Friday, December 18

Science: Student's investigated the relationship between force and distance using pulleys. No homework over break! Thanks to Marlee, Ian, Zachary, Kristen, Olivia, Hannah & Brooke for presenting their "Is the Force With You?" lab at the principal's breakfast this morning.

Geometry: Finished the 6.3 notes. Most students completed the 6.3 worksheet in class, but if not it is homework. Background research for the kitchen geometry project must be done over break. See yesterday's post for more information.

Algebra: Students made a conjecture about the number of rubber bands it would take to drop a Barbie from the second floor stairwell. Then students had a chance to test their conjecture. During this time, students completed a cumulative review Pg. 484 #2-36, 44-50 even (do not graph 44-50). No homework for the Holidays!

Algebra 2: Students learned 6.4 and had a mini quiz on 6.1-6.3. No homework for the Holidays.

Course 3: Students used newspaper ads to plan what they are going to buy their family and friends for the Holidays on a budget of $250. Students had to make sure to include their immediate family and friends and seek out the best deals from the circulars. No homework for the break!

Pre Algebra: Students checked 4.4 Homework from last night and learned 4.5. No homework for the break.

Social Studies: Students took "Big Ideas" quiz and discussed the seven principles of the constitution (pp. 226-231). If you were absent and would like to complete the quiz, please tell me three facts (for each) related to the Articles of Confederation, Constitution and Bill of Rights. The only homework during break is to be happy and healthy.

LA - Students checked their grammar homework from Ch 7 in the "Pigman." We played MadLibs, where I assign tables a part of speech and then we insert their words into the story. Students do not know the topic of the story ahead of time. We then read the story as a class and usually they end up with some pretty funny stories. There is no homework over the break.

Journalism - Students worked on their news articles. The finishing touches to the first edition are almost complete. HW - rough drafts of their second articles are due when we get back from break. They do not have to be typed. Happy Holidays!

Spanish 1: Today we played Spanish taboo in class for one last vocabulary review. The students do not have homework over break, however, remember the chapter test is going to be in the second half of the second week after break. If you have free time, or for those who want to raise their grades, the best thing to do would be to review vocabulary for ten minutes every day or so. Vocabulary is the foundation of a language; without it, no grammar is going to make sense!

Spanish 8: Kids worked on their Spain study; some are making posters about bullfighting, others are starting to make review questions about what we've studied. We will finish this unit the week we get back.

Career Tech - Continued work on "Family Budget" presentations will begin when we get back from break.

Integrated Tech - Roverbot due today. Continue work on LegoRobotics.

Science: Went over the energy packet. Students then worked on 2 more puzzle pages. If these are not completed in class they are homework.

Geometry: Finished the 6.2 notes and began 6.3 (similar polygons). The kitchen geometry project was introduced and 6.2 worksheet is homework.

Algebra: No homework. We presented our about me posters.

Algebra 2: No homework.

Pre Algebra: No homework. Students did 4.4 Assignment in class (from assignment sheet).

Course 3: No homework. We went over the Chapter 5 Test. Austin- We did a recipe problem solving sheet. No homework.

Social Studies: Students reviewed the "Big Ideas" (Westward migration, Articles of Confederation, Constitution, Federalists, Anti federalists and Bill of Rights) for the week in preparation for a mini-quiz on Friday. Homework is to study these terms from chapter 8 in preparation for the quiz. If you are absent, I will post the three terms that I will expect you to define on tomorrow's blog. Please email me your responses.

Language Arts: Students finished taking notes on the literary elements. We read Ch 7 - in "The Pigman" and students were given the vocabulary words to define and write a sentence. The following words for Ch 7 are: voluptuous, perpetual, erosion, corpse, prosecute, putrid. HW - finish definitions and sentences.

Journalism - Students worked on their articles. HW - articles.

Spanish 1: We took a quiz on p. 121 and worked on variations of sentences. The chapter test will be the second week after break. No homework over break other than...STUDY YOUR VOCABULARY! :)

Spanish 8: The students are investigating various aspects of Spanish life and culture. No homework.

Science: Students got their tests back and we went over them in class. Students should keep these tests for the midterm in January. We continued to work on the "Energy" packet.

Geometry: Began the 6.2 notes (Scale factors), students need to finish the notes for homework.

Algebra: No homework

Pre Algebra: Students learned 4.4. No homework.

Course 3: Baker- Students took Chapter 5 Test. Austin- No homework. We worked on holiday projects.

Algebra 2: We checked 6.3 W.S. No homework.

Language Arts - Students continued to take notes on literary terms. Any student who was absent will have an opportunity to view the notes I have provided in class. They will not be on the blog. HW - none.

Journalism - We went to the innovation lab to start new articles or wrap up the old ones.

Social Studies: Students shared current events and reviewed 8.2/8.3. No homework for tonight. "Big Ideas" mini-quiz on Friday. If you are absent, you can look on line and email me your understanding of the "Big Ideas" posted Friday morning.

Career Tech - Family Budget project is at the Create Stage. Students will begin to present (as ready) on January 5th.

Integrated Tech - Lego Robotics is going well, each week students are to turn in a team log to show what they worked on and how each member is working. A few students have opted to use this time to work on other class work, they will rejoin their team when it is appropriate.

