Friday, March 13


Pre-Algebra: We finished our "Which is the Orange-ist" activity.  Super impressive thinking.  Homework is some graphing of linear equations.

Algebra: We did an activity on exponential growth today.  The only homework is the equation solving worksheet (on Wednesday's) blog.  Check out the Screen Chomp below to review the 2 exit slip problems we did on Wednesday.  Have a great weekend. Here's my ScreenChomp video!

Science: Most classes worked on the "What is Safe?" project. 4th hour finished the notes and got the static worksheet (other classes got this earlier this week). Static worksheet is due on Monday.

Tech 8: Worked on brochures that are due Tuesday. They will have the hour Monday to work on them as well. Check edmodo.com for the rubric and additional information.

Geometry: Started to learn how to use the TI-Inspire calculators. 

Humanities: Students checked 12.3 and current events in class. No homework.

ELA - Students were given the hour to read and catch up on AR books, just over a week to complete all 4 (3 independent books and TKM).  We will be doing a sample "on the spot" writing activity next week.  Please try and be sure your student is in school, as if they miss one day (Mon, Tues, and/or Wed) they will miss a crucial part of the instruction. Homework: READ!

Technology 8 - Orlando What we did today: Students found fun facts on what can be insured.  We then viewed some family budget projects from former students.  We will begin the family budget project on Monday. Homework: No homework. Discussion topics: What city do you hope to live in for the family budget project?

Spanish: Norup won the dance in Chicago thanks to AJ McBee and Brendan Radtke. Three cheers for our Spanish dancers!!

Course 3: We do not have homework today.

8th Graders Visited the Museum of African American History Today

Science: Finished the Electricity notes, Electric Charge and Static Electricity worksheet is homework (due Monday).

Spanish I: Study 2.3 vocab (part 2) for a quiz on Thursday, March 21st. The vocab packet that goes with these words is also due the same day. Chicago people: Remember you are meeting me at the school tomorrow at 5:30 am. 

Humanities: We enjoyed our field trip today. Homework is to complete 12.3 free choice and a current event for tomorrow.

March Miracle entry forms are due Friday, March 15.

Science: Completed Investigation 15-A (Electric Charge) and collected circuit plans. Quiz corrections are due on Friday, if students are going to Chicago then they should turn in their corrections on Friday. 

Geometry: Went over the 9.5 notes (Compositions of Transformations) and quizzes were returned. 9.5 worksheet is homework. 


Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: Students worked on typing and explored some other websites. Homework: No homework.  No class tomorrow because of the field trip Discussion topics: How many words can you type per minute?

Humanities: Students practiced and performed our historical poetry in class.  Students also had an opportunity to work on 12.3 free choice in class. 12.3 and current events are due Friday.

Tech 8 (Stein): Watched a video on planning and designing a publication. Viewed an example and created a hard copy rough draft of the college research brochure. All links, documents and the rubric are available on www.edmodo.com. Brochures are due Tuesday, March 19.

Pre-Algebra: We worked on an activity today.  No homework.

Algebra: Today we went over our quizzes from Monday,  did some review problems from 8.3,  and introduced Friday's activity.  No homework today.  I tried to attach the equation solving assignment that is due on Monday (hope it works).

ELA - Students graded their Grammar Chapter 4 Lesson 3 (4.3) Linking Verbs and Predicate Words.  Then began working on their next lesson 4.4 Principal Parts of Verbs.  This is a concept that is being or has been taught in Spanish as well so it should be fairly easy :)  When they completed the assignment they were given the rest of the hour to read.  As always I am open at lunch for any clarification or a quiet reading environment. Homework: Grammar 4.4, READ! Journal entry #29. Remember all AR quizzes are due Monday, March 25th, the last day of the marking period is the 28th (a half day)


Course 3: Today we worked on decimals fractions and percents.  No homework. 4th hour-hw-worksheet 7.1, all.

Science:Took notes on AC/DC and how electricity is transmitted to homes. Circuit plans are due tomorrow!

Geometry: Took the chapter 9 quiz, homework is 9.5 notes.


