Humanities: Students finished the geography bee in class today. No homework. Happy Thanksgiving.

Pre-Algebra: Today we went to the computer lab and practiced solving one-step and two-step equations, as well as equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign. There is no homework. Have a WONDERFUL break! :)

ELA - Students reviewed the requirements for academic writing and MLA format in Day 12. We will begin publishing next week as the earliest we could get to a lab (on wheels) is Tuesday. If your student has a moment over the weekend, please have them type their final draft so this is off of their plate. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Homework: Journal entry #2.26 Read.

Algebra: We took notes on section 5.1. Homework: wkst 5.1B (all)

Spanish: WHAT WE DID TODAY: We took a Vocabulary Quiz (Materias y Verbos). Students who finished early worked on a Thanksgiving Day Packet (en espaƱol). TAREA: Study the vocabulary and grammar that we've worked on in Chapter 2. There will be a Unit 2 Test not long after we return from break.

Science Students turned in the "Is the Force With You?" lab and began investigating Newton's 3rd law by observing what happens when cars of different masses collide.

ELA - Students Peer Edited their Literary Essays during Writer's Workshop Day 11. We then worked on revisions and/or read. Tomorrow we will see MLA format for our final drafts. Homework: Journal entry 2.24 and read

Humanities: Students turned in 5.2 section assessments and took the first round of the Geography Bee in class. No homework.

Chinese:  If you couldn't finish writing the story piece today in class, please finish it and turn in tomorrow.

Spanish: WHAT WE DID TODAY:
We reviewed Thursday night's homework (page 61, exercise 1). If you did not do it, make sure to hand it in tomorrow. We also learned about Prepositions of Location (page 60), and completed exercises 2 and 3 (page 61). For exercise 3, write 5 questions only. TAREA:

ELA - We are in the home stretch! Today during Writer's Workshop Day 10 we discussed the parts of a good introduction and a good conclusion. We viewed examples from our mentor paper using the mentor text "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury. Homework: Write or type all paragraphs as rough draft for Peer Editing on Monday. READ!!!


Algebra: We worked on a review packet for our graphing test on Monday, the answers are attached.

Science: Students continued working on the  "Is The Force With You?" lab rough drafts. Rough drafts for peer review are due tomorrow. Students do NOT have to print their paper as students can peer review with electronic copies to save paper. Students with google accounts will also be able to "share" their final drafts with me in lieu of printing out a paper copy. Final drafts are due on Monday, November 24.

Geometry: Continued our discussion of congruence by analyzing various congruence proofs. Quiz on concurrency is tomorrow. 


French 2: Unit 10 quiz tomorrow. Unit 10 test on Friday and Monday

Pre-Algebra: Today we finished notes over 3.3. The homework is 3.3, 1-21 odd and 23-24 due tomorrow. I have added a challenge worksheet on the back if a student wants to substitute a challenge question for a regular assigned problem, or just as extra practice. ELA - On Day 8 students debated each other's themes. We read over the three paragraphs written so far and found any different points of view and debated this. The idea is that the author should win because they have so many pieces of evidence to back up their thesis. Students then worked to incorporate the counterargument in to their paper, be it included in an already written paragraph or writing a new paragraph dedicated to the refuting of the counterargument. Homework: Journal entry 2.19 (counterargument paragraph) and READ!!! We are close to 1/3 way through the 2nd marking period we should have at least one quiz taken by now and well on our way to 1/2 way through our point goals!

Science: Worked on the conclusion and critique/reflection sections of the lab, rough draft is due on Thursday, November 20 and final drafts are due on Monday, November 24. Students will have the opportunity to type their labs tomorrow and Wednesday in class.

Geometry: Began developing triangle congruence criteria- no homework. Unit 3 quiz on Thursday.

ELA- Students learned how to incorporate evidence in their paragraphs during Writer's Workshop Day 6. Tonight's journal entry is to be a Connected Example paragraph. Homework: Journal 2.15 & Read. Attached are the transition words and phrases and extended example.

ELA - Day 5 - Students created their Thesis statements and by taking their outlines from last night and formatting their thesis with their theme with the three reasons backing this theme. We double checked our evidence, yet again, to be sure each piece of evidence directly relates to the thesis. We will begin our body paragraphs next week, working toward Peer Editing right before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Homework: READ!

Science: Students took the unit 2 quiz and then began working on measuring mass and deciding how much force they will use for the "Is the Force With You?" lab. Tomorrow we will continue with data collection and begin making graphs of the data.

Geometry: Continued discussing congruence criteria, homework is the congruence handout. Quiz on 3.1-3.3 Thursday, October 20.


Humanities: Students continued to work on 4.3 guided questions in class. There was also time to work on current events in class. 4.3 guided questions and current events are due tomorrow.

Algebra: No official homework. attached are the answers to the review. Please check out www.classzone.com for some extra practice (select High School Math, Michigan, and our book is Algebra 2007). Try the section quizzes from chapter 4.

Spanish: WHAT WE DID TODAY: I checked for completion of last night's homework, and also for materials (textbook, binder, pencil). We talked about similarities between European languages and how they relate to one another, and worked on Calendar puzzles. Finish by Monday, if it wasn't finished in class.  We meet in the PYP lab tomorrow for more Country Study research. Students should bring their Country Study papers if they started one. If they didn't, there will be more available in the lab. Students may bring ear buds to listen to music while working on their Country Study research papers.