Spanish 1: Vocab test over p. 121 tomorrow.

Spanish 8: We continued to learn about Spain. No homework.

Science: Today we watched Bill Nye "Energy". 2nd & 3rd hour need to complete "Forms of energy" from the packet. 4th, 5th & 7th hours must complete the whole packet for tomorrow.

Geometry: Went over the 6.1 notes (ratios, proportions & geometric mean). 6.1 worksheet is homework.

Algebra: Took Chapter 4 Test. No homework.

Algebra 2: 6.3 Homework.

Pre Algebra: 4.3 W.S. ODDS for homework. Please see attached and do Pg. 47 ONLY.

Course 3: Chapter 5 Test tomorrow. Austin- We finished notes on lesson 5.8. Homework is worksheet 5.8 all. Students had 20 minutes to work on it in class.

Social Studies: Students worked on 8.2/8.3 review in class (see attached from 12-14-09). Big ideas for the day:1. Federalists-pro constitution. 2. Antifederalists-against constitution-national gvt. too strong, no protection for people. 3. Bill of Rights-first 10 Amendments-protects peoples rights. Current events and review are due Wednesday, December 16, 2009.

LA - Students took notes on the literary elements of a story. We will continue with the notes on Wednesday. There will be a test when we return after break, test date TBD. HW - none.

Journalism - Assigning new news features and discussing topics. We are working to get PageMaker so we can put our first installment of "The Hawks Nest" out to the school. Sorry for the delay. HW - none.

Spanish 1: We are practicing the vocabulary for unit 2, chapter 1 for the quiz on Thursday. We also worked on -ar verb conjugations and applying them in sentences. Homework for tomorrow: use the answers I supplied to fix your answers to the oral questions that you wrote down for today. They are for the chapter test which will be given after break.

Spanish 8: The students read an article about Spanish proverbs (refranes) yesterday. They were asked to memorize one of them for today. They will be making small posters to illustrate the meaning of the refrán which will be due tomorrow.

Algebra 2:

Social Studies:
Students reviewed 8.2 & 8.3 in class. "Big Ideas" for the day: 1) Westward migration after the revolution. 2) Articles of Confederation failed. 3) Constitution equals compromise! There is no homework due tomorrow, but students can begin to work on notes for 8.2 & 8.3 that we will do in class tomorrow. Current events are due Wednesday.

LA - Students finished and discussed Ch 5-6 worksheets. I collected their homework (the worksheets and the vocabulary).Students took a quiz on Ch5-6. HW - none

Journalism - We discussed new topics for the next edition. HW - none.

Career Tech - Family Budget is in full swing. The Design stage of the Design Cycle is Due Tuesday, Dec 15th.

Integrated Tech - "Roverbot" is due from all teams by Friday Dec. 18th.

Spanish 1: There is a p. 121 vocabulary quiz on Thursday. For tomorrow, please finish the oral questions (section A) from the guía de estudiar for the chapter.

Science: 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th hours took their test. 2nd & 3rd hour will have their test Monday due to the World Music Assembly this morning. 2nd & 4th hour lab re-do's are due Monday. All other labs will be passed back on Monday and re-do's will be due by Thursday. Have a great weekend!

Geometry: Went over practice test. Chapter 5 review odds is homework. Chapter 5 test on Monday.

Algebra: Today we played equations of attack. Please see attached sheet (sheet 1, sheet 2). Students have Chapter 4 Test Pg. 275 Due on Monday. Chapter 4 test on Tuesday, December 15th.

Algebra 2: Challenge Practice due on Monday

Course 3: Cumulative review due on Monday. Chapter test on Wednesday, December 16th.

Pre Algebra: Today we went over the Chapter 3 Test. Students who want to retake must come for a review session Monday at lunch and retake the test on Tuesday.

LA - We discussed and reviewed Ch 5 and 6 in the "Pigman". We also went over the quiz from Ch 1-4. Students checked their vocabulary homework for the quiz on Monday, Pigman 5,6. I returned their possessive nouns quiz and reviewed their mistakes. HW - study for the "Pigman" quiz.

Journalism - Students listened to a speaker discuss graphics/editing and layouts. Homework was collected - Best Schools in Michigan assignment All rough drafts should be in the news feature folder for credit. HW - none.

Spanish 1: The students played Spanish tabú today to drill vocabulary. the 2-1 guía de estudiar is due Monday. There will be a vocabulary test on Thursday, December 17.

Spanish 8: Students turned in their posters about Spanish entertainers and athletes today and made a map of the country to display. No homework.

Science: Today we went over the review in preparation for tomorrow's test. 2nd & 4th hours labs have been returned and their lab re-do's are due on Monday, December 14.

Geometry: Practice test. Chapter 5 test is Monday.

Algebra: Students checked 4.7 and we took a timed test. Afterward, I explained the Equations of Attack activity that they will do tomorrow. Chapter 4 Test is on Tuesday, December 14th. Students must do Chapter Test 4 in book for practice (ALL problems). No homework tomorrow (Friday) except for studying over the weekend.

Algebra 2: Today we finished our discussion on 6.2. Students have 6.2 homework.

