Thursday, November 7

Science: Went over the notes on Newton's 2nd law of motion and collected data on the flat and incline track to compare acceleration and force in investigation 2-A. No homework. Quiz on Newton's 1st & 2nd law is Tuesday. 

Geometry: Finished translations, homework is the 9.1 worksheet. Translation quiz is tomorrow!


C. Reading:  Reading logs are due Monday.


R. Room Math:  Test is Friday.  Homework packet is due Friday.  If you can do the homework, you will be fine on the test.  Please see me before the test if you want me to review your homework early.



ELA - Students continued their Writer's Workshop with Day 7 - Writing Connected Example paragraphs.  Between yesterday's lesson and today's lesson, students should have two paragraphs written for their Literary Essay. Homework - Finish paragraph, READ! Journal entry #8


Humanities: Today in humanities we went over 6.2 section assessment. Students were assigned the 6.3 question worksheet due tomorrow


Spanish (Tomlinson): Vocab practice--due tomorrow. Vocab quiz (1.2)-tomorrow. Study!!!!

Algebra- Today we discussed graphing coordinate points, quadrants, graphing functions from ordered pairs, function form, and rearranging equations in order to solve for a different variable.  Homework: 3.8 Rewriting Equations practice

Spanish 2: book exercises. Check my blog to see which ones. Due on Monday. 

French 1: Test grades are up on family access. Study the purple words on of 73 for a vocab practice quiz on Wednesday and the real one on Thursday.  Today's worksheet is due on Wednesday 


Pre-Algebra: Solving multi-step equations with negative coefficients, variables on both sides, distributive property,  and collecting like terms. HW: Solving Multi-step Equations worksheet


Course 3: We reviewed for our quiz.  There is extra practice on pages 280 - 282.

Science: Read and took notes on Newton's 2nd Law of Motion and went over the acceleration homework. Quiz on Newton's 1st and 2nd Law will be Tuesday, November 12.

Geometry: Discussed translations, homework is the translation practice in the transformation packet. Translation quiz is on Friday.

C. Reading:  Read daily.  Logs are due Monday.

R. Room Math:  Homework packets are due this Friday.  You will have a test this Friday.  I am happy to check your homework prior to the test.  If you can do the homework...you will be fine on the test :)


Humanities: Students checked 6.2 and shared current events in class. No homework.

Spanish (Tomlinson): Study flashcards for vocab quiz on Friday (quiz yourself AND have parent/sib/friend quiz you also)

Course 3: We have a quiz on lessons 5.1 - 5.4 on Friday.  Students were given the review today.  It is homework if they did not finish. 

Spanish (Farah): Gender of nouns and Gender Agreement. 

ELA - I must not have sent in yesterday's blog, I have both Day 5 and Day 6 attached.  Sorry! For Writer's Workshop Day 6 students worked on writing paragraphs with evidence proving their claim properly utilized.

Spanish II: The project of tener pictures was due yesterday and must be colored. The review worksheet part 1 (on weather and tener expressions) must be turned in on Wednesday, Nov 13th - the day of the chapter test. I will be gone Thursday and Friday this week. I will be going to a world language conference in Lansing. Creative Writing: Today in creative writing we began Persuasive Writing: Writer's Workshop, lesson one for our next paper. Practiced fact vs. opinion.  Homework: Read

Science: Completed investigation 2-A, comparing speeds of the car on the flat track compared to on an incline when mass is varied. No homework.

Geometry: Took the Reflection quiz. Homework is to read 9.1 and take notes.

C. Reading:  Logs due Monday.  Read each night.

R. Room Math:  Students will have a test Friday and their homework packet is also due on Friday.  If my students can do the homework, they will be fine on the test.  I am happy to look at the homework prior to Friday.


Humanities: Students reviewed 6.1 and began to work on 6.2 section assessment in class. Homework is to complete 6.2 section assessment and a current event for tomorrow.


