Tuesday, October 8

Science: Continued working with graphs by analyzing speed time graphs. Quizzes were returned and we discussed quiz corrections. Quiz corrections are due on Friday. 3rd hour did not meet today due to MEAP testing. 

Geometry: Finished our cubes! Homework is to complete "The Cube...continued" worksheet. 

Spanish (Farah): WHAT WE DID TODAY: We went to the computer lab to practice our Unit 1 Etapa 1 vocabulary words on www.quizlet.com  HOMEWORK: Study vocabulary words for Fridays quiz. 

Creative Writing: Today in Creative Writing we continued to write our literary essays and also read independently. Homework: Continue to work on your rough draft and read. 

Course 3: MEAP testing in the morning.  Out in the afternoon, all work was done in class. 

No homework.

ELA - After a great morning of MEAPing we took it a little easy.  Students read Rain, Rain, Go Away by Isaac Asimov to introduce them into the strange world of classical Science Fiction. Homework: READ! Journal entry #23

Corrective Reading:  Turn in you reading log if you did not do so yesterday or today for reduced points.  New reading log is due on Monday next week.

R. Room Math:  Assessment Friday- Place Value.  Homework packet is due Friday and is a great review for your test.

Algebra:  homework: worksheet "Extra practice FOR the quiz" that is tomorrow.

Spanish 2: study for the test on Monday. Finish all three worksheets for Monday.

 

French 1; Study your new vocab: the blue section on pg 45

Chinese: Making corrections on Quiz on Strokes, and practice listening and pronouncing pinyin combinations.

Humanities: Students worked on chapter 4 assessment in class today. Chapter 4 assessment and current events are due Thursday.

Monday, October 7

Science: Students worked in groups to match stories with distance vs. time graphs. Homework is to complete the distance vs. time graph worksheet. 

Geometry: Continued our work with "the cube" by building the outer cube, here is a link to the u-tube video if people need help. Homework is to complete the outer cube questions. 

Humanities: Students checked questions for 4.4, were introduced to chapter 4 assessment and began to work on chapter 4 assessment in class. Due to MEAP testing, chapter 4 assessment will be due Thursday. Current events are due Thursday as well.

Spanish (Tomlinson): Ejercicios 9, 10, 11 p. 36-37. No hay clase martes el 8 de octubre; lab en el miercoles el 9 de octubre. (no class Tuesday due to MEAP; class meets Wednesday from 10:07-11 at Avery lab-meet in front hall of Norup)

Course 3: Today we continued to talk about the commutative and associative properties.  Homework is worksheet 2.6, # 1 - 17.

Algebra:  Due to MEAP this week and teacher error, the quiz has been moved to Wednesday (Thursday for 2nd hour).  We did section 3.4/6.3 today, discussing the possibilities of getting all real numbers as a solution or no solutions at all.  Homework: worksheet 3.4/6.3 (attached)

Corrective Reading: Reading logs due today.  The next one is due next Monday.

Math:  Packets due this Friday.

Chinese: We are practicing speaking and listening to pinyin combinations, and students take a quiz on strokes.

Pre-Algebra: Today we briefly reviewed fraction operations in preparation for equation solving. Our focus was addition and subtraction. HW: Mixed Number Addition and Subtraction (front and back)

2nd Hour - due Wednesday (no math tomorrow due to MEAP)

3rd Hour - due Thursday (no math tomorrow or Wednesday due to MEAP)

ELA- Students began their Science Fiction Unit by reading out of our Literature Anthology.  We examined non-fiction writing and were given clues as to how to take notes on the important information in non-fiction writing.  Homework: Read!  Practice making conclusions about characters based on stated facts and inferences in the books we are currently reading as Journal entry #21.

Creative Writing: Today in Creative Writing we continued writing our literary essays. Most students are completing their intro paragraphs and beginning their first body paragraph. (This is only the first draft, I'm hoping the essays will be completed by Friday.) Homework: Read! Continue writing your first draft. 

Friday, September 4

MEAP testing begins next week! 8th graders will have Reading on Oct. 8 & 9, Math on Oct. 15 and Science on Oct. 16.

Science: Took the Unit 1 quiz.  No homework! We will be completing the unit with more discussions of graphs next week, in addition to beginning our next lab "How Fast Am I?".