Pre Algebra: Students must do 4.1 and 4.2 homework tonight. They will have ½ the class period tomorrow to work. This homework is due on Monday. Please see attached assignment sheet.

Course 3: Baker-Today students presented their recipe posters. Afterward, those who chose to do extra credit shared their recipes with the class. No homework. Chapter 5 Test on Wednesday, December 16th. Austin- We went over homework and finished notes on 5.6, adding and subtracting decimals. We did more practice in class. No homework.

LA - Catch up day. Students read the Pigman through ch 6 on their own. They had to define and write a sentence for the following vocabulary words. Ch 5- demented, patron, subsidize, disdain. Ch 6 - terminal, omens, antagonistic, nocturnal, secrete, primate. Students also had to answer the following questions: How has being John's friend seemed to help Lorraine? How might it have harmed her? What would you advise Lorraine if she asked if she should become further involved with John? Give reasons for your advice. There will be a quiz on the "Pigman" Ch5 -6 Mon. Dec 14th. HW - definitions and comprehension questions.

Journalism - working on news features. Discussing "Best Schools in Michigan" homework. HW - none.

Science: Today we did the jeopardy review in class. Monday's review questions are due tomorrow. Unit 2 test is Friday.

Algebra: Today we did 4.7. Homework: Pg. 265 # 1, 2, 4-40 every other even. Students have Chapter 4 Test on December 15th.

Algebra 2: Today we did 6.2. Students have 6.2 Homework as listed on assignment sheet. See Monday's blog for assignment sheet.

Course 3: Baker- Today we did Chapter 5.7. Students have 5.7 W.S. for homework, ODDS. Recipe project is due TOMORROW, Thursday. Extra credit is due as well. Austin- We started notes on lesson 5.6. Homework - worksheet 5.6, #1-12.

Pre Algebra: Students took Chapter 3 Test. No homework.

Social S
tudies: -Students shared current events and worked on guided notes for 8.1 (see attached). Homework folders were returned (please check family access for grade). 8.1 notes are due tomorrow.

LA - students took the possessive nouns quiz. We read Ch 5 in the "Pigman" and they started on the vocabulary for Ch5 as well (demented, patron, subsidize, disdain). Definition and a sentence.
I also collected their grammar packet for a homework grade.

Journalism - Working on writing their media story. Finishing touches on their news articles. HW - to report on the "Best Schools in Michigan" special that is on tonight on ABC from 8-830p. Pick out something that is interesting to you and write a news feature on it.

Spanish 1: The 1-3 test retake will be at lunch either on Thursday or Friday. For tomorrow, do 112#12 as directed then recopy questinos 1-5 once more.

Spanish 8: The students took a test over bullfighting today. The poster about a famous Spaniard is due Friday.

Science: Today we continued working on the review that was begun yesterday. Please see Monday's post for details about this assignment. The review is due on Thursday. Students were also given a study guide for the unit 2 test, which is Friday.

Geometry: Today students took a quiz on 5.1-5.4. 5.6 notes are homework. Chapter 5 test on Monday, December 14.

Algebra: Today we went over Linear Regression (line of best fit) on the graphing calculator. See yesterday's post for information on the directions. Students have the Chapter 4 Test on Tuesday, December 15th.

Algebra 2: Today students started 6.1 and will not have homework if finished in class. See yesterday's post for the Chapter 6 homework log.

Course 3: Baker- Today we went over the Feeding Frenzy worksheet. Afterward, we learned 5.7 in class. Students have 5.7 homework, worksheet attached. Students must do ODDS.

Pre Algebra: Today we reviewed for the test on Wednesday.

Social Studies: Students shared notes from section 7.4 in class and then watched a video to introduce the formation of the national government. Students then worked on pp 4, 6, & 7 of the attached document. Homework folders were collected. Current events and constitution worksheets (see above) are due Wednesday.

LA - Students took the "Pigman" quiz ch1-4 and I collected the vocabulary homework. We corrected the possessive nouns grammar packet. I also collected the bio/autobio worksheets, there were 5 of them at 10 points each. We started Ch 5 of the "Pigman" novel. HW - study for the possessive nouns quiz tomorrow and the grammar packet will be collected as homework.

Journalism - Continue watching Internet media. Finish discussing the media/file sharing excerpt. Students will write a news feature on what they found most interesting in the video. HW - working on the news feature. Rewriting rough draft articles.

Spanish 1: Please do questions 1-5 of p. 110#8 for tomorrow and study your vocabulary.

Science: Today we worked on the unit 2 review. This assignment is due Thursday. Students must write complete sentences or make problem solving boxes for each question. There is a total of 34 questions. Pg. 54: Vocabulary (#1-11), Reviewing Concepts (#2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 14 & 18), Solving Problems (#2-7). Pg. 80: Vocabulary (#3 & 4), Reviewing Concepts (#2, 3, 4 & 7), Solving Problems (#2-4). Test is Friday.

Geometry: 5.5 notes in class, 5.5 worksheet for homework. 5.1-5.4 quiz tomorrow. Chapter 5 test Monday, December 14.

Algebra: Today we did an in class activity called "Barbie Bungee". Students gathered data and have the barbie bungee packet (please see Friday's blog post for the packet) to complete tomorrow in class. 4.6 is also due tomorrow. Please see attached sheet for directions on how to find the line of best fit (linear regression) on the graphing calculator.

