4 question assessment in class. No homework.

Social Studies: Students shared current events, reviewed 18.1 and watched a video on Sherman's march. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days. Have a wonderful long weekend.

Wednesday, May 25 (B-Day)

Science: Went over the refraction homework and took the light "Quest".  No homework, we will begin reviewing for the final exam tomorrow. Final exam is Monday, June 6.

Geometry: Continued reviewing for the final exam. Final is Thursday, June 2.

Social Studies: Students reviewed homework folders and quizzes, discussed 18.1 and began to work on 18.2 section assessment in class. Homework is to complete 18.2 section assessment. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Pre-Algebra: We started lesson 8.6 (writing linear equations). Homework-worksheet 8.6, # 1 - 8.

Algebra: 11-3 (Solving Radical Expressions). Upcoming Events: Test on Ch. 11/12 (2nd/4th hour) Thursday 6/2 (5th hour) Friday 6/3; Final Exam June 9/10

LA - students typed up their final drafts. If they did not finish they are to get it done either at home or in school.  HW - working on final drafts.

Tuesday, May 24 (A-Day)

Science: Refraction demonstration and investigation. Refraction worksheet is homework. Sound & Light Quest is tomorrow. Science final is Monday, June 6.

Geometry: Went over the final exam review and worked on completing the review packet. Chapters 11 & 12 in the review packet are due tomorrow.

Pre-Algebra: We took a quiz on lesson 8.1 - 8.5. No homework.

LA - I returned the student's revised papers with corrections (those who handed them in) and they worked on fixing their revision paper so they will be ready to type their final draft tomorrow in class. Student's who were absent made up their prepositional quiz. HW - working on refining their papers.

Monday, May 23 (F-Day)

Science: Light & Optics Investigation. Sound & Light Quest on Wednesday, May 25. Final exam is Monday, June 6.

Geometry: Started working on the final exam review. Chapters 7-10 (#1-43) is homework. Final exam is Wednesday, June 1.

Social Studies: Students shared current events, reviewed Civil War quiz and watched a video on Gettysburg in class. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Algebra:  finish notes from 11.2 (page 8 and 9 from attachment) and wkst 11.2A (16-28 evens)

Technology: Students are presenting their Family Budget Project.

Friday, May 20 (E-Day)

Science: Completed the unit 6 notes! If students were absent yesterday they have Law of Reflection homework. Sound & Light "Quest" Wednesday, May 25. Science final Monday, June 6.

Geometry: Took the chapter 12 test. Geometry Final is Wednesday, June 1.

Art 7/8: Weaves continue! We are using a variety of supplies. Yarn, raffia, tinsel, fabric, fleece, shoe laces, tin foil, beads, dryer lint etc.etc! Homework includes bringing dryer lint, other interesting weaving items and a hanger for the weave.

Advanced Art grade 8: Floral still life paintings continued.

Social Studies: Students turned in homework folders, mini projects and took a quiz on the Civil War in class. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Algebra:  Simplifying Radicals!  homework tonight are problems 1-15 odd.  I have attached the worksheet.  Enjoy the weather!

LA - Student's took their grammar quiz on prepositional phrases. Those that were not here yesterday made up the homework and got caught up on the story we are reading in class. Once the quizzes were completed we continued reading and discussing Flower's for Algernon. HW - none.

Thursday, May 19 (D-Day)

Great day at Cedar Point yesterday! Thank you 8th graders for making us proud and thank you to all of the chaperones that helped make the day a huge success!

Science: Law of Reflection review and worksheet. The science final is scheduled for Monday, June 6.

Geometry: Worked on the chapter 12 review. Chapter 12 test is tomorrow. Geometry final exam is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1.

Social Studies: -Students checked 17.4, checked homework folders and reviewed for tomorrow's quiz. Homework folders, "mini projects," and quiz tomorrow. Current events due "C" and "F" days. **Quiz study guide is attached.**

Pre-Algebra: We reviewed for our quiz on Tuesday.

Technology: Our Final Project presentations are starting today (May 19th) and continuing until they are done...hoping they are done and graded before finals for other classes begin.

Algebra:  We started 11.1 (graphing Square root functions) today.  No homework.

LA - We reviewed for the grammar quiz tomorrow on prepositional phrases. We then started the story Flower's for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, it is the excerpt and not the whole novel. HW - study for grammar quiz.

Tuesday, May 17 (B-Day)

Science: Amusement park physics with a Nasa Twist.

Geometry: Went over the practice test. Chapter 12 test is Friday.

Art 7/8: Students have added warp thread to their looms and have begun to weave. Requirements from home include: dryer lint, a hanger for the weaving once it is complete and any other items students would like to use in their weavings...(examples...tin foil, fabric, rubber bands, hair ties, shoe laces, embellishments etc)

Advanced Art grade 8: All portfolios have been delivered to the high school for review!! Student tables have designed floral still life arrangements. Students are using acrylic paint on canvas to create their paintings.

