Thursday, December 9 (B-Day)

8th Graders took the ACT Explore test this morning during 1-3 hour.

Science: Watched Bill Nye "Energy" while working on the Energy packet and lab corrections, both of which are due on Monday, December 13. 

Algebra: 4th hour:   Finished up the chapter with discussion of 4.5 and 6.7. Homework:  worksheet 6.7 due on Monday. 5th hour:   Reviewed graphing lines in slope-intercept form and discussed 4.5. Homework:  Review-finding slope and y-intercepts. Unit 4 test for 4th and 5th hours on Tuesday the 14th, Unit 4 test for 2nd hour on Wednesday the 15th. Remember:  I am available before school and at lunch for extra help.

LA - We went over the questions from our previous autobiography reading of Gerda Weismann Klein. We then read a biography about "The Dragon Lady" - Dolores Huerta and students had to answer some follow up questions. HW - working on their Cereal Box projects. Due Jan 4th.

Art 7/8: 2nd hr. 8th grade students did not meet today due to Explore test.
4th and 5th hr students will begin Picasso inspired plans for their clay tile project.
Advanced Art grade 8: This class did not meet today due to Explore test.

Wednesday, December 8 (A-Day)

Science: Today we took notes on pages 65-70 using the jigsaw method. Note-taking guide for Unit 3 is attached.  Lab corrections & energy packet are due on Monday, December 13.

Geometry: 5.5 & 5.6 notes and activity completion. 5.5 worksheet is homework. Miss Reed also shared a website to help students practice the difference centers of triangles.  http://www.mathopenref.com/trianglecenters.html

Algebra: Today was a review day. We focused on the 3 methods of graphing a line: make a table, find intercepts, slope-intercept form. Assignment today was a worksheet on putting equations in slope-intercept form and finding the slope and y-intercept. 2nd hour will not meet until next Monday because of block scheduling and the ACT testing. Their test is scheduled for next Wednesday (12/15). 4th and 5th hour test is scheduled for next Tuesday (12/14).

Social Studies: Students corrected 7.1 guided reading, introduced 7.2 and began to work on 7.2 assessment in class. No homework-7.2 section assessment is due Monday, Current events due "C" and "F" days. Explore test tomorrow morning-get a good night sleep and eat breakfast please.

LA - Today I passed out the biography/autobiography project. The due date is Tuesday Jan. 4th. We also read and discussed the autobiography of "Gerda Weismann Klein (no relation!). HW - reading their bio/autobio. books and working on their projects.

Art 7/8: 2nd hr. caring/ sharing holiday cards were completed yesterday! They are beautiful! The inside message reads, "May your holiday season be painted with stars......please detach, hang and enjoy your star from ........Norup International School Today, 2nd hr. will begin plans for their Picasso inspired clay piece. 4th and 5th hrs. will complete Picasso inspired scratch arts.


Advanced Art grade 8: Students will continue their pastel fruit bowls.

Tuesday, December 7 (F-Day)

ACT Explore Test is on Thursday 12/9 and will take up the whole morning.

Science (4th & 6th Hour): Investigation 4-A (Force, Work & Machines). Labs were returned and corrections are due on Monday, December 13.

Geometry: Went over the 5.4 homework and did a review activity for chapter 5. Took the 5.1-5.4 quiz.

Algebra: Test next Tuesday (week from today) on chapter 4, 2nd and 4th hour: assigned worksheets 4.5 and 4.6. 5th hour: 4.5 worksheet was assigned yesterday
Social Studies: Students shared current events and began the geography challenge in class today. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

LA - Read aloud The Pigman Ch 11 and discussed. We also read and discussed the journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty. Students at each table were given a specific question to answer from the reading and we discussed as a whole class. HW - reading their novels. Extra Credit - bring in a box of tissue or hand santizer for 5 points.
Technology: Students worked on Module 1, Part 1. Four Forum posts and one Essay are due by Monday December 13th. A new assignment will be given at that time so all work needs to be uploaded or posted prior to class. http://moodle.oakland.k12.mi.us/berkley/course/view.php?id=107

Monday, December 6 (E-Day)

Science: Began Unit 3: Work & Energy by brainstorming "What is Energy" and working on the Forms of Energy packet. This packet is due on Friday.

Geometry: 5.4 Notes (Medians & Altitudes) in class, 5.4 worksheet is homework. 5.1-5.4 quiz tomorrow!

Algebra: We handed back quizzes today (updated on family access). Started 4.5 and 4.6 slope-intercept form. I have attached homework worksheets for 4.5 and 4.6. which will be assigned in the next 2 days.
Pre-Algebra: Students took the chapter 3 test today. No homework.

