Monday, November 30

Science: Today we collected data for the "Is the Force With You?" lab. Groups who did not come prepared to collect data must come at lunch on Tuesday to collect data. We will spend the remainder of the week working on writing the rough draft of this lab. Rough drafts are due Friday. Research about Isaac Newton is homework. Please click for the lab planner and rubric.

Geometry: 5.1 notes in class, 5.1 worksheet for homework.

Algebra: Today we learned about slope, Ch. 4, Section 4. Students analyzed the rate of change of data as well as calculated the ratio of rise to run. Please see attached homework sheet for the rest of chapter 4. I am also looking for donations of old Barbies. If anyone would like to donate them permanently to my classroom, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

Algebra 2: Today we did 5.9 lesson. The homework is due on Wednesday. Please see attached homework sheet and Chapter 5 Test is on Friday.

Pre Algebra: Today we did lesson 3.5 Solving Inequalities by Multiplication and Division. Please see attached homework sheet.

Course 3: Baker- Students must turn in their mathematical puzzles today. Then we did lesson 5.5. Attached is lesson 5.5 Worksheet. Please do ODDS on page 1 only. Austin- We took notes on multiplying fractions. Homework-Worksheet 5.3, # 1 - 14.

Social Studies: Students shared notes on 6.4 and began to read 7.1 in class. For homework students should finish reading 7.1 and begin to work on current events for Wednesday.

LA - Daily journals are due and were collected today. I went over how to revise their essays which are due tomorrow 12/1. They must be typed. Final drafts are due 12/4. We also corrected the grammar homework and the quiz is Thursday Dec. 4th. (Nouns). HW- working on their papers

Journalism -
working on their news features. Students wrote letters to their 3rd and 4th hour teachers regarding missing class on Dec 4th for the in school field trip.

Spanish 1: For Wednesday the students must write and memorize a small paragraph about the contents of their school bag. They will share their paragraphs with their classmates.

Spanish 8: We are starting a unit about Spain. No home work.

Tuesday, November 24

Science: Today we finished planning the "Is the Force with You?" lab, students will begin collecting data Monday. We will be working on this lab all of next week with peer review on Friday and the lab due Monday, December 7. Unit 2 test will be Friday, December 11.

Geometry: Students took the chapter 4 test, 5.1 notes are homework.

Algebra: Students measured the height and length of the stair case at Norup. They determined that ratio of height to length of each of the stairs was constant the entire way up. No homework this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving!

Algebra 2: We finished 5.8 and students had a chance to work on the homework in class. Whatever was not finished is homework due on Monday, Nov. 30th.

Course 3: Baker- Students have 5.5 Homework tonight. Austin- We went over last nights homework. Students did coordinate graphing pictures. No homework.

Pre Algebra: Students checked 3.4 Day 1 and then did an activity. Afterward, we did 3.4 Day 2 which is homework if they do not finish it.

LA - Journal #18 - What are you thankful for? Why? We finished checking the Gerda Klein worksheet then students took a quiz based on the reading. Students worked on Nouns. HW - working on completing the daily journals and their essays. 11/30 - journals are due 90pts. 12/1 - rough draft due (typed). 12/4 - final draft due (typed)

Journalism - Worked on their news articles. HW - none.

Spanish 1: The class took the chapter 1-3 test today. There is no homework over Thanksgiving, but do start on the next chapter vocabulary if you have some time.

Spanish 8: No homework over break. We will be doing a unit on Spain after we come back.

8th Gr Career Tech - Family Budget project, created spreadsheet with formulas to record expenses and income. No homework over Thanksgiving, but students could research expenses.

8th Gr Integrated Tech - Finishing touches on WebQuest - LegoRobotics group is making progress on inventorBot. No Homework over Thanksgiving.

Science: Today we started planning the "Is The Force With You?" lab. Students will begin collecting data next Monday. Momentum worksheet is homework.

Geometry: Went over the practice test. Chapter 4 test tomorrow.

Course 3: Austin-We finished notes on lesson 5.2 (adding and subtracting with different denominators). Homework - worksheet 5.2 # 7 - 19.

LA - Journal #17 - What makes you laugh? Why? Do your best to explain what makes a person funny. We read Gerda Klein's autobiography and students worked on a worksheet dealing with Gerda. There will be a quiz on the reading tomorrow. HW - working on their daily journals and their essays. Journals are due 11/30. Rough draft papers due 12/1 typed. Final draft papers due 12/4 typed.

