Classwork: Today is the last day of research with the computers and books on alternative fuel sources. Research packets will be checked in class tomorrow for completeness, effort, and cited sources.  Argumentative papers will be due via Google Classroom on February 8th. Tomorrow we will resume our discussion of energy systems. All late/missing work is due by tomorrow, January 26th, for credit toward second marking period grades.

Coming up: We will be discussing energy conversions next week (Tues-Fri, Monday is the MYP field trip) followed by a Quest on Energy the week of February 6th.  The quest allows students to use their notes like a quiz but the score counts as a test grade. After the Quest, students will receive a study guide for the mid-term, as well as several days in class to review. The mid-term will happen the week of February 13th with an exact date to come.

Science-Wilcox-Tuesday

Today we discussed energy systems and reviewed formulas. Tomorrow will be the last day for research and packets will be checked in class Thursday.

Alternative energy paper is due February 8th. We will be having an energy quest (can use notes like a quiz but counts as a test) the week of February 6th.

After that students will be given a study guide and several days in class to review for the mid-term. These grades will all be part of the third marking period.

Mid-term:  There will be a mid-term in the third marking period, after the research paper and energy quest have been completed.  A review packet will be available and distributed after a date has been set.

Math 8 - Stone

Sorry I was out sick yesterday when we started our new unit, Frogs, Fleas, and Painted Cubes. It is our 4th unit and it is all about Algebra. It can be challenging. Be sure to ask questions to clarify any confusing parts. In investigation 1.1 we explored the relationship between length, width, area, and perimeter.

Monday's Homework: page 14 (1, 2,, 15, 16, 17 part a)

Today, we completed investigation 1.2. We discovered patterns when comparing length and width. We also summarized all the functions (linear equations, inverse variations. exponential, and quadratic) and what their equations, graphs, and data tables look like.

Students will have an open study session on Wednesday while Ms. Dixon is conducting speaking exams, so they need to bring any materials with them that they would like to use to study.

Classwork: We worked on an investigation about the conservation of energy. Today we will finish up the investigation and see how energy was conserved in the system of the car rolling down the track.

•    Groups are limited to no more than three people. A written copy of your workout must be given to your teacher prior to your performance of the routine.

Today we are starting our unit on Energy by reading about what energy is and how we can understand energy in the world around us.

Coming up: Students will be researching an alternative fuel source for a joint project with ELA classes. More information to come! The mid-term exam will come after the end of the second marking period.