LA - We read The Pigman - Ch10. Student's finished the Harriet Tubman biography and then took a quick quiz on it. I am out today at the board office. Have a great Monday. HW - none

Social Studies: Mrs. Weiss provided details of Thursday's Explore Test in class today. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Art 7/8: 2nd hour will be putting the holiday caring/sharing cards together today. 4th and 5th hr. will continue etching their Picasso scratch arts. I will review the grading rubric today as well.


Advanced Art grade 8: Students will continue the fruit still life using chalk pastels.

Thursday, December 2 (C-Day)

Science: 1st & 5th hours checked the practice test review for tomorrow's test. All classes, Unit 2 test tomorrow! Students have the following to help them study: practice test review, unit 2 quiz, notes, 3 homework assignments. Good luck tomorrow!

LA - Today I only met with 3rd hour (C day). Students went over the elements of plot and took notes. We also discussed major (dynamic) and minor (static) characters. Students also worked on grammar, "combining to imitate" - practicing with prepositional phrases.  HW - plot out their fiction book that they just completed. Due tomorrow 12/3. Students should be reading the biography or autobiography book every night. At least 30 pages. Their next accelerated quiz will be on 1/10.

Social Studies: Students shared current events and worked on geography facts in class. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

Pre-Algebra: We started a practice test for chapter 3.  They must finish it for homework.  Chapter 3 test is on Monday.

Technology: Students began Module 1 Part 1 in Moodle. This Module focuses on globalization and the effects it will have on the job market. We watched a video that gave many facts at a high rate while the students took notes. This was to emphasize how fast information is coming at them and how quickly the world and technology are changing. Students are to have the article on globalization done by tomorrow.

In class on Friday, students will view 3 videos (posted on Moodle) post responses to each and then write an essay on globalization using the information given from the four videos and the article in this section. Wednesday, December 1 (B Day)

Science: 1st & 5th hour played jeapardy review & finished working on review, which is due tomorrow. 4th & 6th hours went over the practice test. Unit 2 test is Friday, December 3. The practice test is the study guide!

Geometry: 5.2 notes, 5.2 worksheet is homework. 5.1-5.4 quiz is Tuesday, November 7.

Pre-Algebra: We took notes and discussed lesson 3.6 (multi-step inequalities). Homework-worksheet 3.6, # 1 - 20. Chapter test is Monday.

Algebra: Started section 4.4 (slope) Homework: Study for Quiz that covers sections 4.1 to 4.3
Social Studies: Students turned in homework folders and presented "protest" projects in class. No homework. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

LA - Students spent the hour in the media center taking their A.R. quizzes, (fiction book and Iqbal). They also had to choose a biography or autobiography to read for their next quiz, which will be on Jan 10th.  HW - To read at least 30 pages in their books
Art 7/8: 2nd hr. continues holiday cards. We are designing 3-d star ornaments and attaching to a card. 4th and 5th hr. continue etching Picasso scratch arts.
Advanced Art grade 8: Day 4 on daily still life drawing. Students will continue fruit bowl still lifes.

Tuesday, November 30 (A Day)

Science: Worked on the practice test for Unit 2 test and simile review. The practice test is due tomorrow for 4th & 6th hour and Thursday for 1st & 5th hour. "Is the Force with you?" lab is due tomorrow. Unit 2 test is Friday, December 3.

Geometry: Congrats to everyone on their success on the chapter 4 test, the class had a 98% average! Today we began chapter 5, relationships in triangles. 5.1 worksheet is homework.

Pre-Algebra: We discussed lesson 3.5 more. Homework-worksheet 3.5, # 9 - 24.

Algebra: Discussed section 4.3 (x- and y- intercepts). Assigned worksheet 4.3 Reminder: Quiz over sections 4.1 to 4.3 on Friday!!

Social Studies: Students discussed current events, worked on folders and finished protest projects in class. Homework folders and protest projects are due tomorrow. Current events due "C" and "F" days.

LA - Today we started our new unit, biographies and autobiographies. Students were to define; biography, autobiography, memoir, journal and diary. We then went on to read a biography about Jackie Robinson. Students had to answer a couple of questions regarding the reading. We will be reading many stories like these in class and discussing the importance of them. HW - finish their fiction novel for the quiz tomorrow.

Art 7/8: 2nd hr. begins Holiday Caring/Sharing Cards. 4th and 5th hrs. will receive a demonstration today on etching and will begin etching into their Picasso scratch art.


Adv. Art grade 8: Demonstration today on chalk pastels.