Journalism - Working on news articles. Discussion regarding the speaker that will be here on Dec.4th. HW - none

Social Studies: Students turned in "protest projects" on Monday. Students will participate in the preliminary rounds of the geography bee on Monday and Tuesday. Students will present "protest projects" on Wednesday. No homework-no current event. Have a happy Thanksgiving.

Science: Today we finished up the unit 2 notes, went over the Newton's 2nd Law homework and started brainstorming for the "Is the Force With You" lab.

Geometry: Went over chapter review, practice test is homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday.

Algebra: Students worked on graphing linear equations. Students have 4.2 Homework tonight.

Pre Algebra: Students must complete 3.3 Day 2 for homework

Course 3: Baker-Chapter 5, Sec. 3. Austin-We checked our homework from yesterday. We started notes on lesson 5.2 (adding and subtracting with different denominators). We started notes on lesson 5.2. Homework-worksheet 5.2, # 1-6.

Algebra 2: Finish Check Point 5.7 for homework.

Social Studies:-Students worked on "protest posters" in class today. The posters are due Monday. The preliminary rounds of the Geography Bee will be held in class Monday and Tuesday.

LA - no journal - Students finished watching the A&E biography on Jackie Robinson. For the rest of the hour students worked on their essays or their journals. HW - daily journals and essay.

Journalism - Students worked on their news features for the paper. Students made a comic stip about an event that had to do with Norup International. HW - working on their news articles.

Science: Finished collecting and analyzing data on flat and incline tracks using Newton's 2nd Law.

Geometry: 4.8 notes (transformation). Chapter 4 review for homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday.

Algebra: Students received their scores from the Ch. 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 Test. Any student that wants to retake the test must come in on Monday, Nov. 23 for a review session and then retake on Tuesday, Nov. 24th. Today we started 4.2 (skipped 4.1) and there was no homework. Students learned strategies how to solve linear equations on the graphing calculator.

Algebra 2:
Today students practiced the Rational Zero Theorem. Afterward, students learned Descartes' rule of signs. 5.7 is homework tonight.

Pre Algebra: Students finished presenting in-class projects. Then learned 3.3. 3.3 is homework tonight.

Course 3:
Today students learned 5.2 (Subtracting fractions). Students have 5.2 W.S. tonight for homework. Austin- We took notes on 5.1, adding fractions with common denominators. Homework- worksheet 5.1, # 1-8 all, 10 - 24 evens only.

Spanish 1: There was an oral quiz today and so far the kids are doing very nicely! Chapter 1-3 test Tuesday. The kids know the sections of the test.

Spanish 8: Project due tomorrow!


LA - Journal #16 - A popular show called “What not to Wear” on TLC needs a new “What not to do” theme, describe one idea and don’t forget to give the show a name. Students watched the A&E Biography on Jackie Robinson. HW- working on Journals and their papers.

Journalism - Working on their articles for the "Hawks Nest"

Social Studies- Mrs. Weiss presented in class today. Homework is to complete notes for 6.4 and to think of a subject and mode of presentation for our "protest" activity tomorrow.

Science: Today students practiced calculations with Newton's 2nd law. Anything not completed in class is homework.

Geometry: 4.7 Notes (isosceles & equilateral triangles). 4.7 worksheet is homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday, November 24.

Algebra: Took Chapter 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 test today. No homework

Course 3: Baker-No homework, reviewed fraction lab worksheet and 5.1 homework. NO homework. Austin- Students took a quiz on lesson 3.1 - 3.4.

Pre Algebra: Students presented their in-class projects and then we corrected 3.2 homework from last night. No homework.

Algebra 2: Students went over the rational zero theorem and have Checkpoint 5.2 for homework.

Language Arts: LA - Journal #15 - Write 3 very different beginnings for a story about a child who accidentally gets locked in the school building for a night. We went over Flaherty worksheet.
I handed out the four square organizer for the essays and students worked on their papers. Useful websites for the bibliography - www.easybib.com and www.bibme.com. Daily journals are due 11/30. 100 pts 20 entries Rough Draft of paper is due 12/1 (must be typed). Final Draft due 12/4 (again must be typed). HW - working on paper and journals.


Journalism -
Last chance to sign up for a news story or one will be assigned to the student.
Working on gathering information, and coming up with questions. HW - working on newspaper.


