Sept. 30

Science: Today in class we learned how to solve speed problems using problem solving boxes. We did #1-5 together in class, the remaining 10 problems were worked on in class and anything not finished is homework. Quiz on Friday.

LA-Journal #13: What does it mean to live a balanced lifestyle? OR How can you live a balanced lifestyle. Grammar - Kinds and Structures of sentences. HW: Complete the grammar packet for Thursday.

Journalism: Read an article from the NY Times regarding the trial of Sean "Puffy" Combs.
What news is being reported? Where is the background as to why Combs is on trial? Discuss the alternate jurors opinion to the trial. What is the authors opinion on this topic? HW: What is your opinion of this case? Why? Full page with references from the article to support your opinion. Due Thursday.


Humanities: Current events were shared today. Chapter 3 Assessment (p. 88) is due Thursday. Test review Thursday. Test Friday.

IB word of the week= Balanced

Science: Today we went over the "Scientific Process" homework and began planning the "How Fast Am I?" lab. Quiz on Friday!

Geometry: Went over the practice test in class, Chapter Review (pg. 60-63) odds for homework. Chapter 1 test tomorrow.

LA - Journal #12 - Describe the room you would build for yourself if you were a carpenter and why? We continued reading and discussion poems for the literature book. HW: continue reading their reading counts books. Make-up quizzes fro the first reading counts quiz must be taken by Monday Oct 5th, otherwise the grade they have is the grade that they earned.

Journalism: Finished up our final draft letters. Students explored the backgrounds of their perspective guest speakers. They also came up with interview questions taken from the information they found. HW: none.

Spanish 1: Remember there is a test Thursday! To prepare, be completely ready to use the verb ser (to be). Here are some suggestions about ways to memorize…there are many more ideas!
Visual Learners…try to see the work, even if it’s just in your mind’s eye.
1. Write everything down so that you can see the words you hear.
2. Look at it.
3. Color code it, draw pictures and graphs. Make art of your studies.


Kinesthetic learners…add as much movement as you can.
4. Move your body as you study.
5. Write down everything…the movement of your pencil is still movement!
6. Write words or letters on small pieces of paper that you mix up, then use to recreate words or sentences.


Aural (auditory) learners…try to hear it, speak and make noise that relates to the lesson.
6. Sing it or chant it.
7. Have a partner read or speak the words to you.


Spanish 8: For Thursday, please prepare the small lecture about the geography of Latin America. You must read the following lines aloud, pointing to a map as you do so. You must say this to an adult and get a signature to verify that you have done so.

LA-I passed back their writing prompts and discussed with them with the class. I told them I would be available after school for personal questions. Journal #11 - You have won an Oscar for your acting ability. Write your acceptance speech.We read about poetry in the Literature books and discussed a poem by Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks. Spanish 1: Please memorize your lines form the conversation on p. 44 to present to the class tomorrow. If you did not finish the chapter review, please do so!

Spanish 8: Please finish reading the Social Studies text section about the Spanish explorers.

LA- Journal #10 - Imagine that you are a mountain. Write about what you see, hear and smell.
Corrected the workbook assignments (reading/test taking strategies) and collected them for a homework grade. We started our Poetry Unit by discussing the guided IB question - "How can words create emotions?" HW: finishing journal entries and reading their books. Reminder: the journals should have the date, title and half a page or written work to get FULL credit.


Journalism: We went down the media center to start typing our contact letters. HW: finishing up contact letters to be sent out.e New World to prepare for the lecture in Spanish.

Sept. 23

Science: Today we began learning how to use the cars on the tracks and began collecting data for mini-lab 1-A. Lab corrections are now due on Tuesday, September 29.

Geometry: Today we took notes on section 1.6 (polygons) and learned how to construct congruent segments as well as how to bisect segments using only a compass and a straightedge. 1.6 worksheet is homework. Chapter 1 test Tuesday, September 29.

Course 3: 1.1-1.4 Quiz and then Algebra Tile homework if not finished in class

Pre Algebra: No homework unless Algebra Tile Activity was not finished in class

Algebra: 1.7 homework for Hour 1, Study for Ch.1 test on Friday for ALL hours.

