Science: Continued working on the eye packet and demonstrated the eye dissection. 

Geometry: Reviewed factoring. 

Humanities: Students checked 19.2 and worked on 19.3 in class. If students finished 19.3, they turned in books.  If not, all books are due by Monday. Homework folders are due Monday.

Spanish 1: Don't forget to turn in your books TO MY HAND either tomorrow Friday or on Monday. Also you need to turn in your 2 final review packets by Monday. 

Course 3: Students took final exam.  No homework.

ELA - Students took their final today, grades should be posted by tomorrow morning and I will hand them back on Monday.  Tomorrow is a full day for 8th grade.  We have the Immigration Experience all day tomorrow, which promises to be a fun filled day!  Then tomorrow night our 8th Grade Gala from 6:00-8:00! I'm so thankful for all of the help parents have provided for both events.  NIS is sending off a great group of students, whom I am sure will represent their roots well at which ever high school they attend. Homework: Live a good life, and KEEP READING!

Wednesday, June 5

Science: Began studying the human eye today in preparation for Monday's eye dissection. Any students with books or discs need to return them by tomorrow. 

Geometry:  Practiced solving systems and graphing inequalities today (pg. 880 & 881). 

Spanish I: All review sheets passed out today and tomorrow will be due this Thursday. Answers will be on the blog, since we will not have time to go over them. The final exam is this Wednesday and Thursday.

Course 3: Final exam today.

Humanities: Students reviewed 19.1, were introduced to 19.2 and worked on 19.2 summaries or section assessments in class. 19.2 is due tomorrow.

ELA - We finished our reading of First Crossing: Stories About Teen Immigrants.  We heard the stories of teens immigrating from Mexico, Venezuala, Haiti, and Cambodia.  The students were then given their journals back and were given time to study for finals. Remember: our final is tomorrow, encourage students to look over their work, as simple mistakes can hurt on a short test.

Tuesday, June 4

Science: Students took their final exam. Family history is due tomorrow. 

Geometry: Went over the final exam and review of simplifying radicals and exponents. If students did not finish the Solving Formulas page 877 then it is homework.

Humanities: Students finished preparing for our "Immigration Day," and worked on 19.1 section assessment in class. Homework is to complete 19.1 section assessment. Please be sure to find textbooks by Thursday.

Monday, June 3

Anyone entering 8th Grade Graduation Speech Contest needs to submit a copy of their speech to Mrs. Weiss by the end of lunch tomorrow (6/4).

Science: Went over the review for the final exam. Final exam is tomorrow, homework is to study! 

Geometry: Began reviewing some of the major concepts from algebra to help ease the transition to Algebra 2. The average on the final exam was 94%, nice work!

Humanities: Students prepared for our Ellis Island simulation on Friday. No homework.

ELA - Today AR quizzes were due during the hour the student attended class.  I will be shutting down AR tomorrow (FYI).  We continued our discussions on immigration by reading our third story "Making Maddie Mad" by Rita Williams-Garcia from our book First Crossings: Stories about Teen Immigrants. The unfortunate loss of the Spirit Assembly opened up another day allowing me to give a Final for ELA.  This final will consist of grammar and reading comprehension.  Basics from what we have learned all year.  This final will be administered on Monday, June 10th.  I will work hard to get them graded as soon as possible and will have finals (hopefully) finished to distribute on Tuesday before students are released. Please remember journals are due tomorrow with at least 50 entries (10 extra credit points will be given if students write 10 extra entries). Homework: READ!  Journal entry #50

Algebra: We took a practice test today.  I have posted the answers to both the review and practice test. Final exam is on Wednesday! 

 

Course 3: Today we reviewed for our final exam June 5th and 6th.  It is not on the 7th.

Friday, May 31

Science: Played Jeopardy to review for the final exam. Quests were also returned, students can do quest corrections for additional credit. The review for the final is due Monday and Quest corrections are due Tuesday. Final exam is on Tuesday.

Geometry: Took the final exam!!!!

Spanish I: Study guide for the final and the 30 questions for the final are due on Monday. The Spanish final will be on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Tech 8 (Stein): 1st and 2nd Hour: Pros and Cons of Technology; 3rd Hour: PowerPoint Activity

Pre-Algebra: We are continuing to review for the Final Exam which will be next week Wednesday and Thursday (June 5,6).  It is a difficult final.  I assigned the last part of the final review.  It is due on Monday!

