Science: Did our first jigsaw notetaking for this unit on pages 65-70.

Geometry: Went over yesterday's cumulative review and did some more practice problems. We also talked about how students should study for tomorrow's midterm. No homework other than studying!

Humanities: Students checked their quiz and discussed 7.2 guided notes in class today. Homework is to complete a current event for Friday. 7.3 guided reading is due Monday.

ELA - Students were given the entire hour to work on their Literary Essay.  Attached is the "example" I gave yesterday when we were going over final draft formatting.  By the end of the student's class hour the final draft packet should be turned in:

1. Rough Draft

2. Peer Editing Sheet from Day #11

3. Revisions - 2nd draft

4. Final Draft - typed and formatted properly

5. Rubric - with name and hour

Course 3: Today we started review for our Chapter 6 test on Tuesday.  We will review for two days.  This is a difficult unit.  Students need to practice a lot!!!!  Homework is the review sheet from class. 5th hour-Homework is worksheet 6.4, all.

Wednesday, January 9

Science: Investigation 3-B data collection and graphing. No homework.

Geometry: Worked on the cumulative test for chapters 1-6 as part of our review for Friday's midterm. 

Spanish I: Study for the 2.1 test on Monday.

ELA : We reviewed the proper procedures for using the COW.  We also reviewed the format for papers (Double spaced, 1 inch margins, Title and By line - 24-36 pt. font, Body - 12 pt. font ). I went over how to adjust these settings within Microsoft Word 2010.  Students then were given time to either complete their Rough Draft, finish their Rewrite/Revisions, start publishing their Final Draft. We will have the COW for publishing tomorrow and Friday.  Final Draft Packet is due Friday. Please remember- the 2nd Card-marking ends January 25th.  All AR quizzes need to be completed by Tuesday, January 22nd. Journals will be due January 23rd. Homework: Read - Journal #50

Humanities: Students took chapter 6 quiz and discussed 7.1 in class. Homework is to complete 7.2 guided notes. We will have a book check tomorrow.  Please come to class with YOUR book.

Course 3: Today we talked about circumference and diameter and radius. 1 - 4 homework is worksheet 6.4, all. 5th hour has a circumference worksheet.

Pre-Algebra: Fix incorrect problems from 5.3.  Quiz on Friday!

 

Algebra: Worked with finding the "best fit" line to a scatterplot.  Homework: 5.6 (1-7, 10,11)

Tuesday, January 8

Geometry: Went over the midterm review and discussed what students might want to include on their "cheat sheets". We will do more practice tomorrow, the midterm is Friday.

Science: Went over Energy Packets and collected data for Investigation 3B (Conservation of Energy). 

Pre-Algebra: We worked on adding and subtracting fractions with uncommon denominators.  Homework: worksheet 5.3 evens

Algebra: Problem Solving Workshop #5 was due today.  We collected data today to work on Best Fit Line to scatterplots.  No homework tonight!

Humanities: Students checked 7.1, finished a video, and discussed early battles of the American Revolution in class. Please note that students received grade updates in class today.  All grades are available on Family Access.  Homework is to study for a "pop" quiz tomorrow.  The expectation is as follows: "Briefly explain five causes of the American Revolution.  Of the five, which do you believe to be the most important and why?". Note from Mrs. Petersen: Use a mnemonic device to help remember 5 causes of the revolution!

ELA - Students went through a two step Peer Review Process (Click here for the rainbow editing form and the peer editing form).  Those that did not have their Rough Draft done worked on it in the hall and came in during lunch if they needed the extra time to complete the assignment. Homework: Rewrite and Revise for 2nd draft of Literary Essay.  Journal Entry #49

Course 3: We worked on multi-step equations with decimals and fractions.  This is very difficult.  Students need to practice at home.  5th hour has worksheet 6.3, # 1 - 14, decimals to do.  1st through 4th hour-no homework.

Monday, January 7

Science: Watched "The Eyes of Nye: Nucelear Energy" and went over energy packets. No homework.

Geometry: Worked on midterm "cheat sheets" that can be used on the test. We will go over the review tomorrow. Midterm is Friday, January 11.

Pre-Algebra: We worked on section 5.2 today (adding and subtraction fractions).  Homework: 5. worksheet (evens).  We are looking at having a quiz this Friday covering sections 5.1-5.3.

 

Algebra: Reminder that PSW #5 is due tomorrow.  We had some time in class to work on it and we continued our work with finding equations of lines parallel or perpendicular to each other.  Homework:  PSW #5 and Worksheet 3.6 (which is really section 5.5). Upcoming important dates:

   1/23-1/24    Midterm Exam

Spanish I: Ex 15, pg 113. Due tomorrow. Study for the unit test on 2.1 on Monday, Jan 18th.

Humanities: Students checked 6.4, were introduced to chapter 7, turned in homework folders, and watched a video on the American Revolution in class. Homework is to complete 7.1 section assessment. Current events are due Friday.

ELA - Students were guided in the writing of their Conclusion Paragraph for their Literary Essay. Students were given time to finish up their Rough Draft and insert their Conclusion in preparation for tomorrow's Peer Editing.  Rough Drafts should be finished and ready to go at the beginning of class to benefit from the Peer Editing time in class. We discussed the schedule for the rest of the week, with the final paper turned in on Friday along with evidence of the usage of the Design Cycle.

Friday, December 21- Happy Solstice!

Science: Tests were returned and we did a pre-test to see what we know about Energy and answered some questions about energy to analyze misconceptions. Students may turn in their lab corrections after break if they want.

Geometry: Took the chapter 6 test, work on the kitchen geometry project measurements over break.

Humanities: Students shared current events and concluded a video/discussion on the interpretive nature of the Boston Massacre. No homework. Have a wonderful break!

Spanish I: Study for the vocab quiz on 2.1 (part 2) on Friday, January 4th, Ex 7,8,& 9 on pgs 109-110 due Thursday, January 3rd

ELA - Students went through all the work that they had done thus far in Writer's Workshop and decided on the most relevant evidence to support their claim.  We discussed Organizational Structures of Essays, the students decided which structure they would use for their essay and explained why this was the best way to organize their argument. This was all written down on an exit slip that was turned in at the end of class.  If you were absent print out the directions for Day 8 and be sure you have your "Exit Slip" with you on Thursday when we return, it is an important organizational tool. Homework....the only homework you could have is if you have not kept up on your Writer's Journal entries, you should have a total of 43 entries when we return.

Course 3: Students took a short quiz on lessons 6.1 and 6.2.  No homework.

Thursday, December 20

Science: Labs were returned and students had the opportunity to do lab corrections in class. Tests will be returned tomorrow. No homework, unless students wanted to do more lab corrections, but they must be turned in tomorrow!

Geometry: Checked over the practice test, homework is the chapter 6 review odds. Test is tomorrow!

Spanish I: Study for the vocab quiz on 2.1 (part 2) on Friday, January 4th

Humanities: Students reviewed 6.2 time line and watched a video on the Boston Massacre. No homework.

ELA - Students continued their Writer's Workshop with an hour for writing an Connected Example paragraph (two pieces of evidence from their short story connected to prove their claim).  If this paragraph was not finished in class it is homework. Homework: Finish WW Connected Example Paragraph, READ, Journal entry #42