Tomorrow we will start planning our next inquiry lab, and students will work on this for the remainder of the week and into next week. We explored themes and looked for evidence to support our theme, if there was not enough evidence to support the theme, we thought about changing our focus. ELA- Students took their Pronoun Quiz, we then moved on to Writer's Workshop. Students began their Writer's Workshop for Literary Analysis today with a discussion about what a short story is about. We discussed theme and how to read a narrative to analyze. Marking up our text packs with questions, sign-posts, etc. We then wrote about what all these notes meant to the meaning of the story. Tonight's journal entry is a homework assignment from our Writer's Workshop. Homework: Journal entry #2.6 - Read

Science: Took notes on acceleration and discussed how acceleration is different than speed. Homework is the acceleration practice.

Humanities:  Mr. Lyskawa recorded a video to describe what's going on in humanities, watch it here!  -Students reviewed 4.2 and were introduced to our "Declaration Project" in class today. Homework is to answer the following questions in preparation for our skits on Monday: Identify the 5Ws of the Declaration.
-What are the three main ideas in the Declaration (p. 119)?
-What are the arguments for freedom found in the Declaration (3 min.)?
-How did people feel about the Declaration? What are the documents strengths or weaknesses?

Pre-Algebra: Today we took the Chapter 2 Test. No homework.

French 2: Study 10.2 vocabulary, Exercises on pg 314-315 are due on Monday

ELA - Students graded their Grammar from last night, a very easy assignment but very important to their writing skills. We then worked on Grammar 3.9 and 3.10 - Pronoun Problems. This is due for tomorrow. Students should be reading through their Literary Essay Text Packet and have a short story chosen to use for their Literary Essay. Please be sure it is a story that the student can connect with, this will help them analyze the story if they can connect. Homework: Grammar 3.9-3.10, Journal Entry #2.4, READ! Grammar Quiz on Pronouns on Monday.

Geometry: Took our group quiz on reflections over parallel lines. No homework. 

Spanish: WHAT WE DID TODAY: We practiced conjugating 'ar' verbs, then worked on an 'ar' verb puzzle. Most of the 'ar' verb definitions can be found on page 51 in our textbook. Please see below for definitions of verbs not listed on page 51. Also, see the link to the 'ar' verb puzzle in this post. On the back of the puzzle, students wrote 12 sentences using a conjugated form of each verb. TAREA (Homework): Finish the 'ar' puzzle and sentences if you didn't finish it in class. Tomorrow we meet in the PYP lab for our class.

Science: Finished discussing the difference in acceleration rates on a flat track compared to a downhill track and learned how to practice acceleration. Students also discussed Isaac Newton and the universal law of gravitation.

Geometry: Began investigating composites of reflections over intersecting lines. Reflections of parallel lines quiz tomorrow!

French 2: Quiz on Monday on the passƩ composƩ, the present tense, the futur proche and the commands. This will be retakeable.

Humanities: Students analyzed election results and were introduced to 4.2 of the text in class.

ELA-Students discussed any problems with the Grammar last night. We then moved on to Grammar Chapter 3 Lesson 7 "Indefinite Pronoun Agreement", After passing out the Text Packet for our next Writer's Workshop (Literary Essay) I read the beginning of the mentor text "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury. I modeled how I would make notes at particular parts of the story, how I would think out loud what the theme would be, and how I would mark up the text to show evidence. Homework: Journal #2.3, Grammar 3.7, and READ!

Algebra: Finally! We are talking about slope. We discussed section 4.4. Homework: 4.4 worksheet (1-13)

ELA- We continued our study of Pronouns with Grammar Chapter 3 Lesson 7: Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement. While students worked on this worksheet I met with students individually. We discussed the reading they did last marking period, what worked what didn't and set their goals for 2nd marking period. Most students should be reading books that are 10 points or above. This can be checked on ARbookfind.com. Homework: Journal 2.2 (new marking period), READ!, Grammar packet.

Humanities: Students analyzed political commercials in class today. No homework.

Algebra: We discussed graphing linear equations using the x and y intercepts (4.3). Homework: 4.3 worksheet

Science: Took our first notes for Unit 2 on Newton's 1st law of motion, force, mass and inertia. Homework is to complete the Isaac Newton Reading Reflection. We will also have a binder check on Friday.

Geometry: Went over the composite of reflections over two parallel lines from Thursday and began doing proofs of composite reflections over two parallel lines. Homework is to complete the proofs of the other 4 cases.


Humanities: Students shared political cartoons and began to analyze political advertisements in preparation for the 2014 election. Homework is to interview someone at home. Students should ask the following questions: What issues do you believe are most important for this election? Who would you like to see as the next governor of Michigan? Why? Students should have answers to these questions for tomorrow.

Pre-Algebra: Today we took notes over 2.7, one-step equations with decimals. The homework is 2.5 - 2.7 Review all. Algebra: We finished our discussion of section 4.2 - graphing linear equations using tables. Homework: 3.8 practice (all) and 4.2 worksheet (evens only)

ELA- We continued our study of Pronouns with Grammar Chapter 3 Lesson 6: Interrogative and Demonstrative Pronouns. While students worked on this worksheet I met with students individually. We discussed the reading they did last marking period, what worked what didn't and set their goals for 2nd marking period. Most students should be reading books that are 10 points or above.
