Thursday, February 28


Spanish I: 2.3 quiz (part 1) has been moved to next Tuesday, March 5th.. The 2.2 test is still on Monday. The review packet passed out on Monday is now due this Friday. The 2.3 vocab packet passed out a few weeks ago is now due next Tuesday, March 5th.

Science: Read and took notes on pages 303-309 (Ohm's Law, resistance and voltage)

Geometry: Went over the 8.6 homework and worked on the practice test. The practice test is homework. Chapter 8 test is Monday.


Humanities: I am out of the building for district meetings on Thursday and Friday. Students should complete 11.1 and 11.2 section assessments for Monday. If students complete 11.1 and 11.2, they can work on 11.3 section assessment and/or extra credit opportunities I left with Mrs. Schoenbart (our substitute teacher). There will be no Friday blog posting. I look forward to seeing everybody again Monday.

Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: Students worked the entire hour on their college research projects. Homework: *Due to the large number of absent students yesterday, we will begin our presentations on Tuesday! Discussion topics: How many credits are you required to complete in order to receive your undergraduate degree?


Pre-Algebra: Homework:  6 graphing problems
 
Algebra: Took Chapter 7 test.  No homework.

Wednesday, February 27

Geometry: Went over the 8.5 homework and took notes on 8.6. Homework is the 8.6 worksheet. Chapter 8 test is Monday. 

Science: Did our first investigation with electricity with a simple circuit and discussed the flow of energy in the circuit. Students also experimented with various insulators and conductors. Lab corrections are due on Friday.

Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: Students worked the entire hour on their college research projects.  They will sign up for presentation days tomorrow in class. Homework: College research project due beginning of class Monday. Discussion topics: How many students attend the university you are researching?


Course 3: Today we went over homework and then practiced finding slope using the formula and counting rise/run. Homework is a 4 page review.  Many students finished in class.


Algebra We reviewed for our test today.  Homework is a review packet.  They were given the answers to it to help them study. Chapter 7 Review & Review Stations attached

Geometry: Took notes on 8.5, homework is 8.5 worksheet. Chapter 8 test is Monday

Science: began our notes on electricity.

Spanish: Study for the quiz on Friday and the test on Monday. The review passed out yesterday is due tomorrow.

Humanities: Students reviewed 10.4 and worked on a study guide for the test tomorrow Homework is to study for the test, no current event this week.

Technology- Orlando:   Introduced the college research project today. The requirements  and rubric are posted on edmodo? Presentations will begin on Monday.

Course: Today we learned about the slope of a line. Homework is worksheet 11.6 #1-4, and 5-27 odds.

Per-algebra: Cumulative revive due tomorrow.

Algebra: Review practice test due tomorrow. Chapter test will be Thursday (in case of blue buffalo the test will be Friday.)

Monday, February 25

Science: Daily Science quiz #70-84. Labs were returned and students used the IB rubrics to determine their IB grade and corrections were discussed. Lab corrections are due on Friday.

Geometry: Used the graphing calculator and Cabri Jr. to investigate midsegments of trapezoids. No homework. Chapter 8 test on Monday, March 4.

Pre-Algebra: We talked about graphing special lines (horizontal and vertical).  Homework: practice graphing lines worksheet.

Algebra: We went over the Problem Solving Workshop #7.  We started our review for Chapter 7 today.  We did a warm-up review.  Homework: graphic organizer for chapter 7 (attached).  Chapter 7 test this Thursday!



Spanish I: 2.3 quiz on Friday, March 1st. The vocab packet for this quiz is also due. 2.2 Chapter test on Monday, March 4th.


ELA - Students discussed their Day 7 teaching point, and we discussed any confusion they may have about the events in To Kill a Mockingbird through chapter 24.  Many did not read over break, therefore I opened up lunch for students to catch up and gave them the majority of the hour to read. On the board the schedule for the week is listed:

Humanities: Students reviewed 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 in class today.  We also introduced 10.4, and began working on 10.4 section assessment in class. 10.4 section assessment is due tomorrow. Tomorrow we will review chapter 10 in preparation for a test on Wednesday. Homework folders, and Chapter 10 Test, will be due Wednesday. No current event this week.


Technology 8 - Orlando What we did today: In preparation for our college research project, students explored Prezi. Homework: No homework. Discussion topics: What college or university will you be researching?  Why did you select that school?


Course 3: Today we did a review of all of the lessons from chapter 11. 1st - 3rd- No homework. 4th and 5th hour- review sheet for homework.