Social Studies: -Students shared current events, checked notes for 6.3 and worked in groups to collect notes on 6.4. The only homework is to finish notes if they were not completed in class.

Career Tech: Students were given their Career Cruising login and password. They all began their surveys to create their IEP. IEP including choices of Career Path, 2 jobs, as well as short and long term goals should be printed by Friday and signed by parent by Monday.

Integrated Tech: Writing Evaluate (rubric for their final product) for SS Webquest. Completed Webquest due by Monday 11/23

Science: Newton's 2nd law mini-lab: We practiced calculating force after collecting data with the cars on the tracks. Quiz corrections are homework. Directions for quiz corrections:
1) Separate piece of paper
2) Copy entire question
3) Write correct answer, not just the letter
4) Write at least 2 complete sentences explaining the SCIENCE or make a problem solving box.

Geometry: Took the 4.1-4.5 quiz. 4.6 worksheet is homework. Chapter 4 test Tuesday, November 24.

Algebra: Students reviewed for Ch. 3.5-3.8, 6.5-6.6 Test tomorrow.

Algebra 2: Students completed 5.5 notes and did homework in class. Whatever was not finished needs to be finished at home.

Course 3: Baker-Students did an exploration on adding fractions. No homework tonight.

Pre Algebra: We worked on 3.2 in class. In class projects are due on Wednesday.

Spanish 1: Worksheets 3 and 4. Prepare for the oral quiz Thursday and the chapter test next Tuesday.

Science: Took the unit 2 quiz and got everyone caught up on notes through Newton's 3rd law.

Geometry: Triangle proof practice! 4.6 notes homework, 4.1-4.5 quiz tomorrow.

Algebra: Today we went over our groups of equations and inequalities. The Chapter 3.5-3.8, 6.5-6.6 TEST has been MOVED to Wednesday, Nov.18th.

Pre Algebra: Today students worked on finishing their projects in class. These projects are due Wednesday, Nov. 18th.

Algebra 2: Today students revisited log division and then applied their prior knowledge to long division of polynomials. Students have to fill in the note guide tonight for homework.

Course 3: Baker- Today students are doing a fraction exploration on 5.1. Homework is 5.1 worksheet, ODDS. Austin- Students reviewed for quiz on Wednesday. Quarterly assessment is Tuesday.

LA - Journal #13 - Create a super hero that the world needs. It must be original unlike any that you know. What powers does he/she have? What problem will this super hero solve? Students continued reading the Patrick Flaherty journal. HW - Students should be working on gathering research information for their essays.

Journalism - Preparation for the newspaper - discussion of newspaper titles, story ideas etc. HW - none

Career Tech - Started vocabulary for Career Cruising, "Who Am I" worksheet due tomorrow.

Science: Students made their note presentations to the class today. Quiz on Monday is open note and homework.

Geometry: Went over 4.5 notes (ASA & AAS), 4.5 worksheet is homework. Quiz has been moved to Tuesday.

Algebra: Worked on sorting, solving and reflecting upon: equations, inequalities and absolute value functions. Students have a test on 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 on Tuesday, Nov.17th.

Pre Algebra: Students are continuing to work on their in class project. Half of the class is working on a budget project with one and two step equations and the other half of the class is working on a budget problem involving a school play.

Algebra 2: Students reviewed 5.2 and now are working on 5.3. Students have 5.3 for homework.

Course 3: Baker- Students are taking "Quest" on 3.1-3.4. No homework. Austin Course 3-We went over homework 3.4. Students have a mega-quiz on Tuesday(3.1 - 3.4). A practice quiz was given today. Homework - finish practice quiz.

Social Studies: -Students worked in groups and shared facts on section 6.1. Homework is to complete 6.1 guided reading for Monday.

LA - Journal #12 - If you were to move tomorrow where would you go? Why? What might be some drawbacks? Students read aloud the journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty. HW - working on their essays.

Journalism - Write an obit on a famous person. Write an advice column (the problem and the advice). Like a Dear Abby column. HW - none.

Geometry: Activity to prove SSS & stability of triangles!

Algebra: Students reviewed absolute value equations (6.5) and then learned about absolute value inequailities (6.6). Tonight's homework is 6.6 absolute value inequalities (6.6). Students will have a test on 3.5-3.8 and 6.5-6.6 on Tuesdsay, Nov.17th.