Spanish (Tomlinson): Friday-vocab quiz. HW-family sheet (attached)

Chinese: Learn to write Lesson 3 Text 2's characters. WB: p. 16-17. Class work/ homework: write each character 3 times by steps.


Pre-Algebra: Today we completed the assessment for Chapter 2. HW: remember to bring your completed review sheet tomorrow


Course 3: Today we are dividing fractions and mixed numbers.  Homework is worksheet 5.4, #1-16.  Quiz Thursday.

Algebra:  Functions, Domain and Range.  Homework: ISN Function Sort

Spanish 2: The worksheet handed out today is due next Wednesday. Study you vocab on pag 241 and the study guide passed out today for a chapter test next Wednesday

Question:   Describe three ways how your team effectively communicated during flag football games.  Give at least two challenges your team faced when trying to communicate during flag football games.  Were you able to overcome these challenges? If so, how? If not, why? What can you do to become a better communicator? Essays should be informative, neat, typed and completed on time. Papers are due on or before Monday, November 11.


Creative Writing: Today in creative writing we practiced different forms of pronouns and discussed the future Prezi project. Presented Reader's Workshop Lesson 4. In tonight's reading, pay attention to who holds the source of power in your novel.  Homework: Read 

Spanish (Farah): WHAT WE DID TODAY: Students worked in the lab. Those with signed permission slips created Avatars on Voki.com/classroom, and wrote dialogues for their Avatars to say. Those without signed permission slips logged onto Quizlet.com to practice the vocabulary words for Chapter 1.2. There is a vocabulary QUIZ on Friday, November 8.  HOMEWORK: Study Vocabulary words for Friday's QUIZ.

Monday, November 4

Science: 1st & 3rd hours got their tests back and went over the tests. 5th-7th hour took notes on Newton's 1st law and acceleration. The acceleration worksheet is homework.

Geometry: Finished practicing reflections, reflection quiz is tomorrow. 


8th grade P.E. Question:   Describe three ways how your team effectively communicated during flag football games.  Give at least two challenges your team faced when trying to communicate during flag football games.  Were you able to overcome these challenges? Chinese: We are working on giving everyone in class a Chinese name, and the class work is listing  Chinese names of all classmates.

Course 3: Homework is all of worksheet 5.3.

ELA- Students identified reasons to support their claim for Literary Analysis Writer's Workshop.  Journals were handed back and the newest Teaching Point (Day 4) was written in as the first journal entry for the second marking period.  Homework: READ (remember another 5 novels should be read for 2nd marking period) Journal #2

Spanish (Farah): WHAT WE DID TODAY: Today, students will receive Vocabulary Lists for Chapter 1.2. We will also discuss gender agreement in the Spanish language. Students will receive a permission slip for the Voki Website.  HOMEWORK: Vocabulary cards should be completed for the new vocabulary list. Vocab Quiz on Friday, Nov. 8. Students must return the Voki permission slip in order to participate in tomorrow's lab. Voki is a website where students can create their own Spanish speaking avatar. Students will not want to miss this lab, therefore, please be certain that your child returns the signed permission slip. (Please see attached for extra slips) Students without signed permission slips will work with new vocabulary words in Quizlet.com

Science: Took notes on Newton's 1st Law of Motion, 1st hour labs were returned and we discussed lab corrections. Lab corrections for all classes are due on Monday.

Geometry: Continued working on reflections, the reflection practice is homework. Reflection quiz is on Tuesday.


Corrective Reading:  Logs due on Monday.


R. Room Math:  Packets/test next Friday.  Study X facts daily!



Humanities: Students worked on Chapter 6 storyboards in class. No homework.


Spanish (Tomlinson): Any work from 1.2 due tomorrow. Flashcards for 1.2 due Monday. Happy Halloween and Día de los muertos

French I: Homework is begin studying new words on pg 73: the purple words


ELA - For Day 3 of our Literary Analysis Writer's Workshop, students worked on finding evidence to support their theories. We explored different ways of using evidence, rather than always quoting.  Band students missed the last few periods and I will not see them tomorrow on the 1/2 day.  Please have them work on this assignment over the weekend.  Happy Halloween!