Geometry: We began our unit on quadrilaterals by making cubes out of Origami paper. Homework is to answer the questions related to the small cube. We will continue this next week with a larger cube followed by constructions of quadrilaterals. 

Corrective Reading logs due Monday with five different responses.

Resource Room Math packets are due Friday.

Spanish II: The three review sheets are all due Mon, Oct 14th. I am moving the test day to the 14th because we have MEAP on Tuesday. ELA - We will be starting our Science Fiction Unit next week so all students needed to be done at least two books by today.  We were reading and taking AR quizzes all this week, hoping this helped students that were behind in their reading.  If your student still has some reading in their novel please have them read this weekend. Homework: READ! 

Chinese: Practice writing Chinese characters by making cards for Chinese Teacher's Day.  

Humanities: Students reviewed 4.3, were introduced to 4.4 and began working on 4.4 notes in class. Homework is to complete 4.4 notes. Have a great weekend.

Wednesday, October 2

Science: Today we continued practicing calculating speed, distance and time as well as how to complete a problem solving box. Homework is the complete the speed worksheet.  Our first quiz is on Friday!

Geometry: We continued practicing constructions, homework is to complete the construction packet. Quiz tomorrow on Pythagorean theorem and special right triangles!

Course 3: We took our quiz today.  No homework.

ELA - We will be starting our Science Fiction Unit next week so all students need to be done at least two books by the end of this week.  We will be reading and taking AR quizzes all this week. Homework: READ! Journal Entry #19.

Humanities: Students reviewed 4.1 and were introduced to 4.2 in the text. Homework is to complete 4.2 guided reading.

Corrective Reading: We are switching from reading to writing this week.  Reading logs and 5 different responses will still be due on Monday.

Creative Writing: Today in Creative Writing we took AR quizzes in the media center, wrote from a journal prompt and read independently while searching for the signpost of contrasts and contradictions within individual novels. For those students finished with their novels, they worked on writing a theme sentence/intro paragraph for a literary essay.    Homework: Read your novel. Begin intro paragraphs for the literary essay.

Chinese: Students made correction on Dictation 2, and we began introducing China with handout and video.

Tuesday, October 1

Science: Today students practiced calculating speed by using the car on an incline track and comparing the speed of the car before and after it bounced off of a rubber band. Quiz on Friday!

Geometry: Practiced some additional constructions. Homework is the construction packet.

Course 3: Today we reviewed for our quiz on Wednesday October 2nd.

Corrective Reading:  Reading logs and five responses due Monday October 7th.  If you did not turn in your log yesterday, Sept. 30th, you need to turn it in to me tomorrow for reduced credit.

Resource Room Math:  Homework packets/Multiplication daily forms due October 11th.

Spanish II: Look through unit 1 and unit 2 review worksheets, and put stars by the sections you do not understand. We will go over them tomorrow. 1st review test is next Tuesday, Oct 8th. This is a TEST grade, and cannot be retaken. Please come and ask for help at lunch.

Monday, September 30

Science: Today we discussed how to calculate speed and learned how to make a problem solving box. We then practiced solving speed problems with the aid of problem solving boxes. Click here for the presentation.

Geometry: Went over the special right triangles activity and took notes on special right triangles (7.4). Homework is the 7.4 worksheet. 

Corrective Reading:  Reading logs are due today.  Your new reading log will be due next Monday.

Chinese: Learn and make 15 flashcards of 15 strokes of Chinese characters.

Humanities: Students reviewed chapters 1-3 and corrected our summative assessments in class. No homework. No current event Wednesday. 

Spanish (Tomlinson) For Friday--flashcards for 1.1 vocab (unidad 1 etapa 1); for Wednesday--finish math packet from Friday, if not finished. Lab tomorrow-meet in front hall.

Course 3: We divided integers today.  Homework is worksheet 2.5, #1 - 22.  Quiz on Wednesday.

ELA - Students are being given a gift this week.  I have heard many complaints and seen many wide eyes when I told them that they should be reading each night and should be almost done 2 books.  We will be starting our Science Fiction Unit next week so I would like all students to be done at least two books by the end of this week.  We will be reading and taking AR quizzes all week. Homework: READ!