Algebra 2: Students took notes on 5.2 and 5.3 in class. They have quiz on 5.2 and 5.3 on Friday.

Pre Algebra: Students are working on 3.2 and have 3.2 homework tonight.

Course 3: Baker- Students have 5.1 homework tonight. Austin- We went over homework sheet 3.3. We took notes on lesson 3.4 (writing two-step equations). Homework - worksheet 3.4, all.

LA - Students continued to research their "most important person". There was not a journal assigned for today. HW - working on their persuasive essay.

Journalism - Students wrote their own obits. They peer edited their papers and then typed up the final draft which was due at the end of the hour. HW - None

Humanities: Finished KWL and guiding questions for our study of the Revolution in class. No homework.

LA - Journal #11 - Reflect on you 7th grade experience. Students starting researching their most important person. They were not allowed to get onto the computer until their chart was done. HW - finishing their journals and working on their papers.

Journalism - Reflecting on yesterdays speaker. (Kim Lifton) Student then were taught how to write and obituary. HW- Students had to write their own obits.

Humanities: Students took notes on the American Revolution in class. Homework is to think of three guiding questions that will serve as the basis of our investigation into this subject.

Pre Algebra - 3.1 In class assignment that is due tomorrow.

Algebra 2 - Students took Ch. 4 Part II Exam. No homework.

LA - Journal #10 - Write about yesterday morning from the perspective of an everyday object or item. (example; shoes, alarm clock, bed). I handed out their research based persuasive essay assignment. Due date is TBD. The rubric and assignment are attached. HW: Make a comparison chart with the criteria. If this is not completed students will not be allowed to use the computers to do their research until this is done.

Journalism - Kim Lifton - Guest speaker who discussed her WOW writing workshop and her career as a journalist. HW - none

Humanities: Students continued to work on KWL for the American Revolution. Current events due Wednesday.

Course 3: Baker- 3.3 W.S. Odds. Austin - Took notes on lesson 3.2. Homework-ws 3.2 # 3-20.

Algebra 2: Ch. 4 Part II test is tomorrow.

Social Studies:
Students reviewed folders and quizzes in class today and then began a discussion on the American Revolution. No homework this evening. Current event due Wednesday.

LA - Journal #9 - What makes a person important? Students came up with criteria on what makes a person important. We then discussed the 3 important historical figures covered in class and used the criteria to prove out of those 3 who is the most important person. The information is first based on opinion and then they had to base facts on their opinion to prove or persuade that in fact that person is indeed important. This is all in preparation for their researched based persuasive essay. HW: thinking of a person that they think is most important to them in the last 100 years.

Journalism - I collected their "review" articles. (Sports, movie or restaurant). We finished our "lost at sea" team building lesson. Students came up with discussion questions to ask our guest speaker tomorrow.

Spanish 1: There is no written homework tonight, but please study vocabulary.

Spanish 8: Please do Worksheet #1 about la familia.

8th Grade Car Tech - New Marking Period, sending home practices and expectations for signature.

Science: Today we completed our investigation of how mass affects speed of a car. We compared this relationship on flat track and a downhill. There is no homework.

Geometry: Class had a 95% average on the chapter 3 test! They ROCK! Today in class we went over the 4.1 notes. The 4.1 worksheet is homework. For this section I have assigned a more challenging set of problems, students need to TRY every problem.

Algebra: Students took notes on solving percents. They have 3.7 homework tonight and it's due on Monday.

Algebra II: Today we reviewed for the test on Tuesday, Nov. 10th.

Course 3: Baker- We went over 3.1 Solving one step equations and started 3.2. Students have 3.2 homework from the worksheet today.

Pre Algebra: Students took Ch.2 Test.

LA - Journal#8 - Have you ever been disobedient? When? Why? Student took the Dolores Huerta quiz. We continued discussing, thesis statements, introductory paragraphs, transition sentences and wrap up within a paragraph. HW - none

Journalism - Students turned in their final Fairy Tale news feature. How to write a review.
HW - To write a review on a restaurant, movie or sporting event on which you either watched or attended over the weekend.

Humanities -Students took a quiz on chapter 5 and turned in homework folders. No homework.

Spanish 1: We finished the presentations for chapter 2 and will move on to chapter 3 next week. Get started learning and reviewing the vocabulary from p. 93.

Spanish 8: We finished presenting the conversations. No homework over the weekend.