Pre-Algebra: Students were given a quiz review. Most students finished it in class. We will review Thursday for a quiz on Friday.

Algebra:  Test today!

LA - Student revisions were due today. They peer edited once again and I collected the papers at the end of the hour. I will proofread them next and they will get them back on Tuesday 5/24. We also started on Prepositional Phrases, there will be a quiz on Friday 5/20. HW - None...enjoy Cedar Point!

Monday, May 16 (A-Day)

The internet was done most of the day at Norup, so there are not many blog posts. Everything should be back up to full operations tomorrow!

Science: Amusement Park Physics

LA - Many students had to re-take their appositives quiz for the 2nd time because they failed it miserably the first time. :-) The student's who passed with an 81% or higher did not have to retake the quiz and worked on their papers. HW - revisions of the rough drafts are due tomorrow, it is another homework assignment. I am collecting them as well to check, before they move on to their final paper. Thank you again to all of the parents who helped make Legacy Day such a success!

Thursday, May 12 (E-Day)

Legacy Day is tomorrow!
Students should be prepared to work outside and get dirty!
Closed toed shoes & 8th grade shirts are required!

Science: Went over the schedule for tomorrow's Legacy Day and completed notes on pages 498-502.

Geometry: LAST SECTION OF NOTES!!!!!!!!! Yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!! 12.7 notes in class, 12.7 worksheet is homework. The chapter 12 test will be Friday, May 20.

Pre-Algebra: We continued to work on lesson 8-5 (slope-intercept form). Homework-worksheet 8.5, # 3,4, 8 - 12, 15, 16.


Social Studies: Students discussed current events, reviewed 17.1 and were introduced to 17.2 in class. Homework is to complete 17.2 section assessment. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Algebra: All students have the review for the Chapter 10 Test Part II. For 8th graders/6th grader, the test is next Tuesday. For 7th graders, the test is Thursday.

LA - Students rough drafts were due today and counted as a homework grade. They peer edited and then were supposed to start their revisions. The revision paper is due on 5/17. HW - working on their final paper

Tuesday, May 9 (C-Day)

Science: Investigation 22-A & B- Mixing colors of light and the angle of reflection. 5th hour recieved their graded I-Search papers, corrections are due Tuesday, May 17.

Pre-Algebra: We worked on the slope of a line. Homework-worksheet 8.4, #1 - 3, 10 - 17.

Technology - Students were given time to work on their final project for the Family Budget project. If any missing assignments are in the gradebook the due dates were: Investigate (evidence of research) April 14th. Plan (rough draft of visual and speech) April 25th. The final project is due and presentations will begin May 19th....although there are a few students who would like to present this week, I may allow them to present early.

Social Studies: Students shared current events, discussed the Civil War and began work on a letter in class. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Monday, May 9 (B-Day)

Students recieved permission slips for Legacy Day and their 8th grade trip shirts. If students are unhappy with the size they ordered we can not promise an exchange as we have only ordered a limited number of shirts.


Science: Bill Nye - Light & Optics. 4th & 6th hour had their I-Search papers returned. Corrections are due on Tuesday, May 17.

Geometry: 12.5 notes in class (volume of pyramids and cones) and quizzes were returned. 12.5 worksheet is homework. Chapter 12 test Tuesday, May 17.

Social Studies: Students shared chapter 16 assessment, were introduced to chapter 17 and began work on 17.1 guided reading in class. Homework is to complete 17.1 guided reading. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Pre-Algebra: We continued to work on lesson 8.3, x-intercept and y-intercept. We practiced graphing all hour. Homework-worksheet 8.3, #1 - 7, 10 - 12

Algebra:  homework  10.6B (4-24 multiples of 4) and 10.7B (4-32 multiples of 4)

Friday, May 6 (A-Day)

Science: Began our final unit on light today with jigsaw notes for pages 478, 480-483. I-Search papers will be returned next week.

Geometry: Went over the 12.4 homework and took the 12.1-12.4 quiz. 12.5 notes are homework. Chapter 12 test is Tuesday, May 17.

Social Studies: Students checked homework folders, worked on chapter 16 assessment (pp 482-483), discussed current events and the battle of Shiloh in class today. Chapter 16 assessment is due Monday. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Algebra: Wow! It's been a tough week in algebra. The kids have worked so hard learning different forms of quadratic equations. Today's lesson was the quadratic formula. Ask them what that is! Homework is the 2 story problems from the notes. Have a great weekend!

Thursday, May 5 (F-Day)

Culinary Arts had a wonderful presentation by Chef Schoenbart, a recent graduate of Schoolcraft's culinary arts program (and former Norup student). She demonstrated delicious raspberry yogurt parfaits with home-made granola! YUMMY!

Science: Sound stations with tuning forks, pitch of percussion, wind & string instruments as well as graphing of sound based on temperature. Quiz corrections are due tomorrow.