Course 3: Baker- Students have quiz today. No homework. Austin- We started notes on lesson 5.5 (changing fractions to decimals and vice versa). Homework - worksheet 5.5, # 8-15, 20-23.

Pre Algebra: We are working to complete chapter 3. Students have 3.6 homework tonight. Chapter 3 test on Wednesday.

Algebra 2: Students had time to finish their Chapter 5 test today and afterward worked on taking notes on Chapter 6, Section 1. No homework. Please see attached Chapter 6 Homework log.

Social Studies: Students shared story boards assigned Friday as a review of 7.1-7.3. After discussing 7.4 in class, students were assigned notes for 7.4 (see attached). Notes and homework folders are due Tuesday. Current events are due Wednesday.

LA - Checked the "Pigman" vocabulary homework. Quiz on "The Pigman" vocabulary and Ch 1-4 - 12/8. Students learned about possessive nouns. The quiz is on Wednesday 12/9.
I will also be collecting the bio/autobiography worksheets tomorrow for a homework grade. HW - study for Pigman quiz. Possessive nouns packet should be completed as well as the bio worksheets.

Journalism - Students watched a video on how the internet is drastically changing the way media is covered and sent out to the masses. No homework.

Spanish 1: Please do the photocopy of p. 35 of the workbook and then copy activity 7 one more time, writing the full sentence as you pay attention to details. Also, LEARN YOUR VOCABULARY!

Spanish 8: Finish the fill-in-the-blank sheet about bullfighting. There will be a small quiz on Wednesday about bullfighting facts.

Science: Today we peer-reviewed the "Is the Force With you Lab". Labs are due on Monday, see post for Nov. 30 for rubric. Unit 2 test Friday, December 11.

Geometry: 5.4 worksheet is homework. 5.1-5.4 quiz on Tuesday, December 8.

Algebra: Today we finished 4.6 in class. Students have 4.6 Homework: Pg. 256 #1, 2, 4-10 even, 12-44 every other even. Students were also introduced to the Barbie Bungee activity (please see attached sheet). We are going to start this project on Monday. Students - as of right now, I do not have enough Barbies to complete this project. Please make sure you bring in your own dolls on Monday! Thanks!

Algebra 2: No homework. Took Chapter 5 Test.

Course 3: Baker Finished reviewing for quiz. Quiz on 5.1-5.5 moved to Monday! Austin- Students took a quiz on lessons 5.1 - 5.4. No homework.


Pre Algebra: Today we worked on moving from athrimatic to algebraic thought processes. Students worked in small groups to answer questions. No Homework.

Social Studies: Students shared notes on 7.2 and read 7.3 aloud in class. Homework for the weekend is to complete a six panel story board that details events from 7.1-7.3 in chronological order. Each panel must have a picture and caption explaining the illustration. Homework folders are due Tuesday.

LA - finished reading the "Pigman" through Ch. 4 - Students turned in their final papers. HW - define and write a sentence for the "Pigman" vocabulary words. Epic, excruciatingly, philanthropy, avocation, subliminally, prevarications, incandescent, compulsive, commemorative and paranoia.

Journalism - Speaker Al Taubman. I also collected their rough drafts. HW - none.

Science: Students worked on the "Is The Force With You?" rough draft. Please see Monday's post for the rubric. Peer review of rough drafts is tomorrow. Lab is due Monday, December 7. Unit 2 test Friday, December 11.

Geometry: 5.3 notes (angle bisectors in triangles). 5.3 worksheet is homework. 5.1-5.4 quiz on Tuesday, December 8.

Algebra: All classes but 1st hour have 4.6 homework tonight.

Algebra 2: Chapter 5 Test tomorrow.

Course 3: Baker-We reviewed for a quiz tomorrow on 5.1-5.6.

Pre Algebra: Today we started the class with Bert's Cell Phone Problem which allowed students to write and solve multi-step equations. Afterward, we reviewed for their quiz tomorrow on 3.1-3.5.

LA - students took the noun quiz and handed in the grammar packet for a homework grade.
We started reading "The Pigman" novel by Paul Zindel. HW- Final Drafts are due tomorrow. The paper should include cover page (my name, students name, hour, date and title of paper), 5 paragraph essay, bibliography, chart and rubric.

Journalism -revising and typing up news articles. Preparing for tomorrows guest speaker Al Taubman. HW - rough draft articles are due.

Humanities: -Students worked shared notes for 7.1 and worked on notes for 7.2 (see attached). 7.2 notes are due Friday and homework folders will be collected Tuesday.

Spanish 1: We spent today practicing speaking. First the students talked for a minute about the small drawing of the store. I noticed that not everyone took notes on the page in preparation. I want to reiterate that when a person thinks through something in a foreign language, it is a good thing to plan out some vocabulary and grammar, so the notes are an indication that the preparation was thorough.

The students will be playing Spanish taboo next week and to prepare each student must write 8 cards based on our vocabulary to date. The cards are due Monday. There will be a small quiz on Monday in which each student either writes or says from memory the small description they were asked to memorize for today.