ELA - Students turned in TKM books, and yesterday's Grammar Packet.  Today we looked at Grammar 4.3 Linking Verbs and Predicate Words - due tomorrow.  If students finished their grammar they were encouraged to read their AR books, quizzes are due by Monday, March 25th. Please give me until the end of this week to finish grading projects, it is slow going. Homework: Grammar 4.3, READ, Journal entry #27

Humanities: Students reviewed 12.1 and 12.2, and began working (in groups) on poems to be presented in class tomorrow. Homework is to finish poems for tomorrow. Current events are due Friday.

Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: We continued to brainstorm elements for our family budget project.  Students contributed ideas for "disaster days" "extra expenses" and "bonus days".  We will begin our family budget unit next Monday.  Homework: No homework. Discussion topics: If you could pick any city to live in from the list we produced, what would it be, and why?

Course 3: Today we started to talk about ratios and rates.  Homework is worksheet 7.1, all.  4th hour took the chapter 11 test today.  No homework.


Pre-Algebra: Homework:  6.3 practice (#3,6,8,11,13,15,19,23,26,28)
 
Algebra: Scientific notation.  Homework:  p. 515 (3-48 multiples of 3) Also, we have a crazy hard equation solving worksheet which is due on Monday.

Geometry: Went over the 9.3 homework and took notes on 9.4 (rotations). Homework is 9.4 worksheet (odds only). Chapter 9 quiz is tomorrow.

Science: Quizzes were returned and quiz corrections were discussed, except for 3rd hour (they will get them back tomorrow). We then discussed the "What is Safe" project  and students were shown examples of past projects. 

Spanish I: Study for the 2.3 vocab quiz (part 2) on March 21st. The 2.3 vocab packet (part 2) is also due that day.

Humanities: Students checked 12.1 and shared current events in class today. Homework is to read and summarize 12.2.

ELA - Students were encouraged to bring a novel to class this week to catch up on their AR books (4 total due this marking period).  Grammar Packet 4.1-4.2 due tomorrow. Homework: Grammar Packet READ and Journal entry #27

Course 3: Students took the chapter 11 test today.  No homework. 4th hour will review today.  Test is tomorrow.

Technology 8 - Orlando What we did today: Students began by taking the school survey for improving the cafeteria.  We then began talking about the family budget unit and brainstorming items to consider when planning a budget for a family for a month.  Homework: No homework. Discussion topics: What expenses did we discuss that were new or surprising to you?

Pre-Algebra: We worked on proportions today.  Homework:  6.2B evens only

Algebra: We took a short quiz today.  Homework:  1/2 sheet reviewing multiplying by powers of 10 and 8.3A (evens only)

Geometry: Went over the 9.2 homework and took notes on 9.3 (reflections), homework is the 9.3 worksheet. 9.1-9.4 quiz is on Tuesday.


Technology 8 - Orlando: What we did today: Students finished their college presentations today.  Once they finished, they worked on Nitrotype. Homework: No homework Discussion topics: What was your overall feeling about the college research projects?

Spanish I: The 2.3 quiz (part 2) will be on Thursday, March 21. The 2.3 (part 2) worksheet is due then.

Course 3: All classes except for 4th hour have a test on Monday.  Extra review starts on page 636 of their textbook.  4th hour test is on Tuesday.

Science: Only 2nd and 3rd hour met today and took notes on page 330-333.

Humanities: Students reviewed chapter 11, brainstormed current events and watched a video on westward expansion in class. Current events are due tomorrow.

Spanish I: Work on the 2.3 vocab packet part 2. This won't be due until the 2.3 quiz (part 2) that won't be for a few weeks.


Pre-Algebra: Started our Chapter 8 test.  No homework!
Algebra: Did not meet today.  Remember the quiz for 8.1/8.2 is on Monday.


ELA - Students presented projects on a voluntary basis, then read for the rest of the hour.  Many students have not read anything other than To Kill a Mockingbird and still have 3 more individual books to read before the end of the marking period.  The due date for AR quizzes is March 25!  Please get your students reading!
 
Homework: READ!!!!!! Make sure your Personal Journal has at least 26 entries.