Science: Today we started our unit on Newton's laws of motion by investigating the effect that mass has on the speed of a car. Lab re-do's are due tomorrow!

Geometry: Took the chapter 3 test. 4.1 notes are homework.

Algebra: Students reviewed 3.5 in class and then we took 3.6 notes. Students have 3.6 for homework tonight.

Algebra 2: We finished Ch. 4 Part II materials. Students voted to take the Chapter 4 Part II test on Tuesday, Nov. 10th. Homework - Pg. 323 16-24 all.

Course 3: Baker-Today we started Ch. 3.1 and students have 3.1 homework. Austin- Course 3 took the chapter 2 test today. No homework.

Pre Algebra: We reviewed for Ch. 2 test tomorrow.

Humanities: Reviewed for quiz for the second day. Quiz on Thursday. Homework folders due Thursday.

LA - Journal #7 - What advice would a dog give about life if it could talk? Write about that advice. Finished discussing Dolores Huerta - Quiz on the reading tomorrow. Discussed how to write a good introduction and thesis statement. Reading counts makeups need to be taken by the end of the day Thursday. HW - journals and study for Dolores quiz.

Journalism - Fairytale rough drafts are due. Peer editing drafts. Final drafts are due tomorrow.

Spanish 1: The groups that did not present their conversations today will present tomorrow. Otherwise, finish the work assigned yesterday and get started learning/reviewing the new vocabulary from p. 93.

Spanish 8: Tomorrow is the last day to turn in any late work for credit!

Science: Continued working with our new groups on our learning styles. Lab Re-Do's are due Thursday, November 5.

Geometry: Went over practice test. Homework is chapter 3 review (odds) and practice constructions. Test is tomorrow!

Algebra: Students took notes on 3.5 and have homework assigned on the stamp sheet.

Pre Algebra: Students took a quiz today in preparation for their test on Thursday. Afterward, students worked on mathematical puzzles to help review. These worksheets are due tomorrow.

Algebra 2: Students took notes on 4.8 (Quadratic formula and discriminant) and have 4.8 homework. Ch. 4 Part II test on Monday.

Course 3: Baker- Students took Ch. 2 Test today with open notes/book. We will go over the tests on Thursday. Austin- Reviewed for tomorrow's test.

LA - Journal#6 - Tell a fishy story using as many fish words as possible without writing about a fish (example: whale of a good time, clam up). Students took a quiz on the Harriet Tubman reading. Students read and discussed Dolores Huerta - quiz on Thursday. HW: finish up their journal entry and their Huerta worksheet.

Journalism - Students wrote a story based on a fairy tale using their headline and news lead they created yesterday in class. The final news article is due Thursday.

Humanities: Students began chapter 5 quiz review in class. Current event due Wednesday. Chapter 5 quiz on Thursday. Homework folder due Thursday.

Science: All lab re-do's are due by Thursday, November 5 at the latest! Today we did an activity that helped students identify their learning styles (Howard Gardner) and got into new groups based on our learning styles. We will begin Unit 2: Newton's Laws of Motion later this week.

Geometry: Worked on practice test, it is homework. Chapter 3 test Wednesday, November 4.

Course 3: Austin- Students started to do the Chapter 2 practice test. We also went over 2.8 homework. Homework-finish practice test. Chapter 2 test on Wednesday.

Humanities: -Students completed a review of 5.3 with map work and a review of video clips on the French Indian War. There is no homework for this evening, but current events are due Wednesday and homework folders are due Thursday.

Language Arts: Journal #5 - Why are rules important to follow? Students broke out in discussion groups answering questions regarding the Harriet Tubman reading. Students need to finish their journals and study for their Harriet Tubman quiz Tuesday. (It is on the reading).

Journalism -
Students learned how to write a good headline. They had to write a headline on their own based on a fairy tale and also write a news lead. HW: finishing their headline and news leads.

Spanish 1: The students received their 1-2 vocabulary quizzes and chapter test back today. There will be a section retake of the exam Wednesday at lunch for those who want one. Tomorrow there is a small quiz on accents and students will present their "teatro" (the conversation based on the video transcript) on Wednesday and Thursday. In your free time, start reviewing and practicing the new vocabulary from p. 93.

Spanish 8:
Memorize your lines from the video of unit 1 chapter 1 or chapter 2. To prepare, please copy your lines on another piece of paper.