Spanish 8: The students took a small memorization quiz today based on the sentences they were asked to memorize two days ago. Afterwards we finished the biography video of Antonio Banderas. Many students did not realize he is Spanish. He actually learned his lines for his role in the Mambo Kings phonetically since he did not speak English at the time of filming! We also looked at a list of famous Spanish actors and artists. Each student chose one who he/she will investigate and make a small poster about listing date of birth, where born, and what he/she is famous for. This is due Friday, December 11.

Science: Students worked on graphing their "Is the Force with you?" data. We will work on rough drafts in class tomorrow, but students should also be working on them at home. Rough draft for peer review is due Friday. Final lab is due Monday, December 7. Please see Monday's post for the rubric. Unit 2 Test Friday, December 11.

Geometry: 5.2 notes (perpendicular bisectors) in class, 5.2 worksheet is homework.

Algebra: 1st hour students learned 4.5 (Writing and Graphing Linear Equations in Slope Intercept form). All classes have 4.5 homework. Please see attached sheet. Students have a short quiz tomorrow on 4.1-4.5. Please see attached parents as partners sheet for Chapter 4.

Algebra 2: Students completed in class assignment today. Students have a chapter 5 test on Friday, Nov. 4th. Please see attached parents as partners sheet for Chapter5 .


Course 3: Baker- Students must do 5.6 W.S. ODDS. Please see attached homework sheet.
Austin- Students took a practice quiz on lessons 5.1 through 5.4. We also finished lesson 5.4. Most students finished the practice quiz. If not, it is homework. Homework-worksheet 5.4 # 11 - 19.

Pre Algebra: 3.5 Day 1 homework is due today. Students have the class period to finish 3.5 worksheet instead of homework from the log. Please see attached worksheet. Also attached is a 3.5 Study guide.

LA - Hours 1 and 2 peer edited their rough drafts. Hours 4,5,6 - started typing their final essays. Papers are due on 12/4. HW- Study for noun quiz which is tomorrow. Plural, singular, common and proper.


Journalism - Working on news features. Rough drafts are due 12/4. HW- working on articles.


Social Studies-Students shared current events and discussed the reading for 7.1. Homework is to answer the guiding questions (see attached) for 7.1.

Spanish 1: Prepare to talk for one minute about the drawing of the store from the handout and then memorize one of the descriptions from Lección 2 on the other side.

Spanish 8: Please be ready to write the sentences you were asked to memorize yesterday. Group 2, learn questions 1, 3, 4 and 5.

Monday, November 30

Science: Today we collected data for the "Is the Force With You?" lab. Groups who did not come prepared to collect data must come at lunch on Tuesday to collect data. We will spend the remainder of the week working on writing the rough draft of this lab. Rough drafts are due Friday. Research about Isaac Newton is homework. Please click for the lab planner and rubric.

Geometry: 5.1 notes in class, 5.1 worksheet for homework.

Algebra: Today we learned about slope, Ch. 4, Section 4. Students analyzed the rate of change of data as well as calculated the ratio of rise to run. Please see attached homework sheet for the rest of chapter 4. I am also looking for donations of old Barbies. If anyone would like to donate them permanently to my classroom, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

Algebra 2: Today we did 5.9 lesson. The homework is due on Wednesday. Please see attached homework sheet and Chapter 5 Test is on Friday.

Pre Algebra: Today we did lesson 3.5 Solving Inequalities by Multiplication and Division. Please see attached homework sheet.

Course 3: Baker- Students must turn in their mathematical puzzles today. Then we did lesson 5.5. Attached is lesson 5.5 Worksheet. Please do ODDS on page 1 only. Austin- We took notes on multiplying fractions. Homework-Worksheet 5.3, # 1 - 14.

Social Studies: Students shared notes on 6.4 and began to read 7.1 in class. For homework students should finish reading 7.1 and begin to work on current events for Wednesday.

LA - Daily journals are due and were collected today. I went over how to revise their essays which are due tomorrow 12/1. They must be typed. Final drafts are due 12/4. We also corrected the grammar homework and the quiz is Thursday Dec. 4th. (Nouns). HW- working on their papers

Journalism -
working on their news features. Students wrote letters to their 3rd and 4th hour teachers regarding missing class on Dec 4th for the in school field trip.

Spanish 1: For Wednesday the students must write and memorize a small paragraph about the contents of their school bag. They will share their paragraphs with their classmates.

Spanish 8: We are starting a unit about Spain. No home work.

Tuesday, November 24

Science: Today we finished planning the "Is the Force with You?" lab, students will begin collecting data Monday. We will be working on this lab all of next week with peer review on Friday and the lab due Monday, December 7. Unit 2 test will be Friday, December 11.

Geometry: Students took the chapter 4 test, 5.1 notes are homework.

Algebra: Students measured the height and length of the stair case at Norup. They determined that ratio of height to length of each of the stairs was constant the entire way up. No homework this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving!

Algebra 2: We finished 5.8 and students had a chance to work on the homework in class. Whatever was not finished is homework due on Monday, Nov. 30th.

Course 3: Baker- Students have 5.5 Homework tonight. Austin- We went over last nights homework. Students did coordinate graphing pictures. No homework.

Pre Algebra: Students checked 3.4 Day 1 and then did an activity. Afterward, we did 3.4 Day 2 which is homework if they do not finish it.