Geometry: Took the unit 8 quiz. No homework!


ELA - Read, Read, Read!  Students are to read through Chapter 24 by the time we get back from break.  If they choose to finish...even better!  We will have 3 more teaching points, but they do not coincide with the chapter sections for that day, so reading ahead is not a problem! Enjoy your break, read a good book, get started on your project if you have the time!

Humanities: Students  checked 10.3, watched student news and shared current events in class. No homework (unless you are missing work). Have a great break!



Technology 8 - Orlando What we did today: Students researched fun facts about chocolate and candy consumption.  Students finished their EDPs by setting their goals.  Each student also had to determine the college they will research when we return from break. Homework: No homework Discussion topics: What fun facts did you learn today? 

Course 3: Today we did a general math review.  No homework.  Enjoy your break.

Geometry: Went over the 8.3 homework and took notes on 8.4 (rectangles, rhombuses and squares). Homework is the 8.4 worksheet. Chapter 8 quiz is tomorrow.

Science: Took the midterm exam, no homework! Have a great break!

Spanish I: Finish exercise #12 pg 134. due Mon Feb 25th. The 2.3 vocab packet is due Mar 8, when you will have the quiz on these words. The 2.2 unit test will be on Mon March 4th.

Pre-Algebra: Graphing lines using x and y intercepts.  6 problems for homework.

Algebra: worksheet 7.6 all

Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: We discussed the differences between short and long-term goals and the importance in creating SMART goals in life.  They then worked to craft one short and long term goal for life and for their careers.  They must finish and upload all goals to their EDP by the end of class tomorrow. Homework: Be sure to come prepared with your four goals to add to your EDP tomorrow. Discussion topics: Was the goal-writing process an easy one?  Why or why not?

Course 31st - 3rd hours-Today we did review on the past three lessons.  No homework. 4th and 5th hours-We worked on finding the x-intercept and the y-intercept.  Homework is worksheet 11.5, #1,2, 4-22 even and 33.

Science: Today we went over the answers to the midterm review and any additional questions students might have. To study for the exam tonight students should go over the review and the study guide as well as jeopardy from yesterday. Students should also look over their previous tests/quizzes as many questions from those exams will be repeated on the midterm.

Geometry: Went over the 8.2 homework and 8.3 notes (using properties of parallelograms). Homework is the 8.3 worksheet, we will have a quiz on chapter 8 on Friday. 

Course 3: Today we worked on graphing linear equations using the x-intercept and the y-intercept. Homework- 1st hour-worksheet 11.5, 1-3, 7-17 odds and 33, 2nd and 3rd- worksheet 11.5, 1,2, 4-20 evens and 33, 4th and 5th hours did not meet due to field trip.

Spanish I: Exs 6,7,&8 pgs 130-131. Due tomorrow

Humanities: Students continued to work on 10.1 section assessment and 10.2 summaries in class.  We also watched student news and discussed the State of the Union address. Homework is to complete 10.1 and 10.2 for tomorrow. No current events this week.


Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: Today, students finished their side by side comparison of two careers.  They have now narrowed down their options in order to do further research on possible colleges and universities that can offer them the training they need for their chosen career. Homework: Complete the career comparison sheets, if not done in class Discussion topics: When considering future schooling, are you interested in staying in Michigan, or would you be willing to move out of state?


Pre-Algebra: 6 graphing problems
 
Algebra: Graphing systems of inequalities.  Homework: 4 problems.  Remember that the Problem Solving Workshop is due tomorrow.

Geometry: Went over the 8.1 worksheet and took notes on 8.2 (properties of parallelograms). Homework is the 8.2 worksheet. Quiz on chapter 8 is Friday.

Science: Played Jeopardy review for the midterm and labs were collected. Homework is to finish the review, midterm is Thursday. 

ELA - Students are continuing with their reading and Teaching Points for Realistic Fiction Reader's Workshop.  Final Project information was passed out so students (if they are so inclined) could get some work done over break. Final Projects are due March 3rd. Homework: Read Chapters 12-14.  Journal Entry #11

Humanities: Students discussed the State of the Union, and worked on 10.1 section assessment in class. If students finish 10.1, they can work on 10.2 summaries (read and summarize each sub-section of 10.2).  10.1 and 10.2 are due Thursday. No current events this week.

Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: Today, students did a side by side comparison of two or three careers that they identified yesterday as interesting.  They broke down the salary, education, daily tasks, and work environment for each in order to select one career they will use for their college research project. Homework: Complete the career comparison sheets, if not done in class. Discussion topics: After the side by side comparison, which career has the daily tasks you are most interested in?

Science: Worked on the review for the midterm, the review is due on Wednesday. Labs are due tomorrow and the midterm is on Thursday.

Geometry: 8.1 notes (interior angles of polygons), homework is the 8.1 worksheet


Course 3: Today we learned how to change an equation from standard form to slope-intercept form.  Homework-8 question worksheet. 5th hour took their quiz and then had a 12 question worksheet.

Technology 8 - Orlando What we did today: Today, students continued working on their individual education plans (EDPs) on the Career Cruising website.  Students took further interest and skills inventories to narrow down some professions that might suit them.  Students briefly investigated the careers and added to of them to their EDP that they will research further. Homework: No homework. Discussion topics: What careers found their way to the top of your list? Are these careers you expected? 

Humanities: Students received test grades, checked chapter 9 assessment and shared current events in class. No homework.

Pre-Algebra: We are working on functions this week.  Homework:  What is my rule? worksheet.
 
Algebra: We took the Systems of Equations quiz we were supposed to take on Friday.  I have attached the Problem Solving Workshop #7.  It is due on Thursday.

Spanish I: Finish the verb sheet, due tomorrow. Finish the neat copy of your dream schedule, due tomorrow.

Thursday, February 7

Geometry: Went over the midterm, chapter 7 test and kitchen geometry projects. We then completed an activity to discover how the number of sides of a convex polygon affect the sum of the angles and wrote a rule for polygon angle sum. No homework.

Science: Students had the option to work on their projects or work on the review for the midterm. Rough drafts for peer review are due tomorrow. In the event of a snow day on Friday, students should have someone use the attached checklist to review their paper as we will be missing peer review, final drafts will still be due on Tuesday, February 12. I've also attached the midterm review, which will be due on Wednesday. 

Spanish I "In case of snow day" study your vocabulary for the 2.2 quiz on Monday. Don't forget the 2.2 vocab packet is also due Monday.

ELA - Day 1 of our Realistic Fiction Reader's Workshop.  Students copied their Teaching Point with the Elements of Realistic Fiction into their Journals.  I then read about 10 pages to the students, explaining some of the more hard to understand points to them.  I encouraged the students to write down new characters as they arose and to start a "working" map of the Finches' street so they have a visual of the area Scout is describing.  They then continued to read on their own tonight's reading goes to page 27.  I am open at lunch for reading time and discussion on points students don't understand. IF we happen to have a snow day tomorrow, students are still responsible for their reading (and will have more time to do it :) the reading for Friday-Sunday is pages 28-78. Homework: TKM reading to page 27 - Journal entry #7. Have a great day!

Humanities: Students worked on chapter 9 assessments and current events in class. Homework is to finish chapter 9 assessment and current events for Friday.

Orlando - 8th Grade Technology: Students turned in their Six Word Memoirs.  We introduced the Career Cruising website and students logged in to begin creating their EDP.  Students will continue exploring the site and taking interest inventories tomorrow. Homework: No homework Discussion Topics: What did the preliminary results for the Career Cruising inventory tell you?

Course 3: Students took a quiz on lessons 11.1 - 11.4.  In and out boxes for homework. 5th hour-review for our quiz tomorrow.

Science: Worked on the rough draft of "How Efficient is My Ride?", rough drafts are due on Friday for peer review. Final drafts are due on Tuesday, February 12. Students were given a copy of the rubric today. We will begin reviewing for the midterm tomorrow. Midterm is Thursday, February 14. 

Geometry: Took the chapter 7 test.

Humanities: Students reviewed 9.2/9.3 and began to work on chapter 9 assessment in class. Chapter 9 assessment and current events are due Friday.

Spanish I: Make your real class schedule and your dream class schedule. Due tomorrow. Don't forget to study for the 2.2 quiz (part 2) on Monday.

ELA - students finished turning in the last of their Grammar packets....for now :) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was handed out, and introduced with the attached Power Point.  Students were given the schedule for this unit and the expectations.  homework - Journal entry #5, Finish up independent reading or start TKM

Course 3: 1st - 4th hour-We reviewed for our quiz tomorrow.  There is extra practice in their textbooks.  It is the end of chapter 11. 5th hour-We worked on lesson 11.2.  Homework is worksheet 11.2 all.  Quiz is Friday.


