Science:Continued discussing Newton's 2nd law, homework is to complete the Newton's 2nd Law worksheet. For #5 students will have to look up acceleration due to gravity. Tomorrow we will start planning our next inquiry lab, and students will work on this for the remainder of the week and into next week. Students who are absent on Friday will be missing data collection :( Quiz on the 1st and 2nd law on Thursday.

Geometry: Took the composite over intersecting lines quiz, students need to finish the quiz for homework.

ELA- Students continued their Literary Analysis with Day 2 of Writer's Workshop. We explored themes and looked for evidence to support our theme, if there was not enough evidence to support the theme, we thought about changing our focus. Homework - Journal entry 2.8 - Read - FYI - we set our reading goals for this marking period last week. Students should be reading toward their own personal goal.

Pre-Algebra: Today we went to the computer lab. We worked on Solving One-Step and Two-Step Equations with positive, negative and decimal coefficients. There is no homework.

Spanish: WHAT WE DID TODAY: Today, we practiced the 'La Clase' portion of the Chapter 2 vocabulary list. Attached is the puzzle we worked on. Please download and complete if you were not in class today. TAREA: Study for Vocabulary Quiz tomorrow (Phone a Friend)

8^th grade P.E. Homework:

 Answer the following questions in essay form

·       Now that the weather is turning colder, how are you fitting in daily exercise?  Describe the activities you are doing and how often.

·       What activities influence you to be inactive?

·       What other kinds of healthy lifestyle choices do you incorporate into your daily routine

Criteria

Ø Essays should be informative.

Ø 1-2 pages in length and in final draft form.

Ø A typed paper is preferred but you may hand write.  Must be legible.

Ø Double check your spelling.

Papers are due on or before Monday, November 17. You may turn it in before the due date, but it will be late (lower grade) if not turned in when you come to class.

Science: Graphed the data that was collected on Friday and then discussed what the data tells us about the presence of force acting on the car based on Newton's 1st & 2nd law.

ELA- Students took their Pronoun Quiz, we then moved on to Writer's Workshop. Students began their Writer's Workshop for Literary Analysis today with a discussion about what a short story is about. We discussed theme and how to read a narrative to analyze. Marking up our text packs with questions, sign-posts, etc. We then wrote about what all these notes meant to the meaning of the story. Tonight's journal entry is a homework assignment from our Writer's Workshop. Homework: Journal entry #2.6 - Read

Science:Mrs. Petersen is at the board office today, students collected data to analyze how the speed of a car changes as it moves downhill. Video #1

Thursday, November 6

Science: Took notes on acceleration and discussed how acceleration is different than speed. Homework is the acceleration practice.

Humanities:  Mr. Lyskawa recorded a video to describe what's going on in humanities, watch it here!  -Students reviewed 4.2 and were introduced to our "Declaration Project" in class today. Homework is to answer the following questions in preparation for our skits on Monday: Identify the 5Ws of the Declaration.

-What are the three main ideas in the Declaration (p. 119)?

-What are the arguments for freedom found in the Declaration (3 min.)?

-How did people feel about the Declaration? What are the documents strengths or weaknesses?

Pre-Algebra: Today we took the Chapter 2 Test. No homework.

French 2: Study 10.2 vocabulary, Exercises on pg 314-315 are due on Monday

ELA - Students graded their Grammar from last night, a very easy assignment but very important to their writing skills. We then worked on Grammar 3.9 and 3.10 - Pronoun Problems. This is due for tomorrow. Students should be reading through their Literary Essay Text Packet and have a short story chosen to use for their Literary Essay. Please be sure it is a story that the student can connect with, this will help them analyze the story if they can connect. Homework: Grammar 3.9-3.10, Journal Entry #2.4, READ! Grammar Quiz on Pronouns on Monday.

Geometry: Took our group quiz on reflections over parallel lines. No homework. 

Spanish: WHAT WE DID TODAY: We practiced conjugating 'ar' verbs, then worked on an 'ar' verb puzzle. Most of the 'ar' verb definitions can be found on page 51 in our textbook. Please see below for definitions of verbs not listed on page 51. Also, see the link to the 'ar' verb puzzle in this post. On the back of the puzzle, students wrote 12 sentences using a conjugated form of each verb. TAREA (Homework): Finish the 'ar' puzzle and sentences if you didn't finish it in class. Tomorrow we meet in the PYP lab for our class. 

Wednesday, November 5

Science: Finished discussing the difference in acceleration rates on a flat track compared to a downhill track and learned how to practice acceleration. Students also discussed Isaac Newton and the universal law of gravitation.

Geometry: Began investigating composites of reflections over intersecting lines. Reflections of parallel lines quiz tomorrow!

RR English: Read every evening; Reading log is due Monday, November 10, parents must sign reading logs.

RR Math: A section of math should be completed each night.

French 2: Quiz on Monday on the passé composé, the present tense, the futur proche and the commands. This will be retakeable.

Humanities: Students analyzed election results and were introduced to 4.2 of the text in class.

-Homework is to complete a 4.2 free choice.

ELA-Students discussed any problems with the Grammar last night. We then moved on to Grammar Chapter 3 Lesson 7 "Indefinite Pronoun Agreement", After passing out the Text Packet for our next Writer's Workshop (Literary Essay) I read the beginning of the mentor text "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury. I modeled how I would make notes at particular parts of the story, how I would think out loud what the theme would be, and how I would mark up the text to show evidence. Homework: Journal #2.3, Grammar 3.7, and READ!

Algebra: Finally! We are talking about slope. We discussed section 4.4. Homework: 4.4 worksheet (1-13)

Tuesday, November 4

ELA- We continued our study of Pronouns with Grammar Chapter 3 Lesson 7: Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement. While students worked on this worksheet I met with students individually. We discussed the reading they did last marking period, what worked what didn't and set their goals for 2nd marking period. Most students should be reading books that are 10 points or above. This can be checked on ARbookfind.com. Homework: Journal 2.2 (new marking period), READ!, Grammar packet.

Humanities: Students analyzed political commercials in class today. No homework.

Algebra: We discussed graphing linear equations using the x and y intercepts (4.3). Homework: 4.3 worksheet

Monday, November 3

Science: Took our first notes for Unit 2 on Newton's 1st law of motion, force, mass and inertia. Homework is to complete the Isaac Newton Reading Reflection. We will also have a binder check on Friday.

Geometry: Went over the composite of reflections over two parallel lines from Thursday and began doing proofs of composite reflections over two parallel lines. Homework is to complete the proofs of the other 4 cases.

Humanities: Students shared political cartoons and began to analyze political advertisements in preparation for the 2014 election. Homework is to interview someone at home. Students should ask the following questions: What issues do you believe are most important for this election? Who would you like to see as the next governor of Michigan? Why? Students should have answers to these questions for tomorrow.
