Stein - Individuals & Societies 8 - 4.26.17

What We Did Today:

Students reviewed 15.3 and 15.4 and started a "Causes of the Civil War" time-line. The time-line needs to include at least ten causes of the Civil War. Each event needs to have an explanation of why it helped cause the Civil War.

Announcements:

Community Project presentations are due May 8. Please sign up with Ms. Stein if your group would like to use a computer during lunch Wednesday – Friday this week and next week. All 8th Graders are welcome to sign up!


Stein - Intro to Coding - 4.26.17

What We Did Today:

Students decomposed existing functions, wrote contracts that describe functions and experimented with basic geometric transformations. Students completed Stage 4, found on Google Classroom.

Vocabulary:

  • Rotate - To turn a shape around a center point.

  • Scale - To increase the dimensions of a shape by the same factor in all directions.

  • Translate - To move a shape from one location to another.


Stein - Math 8 Plus - 4.26.17

What We Did Today:

Students completed A and B from Problem 1.2 - In a Spin: Rotations. Students made generalizations regarding rotational symmetry. Students then constructed their own rotational figures using 120 degree and 90 degree rotations, choosing their own center point of rotation. Focus Question:

What does it mean to say that a figure has turn or rotation symmetry? How is each point related to its image under transformation by rotation?

Homework:

None.


Science-Wilcox-Wednesday

Classwork: We reviewed the Properties of Waves hw as well as the waves investigation from yesterday.
Students then read and took notes on Wave interference (pages 444-445, 447) and completed the interference practice.

Homework: Students have wave speed hw (assigned Tuesday) that is due tomorrow.
Open note quiz on Friday, April 28.

Canvasser 4.26.17 Wednesday

 RR ELA-The reading logs are due Monday ( 5.1.17) students should be reading for a minimum of 30 minutes for five days a week. Students must also complete the short reader's response section, along with having a parent signature for all five days.  Late co- teach summaries are due tomorrow ( 4.27.17) for late points on Google classroom.  The grammar quiz is Friday ( 4.28.17) students can study pages 42-49 in their grammar packet.

RR Math- The red group can complete workbook pages ( week 2, day 3) if not finished in class. The signed homework packet and multiplication sheet are due on/before Tuesday ( 5.2.17) the math test will also be on Tuesday ( 5.2.17). Students homework packet, notes, and workbook pages are great study tools!
