What We Did Today:
We started Chapter 16, the Civil War. We discussed the time-line at the beginning of the chapter. Students read section 1 and had a free choice for their assignment.
Section 1 Main Ideas
1. Following the outbreak of war at Fort Sumter, Americans chose sides.
2. The Union and the Confederacy prepared for war.
Homework:

Stein - Math 8 Plus - 5.1.17
What We Did Today:
Students completed Problem 1.3: "Sliding Around: Translations." Students discovered properties of translational symmetry and used these generalizations to construct their own translation. Notes and vocabulary are available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/math-8-plus-blog.
Focus Question:
What does it mean to say that a figure has slide or translational symmetry? How is each point related to its image under transformation by translation?