LA - Journal #18 - What are you thankful for? Why? We finished checking the Gerda Klein worksheet then students took a quiz based on the reading. Students worked on Nouns. HW - working on completing the daily journals and their essays. 11/30 - journals are due 90pts. 12/1 - rough draft due (typed). 12/4 - final draft due (typed)

Journalism - Worked on their news articles. HW - none.

Spanish 1: The class took the chapter 1-3 test today. There is no homework over Thanksgiving, but do start on the next chapter vocabulary if you have some time.

Spanish 8: No homework over break. We will be doing a unit on Spain after we come back.

8th Gr Career Tech - Family Budget project, created spreadsheet with formulas to record expenses and income. No homework over Thanksgiving, but students could research expenses.

8th Gr Integrated Tech - Finishing touches on WebQuest - LegoRobotics group is making progress on inventorBot. No Homework over Thanksgiving.

Science: Today we started planning the "Is The Force With You?" lab. Students will begin collecting data next Monday. Momentum worksheet is homework.

Geometry: Went over the practice test. Chapter 4 test tomorrow.

Course 3: Austin-We finished notes on lesson 5.2 (adding and subtracting with different denominators). Homework - worksheet 5.2 # 7 - 19.

LA - Journal #17 - What makes you laugh? Why? Do your best to explain what makes a person funny. We read Gerda Klein's autobiography and students worked on a worksheet dealing with Gerda. There will be a quiz on the reading tomorrow. HW - working on their daily journals and their essays. Journals are due 11/30. Rough draft papers due 12/1 typed. Final draft papers due 12/4 typed.

Journalism - Working on news articles. Discussion regarding the speaker that will be here on Dec.4th. HW - none

Social Studies: Students turned in "protest projects" on Monday. Students will participate in the preliminary rounds of the geography bee on Monday and Tuesday. Students will present "protest projects" on Wednesday. No homework-no current event. Have a happy Thanksgiving.

Science: Today we finished up the unit 2 notes, went over the Newton's 2nd Law homework and started brainstorming for the "Is the Force With You" lab.

Geometry: Went over chapter review, practice test is homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday.

Algebra: Students worked on graphing linear equations. Students have 4.2 Homework tonight.

Pre Algebra: Students must complete 3.3 Day 2 for homework

Course 3: Baker-Chapter 5, Sec. 3. Austin-We checked our homework from yesterday. We started notes on lesson 5.2 (adding and subtracting with different denominators). We started notes on lesson 5.2. Homework-worksheet 5.2, # 1-6.

Algebra 2: Finish Check Point 5.7 for homework.

Social Studies:-Students worked on "protest posters" in class today. The posters are due Monday. The preliminary rounds of the Geography Bee will be held in class Monday and Tuesday.

LA - no journal - Students finished watching the A&E biography on Jackie Robinson. For the rest of the hour students worked on their essays or their journals. HW - daily journals and essay.

Journalism - Students worked on their news features for the paper. Students made a comic stip about an event that had to do with Norup International. HW - working on their news articles.

Science: Finished collecting and analyzing data on flat and incline tracks using Newton's 2nd Law.

Geometry: 4.8 notes (transformation). Chapter 4 review for homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday.

Algebra: Students received their scores from the Ch. 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 Test. Any student that wants to retake the test must come in on Monday, Nov. 23 for a review session and then retake on Tuesday, Nov. 24th. Today we started 4.2 (skipped 4.1) and there was no homework. Students learned strategies how to solve linear equations on the graphing calculator.

Algebra 2:
Today students practiced the Rational Zero Theorem. Afterward, students learned Descartes' rule of signs. 5.7 is homework tonight.

Pre Algebra: Students finished presenting in-class projects. Then learned 3.3. 3.3 is homework tonight.

Course 3:
Today students learned 5.2 (Subtracting fractions). Students have 5.2 W.S. tonight for homework. Austin- We took notes on 5.1, adding fractions with common denominators. Homework- worksheet 5.1, # 1-8 all, 10 - 24 evens only.

Spanish 1: There was an oral quiz today and so far the kids are doing very nicely! Chapter 1-3 test Tuesday. The kids know the sections of the test.

Spanish 8: Project due tomorrow!


LA - Journal #16 - A popular show called “What not to Wear” on TLC needs a new “What not to do” theme, describe one idea and don’t forget to give the show a name. Students watched the A&E Biography on Jackie Robinson. HW- working on Journals and their papers.

Journalism - Working on their articles for the "Hawks Nest"

Social Studies- Mrs. Weiss presented in class today. Homework is to complete notes for 6.4 and to think of a subject and mode of presentation for our "protest" activity tomorrow.

Science: Today students practiced calculations with Newton's 2nd law. Anything not completed in class is homework.

Geometry: 4.7 Notes (isosceles & equilateral triangles). 4.7 worksheet is homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday, November 24.

Algebra: Took Chapter 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 test today. No homework

Course 3: Baker-No homework, reviewed fraction lab worksheet and 5.1 homework. NO homework. Austin- Students took a quiz on lesson 3.1 - 3.4.

Pre Algebra: Students presented their in-class projects and then we corrected 3.2 homework from last night. No homework.