Algebra 2: 2.1 Homework

Humanities: Folders due Friday. ***Quiz postponed until next Friday, October 2nd.***

Language Arts: Journal #9 - Describe how being blind would change your life.
Finished up reading/test taking strategies. HW: finish journal entry. Students should also finish the writing prompt on pg 23 in their practice books, answer the questions from reading selection #7 (questions 48-52) and pg 60-61 answer the questions 53-62. We will discuss the HW in class tomorrow and start on our first Unit, Poetry.


Journalism: Students worked with their groups, preparing ways to contact their guest they would like to have come and speak to our class. Why do they want that person here? How is the letter going to sound? How are they going to get the contact information and who is going to get it...etc. HW: working on their contact information.

Sept. 22

Science: 1-5th hour did their first "jigsaw" note-taking. 6th & 7th hour continued with lab 1-A: looking at how to produce constant speed on a track. Most students got their labs back and all corrections are due on Friday.

Geometry: Went over 1.5 notes, 1.5 worksheet is homework. Chapter 1 Test will be Tuesday, September 29.

Algebra: 1.7 Homework for hours 4 and 6. 1.6 Day 2 homework for Hour 1

Pre Algebra: 1.5 Homework

Course 3: Quiz tomorrow and 1.1-1.4 Review

Algebra 2: 2.1 homework

Humanities: Current event due tomorrow (Wednesday). Folders due Friday. Quiz (meeting of three worlds) on Friday.

LA: Journal #8: Write a paragraph that includes 20 double vowel words. (ex. needle, good, mushroom). Continued with test taking strategies, should be done with this by Thursday or Friday at the latest. The first unit I will be covering is Poetry. HW: finishing up their journals and reading their books.

Journalism: Assigned groups to work on bringing speakers in to the classroom to interview. HW: contact information, and why they feel this person should come and talk to our class.

Spanish 1: The unit 1, chapter 1 test will be Thursday, October 1. The students received a sheet with the sections of the exam so that they know how to prepare. For Thursday they are charged with memorizing the sentences from the Quiz practice sheet. I will hand out the correct sentences in class tomorrow.
Spanish 8: The students today heard a small lecture about the geography of Latin America. For tomorrow, they must label these features on the blank map of the Americas that was handed out in class.

Sept. 21 International Day of Peace

During hours 1-3 all students participated in the 4th annual Peace Parade. During 5th hour all students watched a video called "The Day After Peace" about the history of the International Day of Peace.

Science: Labs will be returned tomorrow. Students may make corrections and re-submit labs on Thursday.

Geometry: Quiz corrections due tomorrow.

Algebra: 4th and 6th hour - 1.6 Day1 and Day2

Pre Algebra: Make sure you get parent signature on your quiz and do test corrections!

Course 3: No homework, quiz on Wednesday 1.1-1.4

Algebra II: No homework

Humanities: Current events due Wednesday. Folders due Friday. Quiz on Friday.

Sept. 18

Science: Lab 1-a introduced students to the timers and photogates that will be used throughout the year to collect a variety of data. Ask them about their reaction times on the stopwatch! No homework unless labs were not turned in.

Geometry: Took 1.1-1.3 quiz. 1.5 Notes homework.

Language Arts: Journal #6 - Write a paragraph about a girl named Dot, but use no letters with dots. (i, j). Continued with test reading and answering texts. Read aloud and discussed as a class. HW: reading their reading counts books and keeping up on their journals.

Journalism - both classes got together to brainstorm on what they would like to see happen in the classroom. Team building opportunities.

Humanities: No homework, enjoy your weekend!

All Spanish; There is no homework for Spanish over the weekend...just remember to review vocabulary when you have free time!

Science: Students received their science books/discs today. We did an activity to help students become familiar with their science books. Candy Coated Lab due tomorrow!

Geometry: Today we completed 1.4 notes (angles). 1.4 worksheet is homework. 1.1-1.3 quiz tomorrow. All quizzes are open note and quiz corrections will be an option as well.