Pre-Algebra We started our unit on Linear Equations.  No homework.

Algebra: Problem Solving day.  In class we worked on problem solving with systems of equations.  Any problems that were not finished are homework.

Science: Worked on conclusion and critique/reflection for "How Efficient is My Ride?" lab. Students should now be able to work on their rough drafts. Tomorrow will be the last in class work day. Rough drafts for peer review are due on Friday, February 8. Final drafts are due on Tuesday, February 12. We will also begin reviewing for our midterm this week. The midterm is on Thursday, February 14.

Geometry: Went over the practice test and began working on the chapter review. Homework is Chapter 7 review, odds. Chapter 7 test is tomorrow. 


Pre-Algebra: We worked on Extreme Problem Solving today.  We are emphasizing reading the problem carefully, developing a plan, and utilize a variety of strategies.  There is no homework tonight, but test corrections are due Wednesday!!!

Algebra: We continued our discussion of the process of elimination to solve systems.  Homework: Worksheet.


Spanish I: Time telling worksheet is due tomorrow.

Technology (Orlando):  What we did today: Students were introduced to the Six Word Memoir project.  We discussed the rubric and looked at some examples before beginning our own brainstorm.  The final project, presented on a power point slide, is due at the end of class Thursday. Homework: Think about a way to edit or revise your current idea to make it a clearer message. Discussion Topics: Discuss the process of summing up your life in six words.  Did the ideas come quickly to you?  If not, what do you think was your road block?

Today in Technology the Berkley high school counselors visited to discuss the importance of developing good work habits and ways to be successful in high school as well as some information college applications. Mrs. Weiss took this opportunity to share with students the academic and behavior expectations required for participation in events such as Cedar Point and the 8th grade dance. The 8th grade privileges letter needs to be signed by students and parents and returned to Mrs. Weiss by Friday. 

Science: Worked on graphs and data analysis of the "How Efficient is my ride?" lab, if not completed in class it is homework. We will continue working on the lab tomorrow and Wednesday. Rough drafts of the lab are due on Friday for peer review. Final drafts are due on Tuesday, February 12. 

Geometry: Went over the Law of Sines and Cosines homework and worked on the chapter 7 practice test. 

Pre-Algebra: We needed to take the second math quarterly today.  No homework.

Algebra: We started our third method of solving systems...elimination.  Homework:  lesson 7.3B (13-25 odd, and #26)  We will be having a quiz over all three methods on Friday.



Spanish I: Vocab packet 2.2 (part 2) is due on Monday, Feb 11th. Study for quiz 2.2 (part 2) on Monday, Feb 11th.

Humanities: Students reviewed 9.1 and were introduced to 9.2 in class. Homework is to complete 9.2 guided reading. Current events are due Friday.


Course 3: We finished the quarterly assessment.  Homework is a worksheet with 8 graphs on it.


ELA - Students turned in their Grammar 3.5 & 3.6 and were given about 15-20 minutes to read as we are starting To Kill a Mockingbird this week and I want the students to have time to finish any independent reading they are doing right now. Students continued their Pronoun study with 3.7 Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement and 3.8 Indefinite Pronoun Agreement.  This is due tomorrow and will be graded for accuracy. Homework: Grammar 3.7-3.8, Journal Entry #3, READ!

Geometry: Went over the 7.7 homework and took notes on Law of Sines and Cosines. Homework is pg. 491 #1-7. Chapter 7 test will be on Wednesday, February 6.

Science: Collected data with our roller coasters for the "How Efficient is My Ride?" lab. Students need to complete research, methods and the data table for homework . We will be making graphs on Monday as well as writing the data analysis. On Tuesday we will work on writing the conclusions and critique/reflection. Rough drafts for peer review will be due on Friday, February 8. Final drafts will be due Tuesday, February 12. Midterm is Thursday, February 14.

Course 3: Students took their quarterly assessment.  No homework.


Spanish I: Quiz on Monday, on the words on the 2.2 vocab packet that is due Monday. Sentences with verbs on pg 143 are due on Monday. The comic strip is due on Monday.

ELA - Students read silently and handed in Grammar 3.3-3.4.  We worked together on Grammar 3.5 Reflexive and Intensive Pronouns and 3.6 Interrogative Pronouns.  They should have had enough time to complete it by the end of the hour, but if not it is due by Monday. Have a great weekend and remember READ!!!