Geometry: 12.4 notes (volume of prisms & cylinders) were completed in class as well as an activity to find out how the volume of a pyramid compares to the volume of a prism using rice krispies! 12.4 worksheet is homework. 12.1-12.4 quiz on Friday.

Algebra: We discussed vertex for (10.5 extension). The homework is going to take some time. We had about 20 minutes in class to work on it. 2nd and 4th hour: Test on Monday 5/16 (7th graders have test on Friday 5/13 ooooh!). 5th hour: Test on Thursday 5/12

LA - students took an Appositive quiz during class, they were allowed to use their notes. They also have a take home quiz as well which is due on Monday May 9th. This is also an appositive quiz (10 appositives in their paragraph). I passed out the 4 square organizational sheet so students could start to organize their final project/paper. The rough draft is due on Thursday 5/12. HW - working on the quiz and the paper.

Wednesday, May 4 (E-Day)

Science: Finished the Waves & Sound notes and worked on the Properties of Sound worksheet. No homework, but quiz corrections need to be turned in by Friday.

Geometry: 12.3 notes (surface area of pyramids & cones). 12.3 worksheet is homework. 12.1-12.4 quiz on Friday.

Social Studies: Students were informed of grades to date, checked 16.2 guided reading and read 16.3 aloud in class.  Homework is to complete 16.3 free choice. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Pre-Algebra: We will have a mini-quiz Friday on lessons 8.1 and 8.2.  We made a "cheat sheet" today.  You may use it on your quiz on FRIDAY!!

LA - students took their quiz on their novels today. I then introduced them to their final paper/project. We went over and discussed and if they had an questions they were answered.  They started brainstorming as well. For the students that have been recommended by me or you, the parent, into honors English next year, they were assigned a more challenging topic, which is choice #3, story analysis. This assignment is also worth more points. They did not have a choice in doing the other topics I provided for the students.  HW - start on their paper. The rough draft is due on May 12 for peer editing. We will be working on this assignment in stages.  The assignment is attached

Tuesday, May 3 (D-Day)

Science: Jigsaw notes pages 456-461. I-Search Research paper is due tomorrow.

Geometry: 12.2 activity investigating the concept of surface area. 12.2 notes (Surface are of prisms and cylinders) in class. 12.2 worksheet is homework. 12.1-12.4 quiz on Friday, May 6.

Technology - Today was another work day on the Family Budget.  No more due dates until the final project is due on May 19th.   FYI- the next grade check is Monday, May 9th - due to the fact that we are working on a large project and seeing the students so infrequently- there are only two grades for this marking period.  I will be sending out a grade check for any failing students by the end of today.

Art 7/8: 4th and 5th hrs. are still completing the "Color Explosion." Today, 2nd. hr. will begin plans for a fiber weaving! I am asking students to collect dryer lint from their dryers at home to add to the weaving!

 Advanced Art grade 8: Students have organized their portfolios for high school review. I will be sending them this week to the high school. They have also designed a flower centerpiece still life arrangement for each table.. Students have received canvas for their paintings.They have started their sketches on the canvas. I demonstrated a variety of painting techniques yesterday. Students will begin painting with acrylic paints tomorrow!!

Social Studies: Students received folder grades, checked 16.1 and worked on 16.2 guided reading in class. Homework is to complete 16.2. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Algebra: 2nd and 4th hours- section 10.4 homework p. 655 (4-48 multiples of 4) 5th hour - section 10.5 homework p.666 (12-44 evens not #42). Upcoming test- test over sections 10.4 to 10.8 (2nd and 4th hour on 5/13) and (5th hour on 5/12)

LA - Today we started or continued working on our paragraphs.  We literally took a topic and wrote a paper together. We talked about a good introduction and how to write one. How to write a thesis and were it should be placed in the paper. We went through transitions, supporting details etc. Tomorrow we will finish up with the conclusion. This is in lieu of their last literary analysis and what they need to focus on. They should not retell a story, but support it.  Students will take their A.R. quiz tomorrow, days were mixed up on the calender. I will also introduce their final paper project tomorrow as well. HW - finish your book if you didn't already! Luckily you got one more day!!!

Monday, May 2 (C-Day)

Science: Worked on quiz corrections and did Wave Stations. I-Search Paper is due on Wednesday.

Pre-Algebra: We continued to work on lesson 8.2. We are now writing equations in function form. Homework-worksheet 8.2, # 23 - 27, rewrite in function form and then graph.

LA - I only saw one 8th grade class today. We literally took a topic and wrote a paper together. We talked about a good introduction and how to write one. How to write a thesis and were it should be placed in the paper. We went through transitions, supporting details etc. Tomorrow we will finish up with the conclusion. This is in lieu of their last literary analysis and what they need to focus on. They should not retell a story, but support it. We will be doing the same thing on F day, May 5th for the rest of the 8th grade. I will be introducing their new writing assignment tomorrow.  HW - Students will be taking their A.R. quiz tomorrow so their  novels should be completed.