Algebra 2: Students went over the rational zero theorem and have Checkpoint 5.2 for homework.

Language Arts: LA - Journal #15 - Write 3 very different beginnings for a story about a child who accidentally gets locked in the school building for a night. We went over Flaherty worksheet.
I handed out the four square organizer for the essays and students worked on their papers. Useful websites for the bibliography - www.easybib.com and www.bibme.com. Daily journals are due 11/30. 100 pts 20 entries Rough Draft of paper is due 12/1 (must be typed). Final Draft due 12/4 (again must be typed). HW - working on paper and journals.


Journalism -
Last chance to sign up for a news story or one will be assigned to the student.
Working on gathering information, and coming up with questions. HW - working on newspaper.


Social Studies: -Students shared current events, checked notes for 6.3 and worked in groups to collect notes on 6.4. The only homework is to finish notes if they were not completed in class.

Career Tech: Students were given their Career Cruising login and password. They all began their surveys to create their IEP. IEP including choices of Career Path, 2 jobs, as well as short and long term goals should be printed by Friday and signed by parent by Monday.

Integrated Tech: Writing Evaluate (rubric for their final product) for SS Webquest. Completed Webquest due by Monday 11/23

Science: Newton's 2nd law mini-lab: We practiced calculating force after collecting data with the cars on the tracks. Quiz corrections are homework. Directions for quiz corrections:
1) Separate piece of paper
2) Copy entire question
3) Write correct answer, not just the letter
4) Write at least 2 complete sentences explaining the SCIENCE or make a problem solving box.

Geometry: Took the 4.1-4.5 quiz. 4.6 worksheet is homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday, November 24.

Algebra: Students reviewed for Ch. 3.5-3.8, 6.5-6.6 Test tomorrow.

Algebra 2: Students completed 5.5 notes and did homework in class. Whatever was not finished needs to be finished at home.

Course 3: Baker-Students did an exploration on adding fractions. No homework tonight.

Pre Algebra: We worked on 3.2 in class. In class projects are due on Wednesday.

Spanish 1: Worksheets 3 and 4. Prepare for the oral quiz Thursday and the chapter test next Tuesday.

Science: Took the unit 2 quiz and got everyone caught up on notes through Newton's 3rd law.

Geometry: Triangle proof practice! 4.6 notes homework, 4.1-4.5 quiz tomorrow.

Algebra: Today we went over our groups of equations and inequalities. The Chapter 3.5-3.8, 6.5-6.6 TEST has been MOVED to Wednesday, Nov.18th.

Pre Algebra: Today students worked on finishing their projects in class. These projects are due Wednesday, Nov. 18th.

Algebra 2: Today students revisited log division and then applied their prior knowledge to long division of polynomials. Students have to fill in the note guide tonight for homework.

Course 3: Baker- Today students are doing a fraction exploration on 5.1. Homework is 5.1 worksheet, ODDS. Austin- Students reviewed for quiz on Wednesday. Quarterly assessment is Tuesday.

LA - Journal #13 - Create a super hero that the world needs. It must be original unlike any that you know. What powers does he/she have? What problem will this super hero solve? Students continued reading the Patrick Flaherty journal. HW - Students should be working on gathering research information for their essays.

Journalism - Preparation for the newspaper - discussion of newspaper titles, story ideas etc. HW - none

Career Tech - Started vocabulary for Career Cruising, "Who Am I" worksheet due tomorrow.

Science: Students made their note presentations to the class today. Quiz on Monday is open note and homework.

Geometry: Went over 4.5 notes (ASA & AAS), 4.5 worksheet is homework. Quiz has been moved to Tuesday.

Algebra: Worked on sorting, solving and reflecting upon: equations, inequalities and absolute value functions. Students have a test on 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 on Tuesday, Nov.17th.

Pre Algebra: Students are continuing to work on their in class project. Half of the class is working on a budget project with one and two step equations and the other half of the class is working on a budget problem involving a school play.

Algebra 2: Students reviewed 5.2 and now are working on 5.3. Students have 5.3 for homework.

Course 3: Baker- Students are taking "Quest" on 3.1-3.4. No homework. Austin Course 3-We went over homework 3.4. Students have a mega-quiz on Tuesday(3.1 - 3.4). A practice quiz was given today. Homework - finish practice quiz.

Social Studies: -Students worked in groups and shared facts on section 6.1. Homework is to complete 6.1 guided reading for Monday.

LA - Journal #12 - If you were to move tomorrow where would you go? Why? What might be some drawbacks? Students read aloud the journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty. HW - working on their essays.

Journalism - Write an obit on a famous person. Write an advice column (the problem and the advice). Like a Dear Abby column. HW - none.

Science: Went over acceleration homework. Students worked in groups on presenting notes to the class. Open note & homework quiz on Monday.

Geometry: Activity to prove SSS & stability of triangles!

Algebra: Students reviewed absolute value equations (6.5) and then learned about absolute value inequailities (6.6). Tonight's homework is 6.6 absolute value inequalities (6.6). Students will have a test on 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 on Tuesdsay, Nov.17th.

Algebra 2: Students took notes on 5.2 and 5.3 in class. They have quiz on 5.2 and 5.3 on Friday.