ELA - Students met in the Media Center to learn of the Berkley High 9th Grade Summer Reading requirements.  We then finished We continued our Community Read today by finishing our second short story "Second Culture Kids" by Dian Curtis Regan. We will be reading a story every two days and comparing our lives to the lives of the immigrants, we will then culminate the community read with the "Immigration Experience" planned for June 7th.  A wonderful way to end the year! Homework: READ!!!!! and Journal #47. Remember AR quizzes are due during class on Monday, June 3rd, no late submissions.  I still have many students that have not taken any independent reading quizzes...very scary with only 3 days until 3 quizzes are due!

Course 3: We started to review for our final exam.  It is on June 6th and 7th.

Thursday, May 30

Mrs. Weiss visited 8th grade Language Arts classes today to introduce the Graduation Speech Writing Contest.  Any students interested in speaking at graduation should submit a speech to Mrs. Weiss (speeches can be typed or handwritten).  Speeches are due by the end of lunch on Tuesday, June 4th.  See attached flier for more information.

Geometry: Continued reviewing for the final by filling out our cheat sheets and practice the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines, I've included some links for extra practice. Final is tomorrow! Hotmath practice, Regents Exam Prep, Math Warehouse, 

Science: Began reviewing for Tuesday's final exam. The review is due on Monday. Students should also be working on the Family Roots project discussed yesterday that coincides with the community read in Language Arts. 

Tech 8 (Stein): 1st Hour: Pros and Cons of Technology; 2nd Hour: Presentations; 3rd Hour: PowerPoint Activity 

Humanities: Students checked 18.2 and discussed 18.3 in class. Homework is to complete 18.3 free choice and offer an opinion on whether or not Reconstruction was successful. Current events are due tomorrow.

Gallo.  The story we read today is called "Second Culture Kids" by Dian Curtis Regan and is about the experience of a Venezuelan teen moved to the US when political uprisings cause her step-father's company to evacuate workers and their families.  We will be reading a story every two days and comparing our lives to the lives of the immigrants, we will then culminate the community read with the "Immigration Experience" planned for June 7th.  A wonderful way to end the year! Homework: READ!!!!! and Journal #48 Remember AR quizzes are due during class on Monday, June 3rd, no late submissions.  I still have many students that have not taken any independent reading quizzes...very scary with only 4 days until 3 quizzes are due!

Wednesday, May 29

Science: Students took the Light Quest and we then discussed the science portion of this year's community read. Students are asked to find out as much as they can about their family's history regarding immigration to the United States. We know that information might be limited, so if students are unable to determine that information we ask that they find out as much as they can about where their family has lived, for how long, reasons for moving, etc... This is a 10 point homework assignment but students can earn extra credit by making a poster of their findings. Reminder- Science final exam is Tuesday, June 4.

Geometry: Went over the final exam review and worked on the formula sheet. We will continue reviewing tomorrow for Friday's final exam.

Tech 8 (Stein): Presentations. All missing work is due May 31.

Spanish I: The 3.2 worksheet passed out yesterday is due tomorrow. Tomorrow is the second part of the 3.2 test: study your stem-changing verbs, the comparison words, and saber versus conocer. Today I passed out the first review sheet for the final. It is due on Monday. The final will be next week on Wednesday and Thursday.

ELA - We continued our Community Read today by finishing our first short story from the collection First Crossings: Stories about Teen Immigrants edited by Donald R. Gallo.  The first story we read is also called "First Crossing" by Pam Munoz Ryan and is about the experience of a Mexican teen coming to the US to work. We then wrote in our journals, comparing and contrasting our lives to the main character, Marco's, life. We will be reading a story every two days and comparing our lives to the lives of the immigrants, we will then culminate the community read with the "Immigration Experience" planned for June 7th.  A wonderful way to end the year! Homework: READ!!!!! and Journal #47. Remember AR quizzes are due during class on Monday, June 3rd, no late submissions.  I still have many students that have not taken any independent reading quizzes...very scary with only 5 days until 3 quizzes are due!