Algebra 2: Test on Chapter 1

Language Arts: Went to the media center to take reading counts quiz. They also took out a new reading counts book. HW: none. :-)

Journalism: Students are finishing up their rough drafts of their "Personality Profile" interview articles. HW: Final drafts for Ms. Klein's class are due Friday.

Humanities: No homework

Science: Student's peer reviewed lab write-up's today. Final labs are due on Friday.

Geometry: Finished 1.3 notes (midpoint formula) and began 1.4 notes (angles). Completing 1.3 worksheet is homework. 1.1-1.3 quiz on Friday.

Algebra: Ch. 1, Section 4 on Writing and Solving Equations and Inequalities. Homework listed on Assignment sheet.

Pre Algebra: Ch. 1, Section 4 on ordering integers. Quiz tomorrow, Thursday.

Course 3: Played investigating Algebra game. Went over translating verbal phrases. 1.3 Homework listed on stamp sheet.

Algebra 2: 1.7 Homework. Test on Friday.

Humanities: Make a list of what you know about the United States Constitution.

Language Arts: Journal#5: If you could watch only one hour of television a week, what would you watch? Why? Students continued to discuss and review "Test Reading Strategies" as well as "Question Answer Strategies" HW: Students should have their journals up to date. Also students will be taking their summer reading counts quiz in the media center Thursday Sept 17th.

Journalism: Students worked on their rough drafts, "Personality Profile" interviews. They also peer edited each others papers. HW: finish rough drafts and start on the final paper.

Science: Today we worked on graphs and data analysis for the candy coated lab. Rough draft for peer review is due Wednesday.

Algebra: 1.3 Homework. Quiz tomorrow on 1.1-1.3

Pre Algebra: 1.2 Homework

Algebra II: 1.5 and 1.6 Homework, Quiz tomorrow on 1.1-1.5

Course 3: Went over Order of Operations worksheet and started 1.2. We also did MEAP review.

Language Arts: Journal #3: Where would you go if you had the change to take one trip in a time machine? Why? We went over and looked at different types of texts. How to recognize these texts and how to adjust if don't understand what you are reading. HW: finishing up their journals.

Journalism: Class did not meet today - assembly for dress code and magazine kick-off

Humanities: Geography Handbook assessment (p. 20-all) due Wednesday. Current event due Wednesday.

Spanish: Please make sure you have the classroom vocabulary memorized and can speak the small paragraph about the day. The basic paragraph is:

Sept. 11

Science: Students finished collecting data for the candy coated lab and began writing their methods section. We will work on making graphs and writing the data analysis section on Monday. On Tuesday we will work on our conclusions and critique/reflection. Supplies should be purchased and in class with students on Monday.

Geometry: Today we went over the 1-1 notes in class. 1-1 worksheet is homework.

Algebra: 1.2 Homework

Pre Algebra: 1.2 Homework

Course 3: Today we talked about Study Skills, Homework help and 1.2 Lesson. Students have homework listed on log.

Algebra 2: 1.4 Homework

All Spanish: There is no written homework over the weekend, but students who have not returned the sheet called "Make your homework work for you" should discuss it with a parent or guardian and return it on Monday. ¡Feliz fin de semana!

Language Arts: Students wrote on the topic: "Find a connection between your life and your summer reading book." Students had the whole hour to work on their papers. This will be counted as a quiz grade. Journal #2: What problems would you have if all the round objects in your life suddenly become square? HW: Finish their journal entry.

Journalism: Mr. LaFramboise class swapped with my class and students learned the 5 W's and how of journalism writing. Discussion regarding plagiarism and ethics was also part of this lesson. Students also took notes on the writing process of journalism. Students interviewed each other on their personality profile. HW: working on their personality profile and rough draft.

Humanities: Scatagories due Monday.

Science: Today we began collecting data for the candy coated lab. We will continue collecting data tomorrow and will work on writing up the lab next week. Signed letters are due tomorrow & supplies need to be purchased by Monday.

Geometry: Today we completed our comic proofs and students received their textbooks. The books should stay AT HOME as we have a classroom set here to use. Signed letters are due tomorrow and supplies need to be purchased by Monday. 1-1 notes for homework.
