Corrected the workbook assignments (reading/test taking strategies) and collected them for a homework grade. We started our Poetry Unit by discussing the guided IB question - "How can words create emotions?" HW: finishing journal entries and reading their books. Reminder: the journals should have the date, title and half a page or written work to get FULL credit.
Journalism: We went down the media center to start typing our contact letters. HW: finishing up contact letters to be sent out.e New World to prepare for the lecture in Spanish.

Sept. 23
Science: Today we began learning how to use the cars on the tracks and began collecting data for mini-lab 1-A. Lab corrections are now due on Tuesday, September 29.
Geometry: Today we took notes on section 1.6 (polygons) and learned how to construct congruent segments as well as how to bisect segments using only a compass and a straightedge. 1.6 worksheet is homework. Chapter 1 test Tuesday, September 29.
Course 3: 1.1-1.4 Quiz and then Algebra Tile homework if not finished in class
Pre Algebra: No homework unless Algebra Tile Activity was not finished in class
Algebra: 1.7 homework for Hour 1, Study for Ch.1 test on Friday for ALL hours.

Finished up reading/test taking strategies. HW: finish journal entry. Students should also finish the writing prompt on pg 23 in their practice books, answer the questions from reading selection #7 (questions 48-52) and pg 60-61 answer the questions 53-62. We will discuss the HW in class tomorrow and start on our first Unit, Poetry.
Journalism: Students worked with their groups, preparing ways to contact their guest they would like to have come and speak to our class. Why do they want that person here? How is the letter going to sound? How are they going to get the contact information and who is going to get it...etc. HW: working on their contact information.

Continued with test taking strategies, should be done with this by Thursday or Friday at the latest. The first unit I will be covering is Poetry. Journalism: Assigned groups to work on bringing speakers in to the classroom to interview. HW: contact information, and why they feel this person should come and talk to our class.

For Thursday they are charged with memorizing the sentences from the Quiz practice sheet. I will hand out the correct sentences in class tomorrow.
Spanish 8: The students today heard a small lecture about the geography of Latin America. For tomorrow, they must label these features on the blank map of the Americas that was handed out in class.

During hours 1-3 all students participated in the 4th annual Peace Parade. During 5th hour all students watched a video called "The Day After Peace" about the history of the International Day of Peace.

Language Arts: Journal #6 - Write a paragraph about a girl named Dot, but use no letters with dots. (i, j). Continued with test reading and answering texts. Read aloud and discussed as a class. HW: reading their reading counts books and keeping up on their journals.
Journalism - both classes got together to brainstorm on what they would like to see happen in the classroom. Team building opportunities.