Pre Algebra: Students are working on 3.2 and have 3.2 homework tonight.

Course 3: Baker- Students have 5.1 homework tonight. Austin- We went over homework sheet 3.3. We took notes on lesson 3.4 (writing two-step equations). Homework - worksheet 3.4, all.

LA - Students continued to research their "most important person". There was not a journal assigned for today. HW - working on their persuasive essay.

Journalism - Students wrote their own obits. They peer edited their papers and then typed up the final draft which was due at the end of the hour. HW - None

Humanities: Finished KWL and guiding questions for our study of the Revolution in class. No homework.

Algebra: We went over 3.8 in class. Students learned 6.5 Solving Absolute Value Equations and have 6.5 Homework

Pre Algebra: Took Quarterly exam. NO homework

Course 3: Baker- Took Quarterly exam. No homework

Algebra 2: Students learned exponent properties and have 5.1 for homework.

LA - Journal #11 - Reflect on you 7th grade experience. Students starting researching their most important person. They were not allowed to get onto the computer until their chart was done. HW - finishing their journals and working on their papers.

Journalism - Reflecting on yesterdays speaker. (Kim Lifton) Student then were taught how to write and obituary. HW- Students had to write their own obits.

Humanities: Students took notes on the American Revolution in class. Homework is to think of three guiding questions that will serve as the basis of our investigation into this subject.

Algebra - Students finished their exploration of variable manipulation. Homework is 3.8 if not finished in class.

Course 3 - Baker- 3.4 W.S. and a Quest on Friday (3.1-3.4). Austin- We went over tests and homework (3.2). We took a homework quiz. No homework

Pre Algebra - 3.1 In class assignment that is due tomorrow.

Algebra 2 - Students took Ch. 4 Part II Exam. No homework.

LA - Journal #10 - Write about yesterday morning from the perspective of an everyday object or item. (example; shoes, alarm clock, bed). I handed out their research based persuasive essay assignment. Due date is TBD. The rubric and assignment are attached. HW: Make a comparison chart with the criteria. If this is not completed students will not be allowed to use the computers to do their research until this is done.

Journalism - Kim Lifton - Guest speaker who discussed her WOW writing workshop and her career as a journalist. HW - none

Humanities: Students continued to work on KWL for the American Revolution. Current events due Wednesday.

8th Gr Car Tech - Reviewed Bibliography basics - Easy Bib and without it. Internet Scavenger Hunt due Friday - With bibliography.

Geometry: 4.2 Notes (Triangle Congruence). 4.2 worksheet for homework. Unit 4 quiz Monday, November 15.

Algebra: 1st hour: No homework. 4th and 6th hour - 3.8 homework

Pre Algebra: Ch. 3.1 Homework

Course 3: Baker- 3.3 W.S. Odds. Austin - Took notes on lesson 3.2. Homework-ws 3.2 # 3-20.

Algebra 2: Ch. 4 Part II test is tomorrow.

Social Studies:
Students reviewed folders and quizzes in class today and then began a discussion on the American Revolution. No homework this evening. Current event due Wednesday.

LA - Journal #9 - What makes a person important? Students came up with criteria on what makes a person important. We then discussed the 3 important historical figures covered in class and used the criteria to prove out of those 3 who is the most important person. The information is first based on opinion and then they had to base facts on their opinion to prove or persuade that in fact that person is indeed important. This is all in preparation for their researched based persuasive essay. HW: thinking of a person that they think is most important to them in the last 100 years.

Journalism - I collected their "review" articles. (Sports, movie or restaurant). We finished our "lost at sea" team building lesson. Students came up with discussion questions to ask our guest speaker tomorrow.

Spanish 1: There is no written homework tonight, but please study vocabulary.

Spanish 8: Please do Worksheet #1 about la familia.

8th Grade Car Tech - New Marking Period, sending home practices and expectations for signature.

Science: Today we completed our investigation of how mass affects speed of a car. We compared this relationship on flat track and a downhill. There is no homework.

Geometry: Class had a 95% average on the chapter 3 test! They ROCK! Today in class we went over the 4.1 notes. The 4.1 worksheet is homework. For this section I have assigned a more challenging set of problems, students need to TRY every problem.

Algebra: Students took notes on solving percents. They have 3.7 homework tonight and it's due on Monday.

Algebra II: Today we reviewed for the test on Tuesday, Nov. 10th.

Course 3: Baker- We went over 3.1 Solving one step equations and started 3.2. Students have 3.2 homework from the worksheet today.

Pre Algebra: Students took Ch.2 Test.

LA - Journal#8 - Have you ever been disobedient? When? Why? Student took the Dolores Huerta quiz. We continued discussing, thesis statements, introductory paragraphs, transition sentences and wrap up within a paragraph. HW - none

Journalism - Students turned in their final Fairy Tale news feature. How to write a review.
HW - To write a review on a restaurant, movie or sporting event on which you either watched or attended over the weekend.

Humanities -Students took a quiz on chapter 5 and turned in homework folders. No homework.

Spanish 1: We finished the presentations for chapter 2 and will move on to chapter 3 next week. Get started learning and reviewing the vocabulary from p. 93.

Spanish 8: We finished presenting the conversations. No homework over the weekend.