Course 3: No homework tonight!!  

Algebra:  Happy Halloween!  We took our Chapter Test today.  Hopefully, it wasn't too scary!!

Science: Continued Investigation 2-A, exploring the Law of Inertia. 5th-7th hour labs were returned and lab corrections were discussed. Lab corrections are due on Monday if they are going to make it on to this cardmarking. 1st & 3rd hour will get their labs back tomorrow or Friday.

Geometry: Investigated reflections using construction tools. Homework is to complete the reflection in the coordinate plane investigation. Reflections quiz will be Tuesday, Nov. 5. Here's a good website to demonstrate reflections. 

C. Reading: Reading logs for corrective reading are due Monday.

R.R. Math: Math packets for R. Room math are due next Friday.


Humanities: Students were introduced to the causes of the American Revolution by beginning a KLW in class. No homework.

Chinese: Create a Chinese first name, and learn to write"my name is...." in characters.

Spanish (Tomlinson): In-class folder packets--due Friday 11/1. Flashcards--1.2 due Monday, 11/4

Spanish II: If you owed me any of the exercises due yesterday and today, please make sure that they are finished for tomorrow, since we will be going over them.

French I: Chapter 1 test is tomorrow. Study your pronouns and verb endings


Art 7/8: Students are still completing the 9 part motif inspired painting with choice of intermediates, complementary or analagous color family. Students worked on a topsey turvey doodle drawing and a zoo animal drawing while I was at the MAEA Conference.

Advanced Art Grade 8: Shattered value drawing is completed, graded and proudly displayed in the showcase in the front hallway. Students have now picked a still life item, made a view finder and will be drawing 6 different views of their chosen still life. Six different art mediums will be used!


Pre-Algebra: Multi-step equation solving. Remember to "keep, change, change" and collect like terms berfore solving for the variable. HW: Pre-Algebra By Design Equation Solving worksheet (you may skip problems that have a variable on both sides of the equation)


Course 3: Homework-worksheet 5.2, #6 - 9, 18 - 21, 25.

Algebra:  Test Tomorrow!  see attached answers to review stations and stations part 2.

ELA -  We learned how to take notes on a short story we are analyzing yesterday, due to the high number of students that were absent yesterday I will be reteaching this lesson tomorrow during lunch.  Many students have already signed up for this. Students showed their Entrance Slip of the Elements of a Short Story filled out on the short story they will be analyzing.  We practiced how to create a theory about our characters and find evidence in the story to support that theory. Homework: Write three theories for the story the student is analyzing, find evidence to support all theories (as much as possible), and write bigger meaning for each - Journal #44

Humanities: Students took chapter 5 test in class today. No homework.

Science:Finished Multiple Intelligence Posters and began investigation 1-A, looking at how mass affects speed of a car on the flat track. Homework is to make sure your binder is organized!

Geometry: Introduced transformations and rigid motions and practiced identifying transformations and identifying rigid motions. Homework is practice  on page 38-39 of the packet (#1-15).

Algebra:  Test coming up this Thursday!!  Attached are the answers to the wksts. 6-4, 6-5 as promised.  Also attached are the Review Station problems and answers (page 1 and 2).  Homework:  Chapter Review for 3/6 part 2 (also attached)

Chinese: Find a Chinese last name through reading handout. Learn to pronounce and write it. 


Spanish (Tomlinson): Test--1.1 tomorrow Review due tomorrow (this is in addition to the one from yesterday). Flashcards for 1.2 due Monday


Pre-Algebra: Today we started solving one-step equations using addition and subtraction. HW: 2nd hour - additional review packet page. 3rd hour - One-Step Equation Solving worksheet (found in packet)


ELA - Students listened to me model reading "The Gift of the Magi" for analysis.  Stopping to think about Big Ideas, looking up words we were not familiar with, pausing after an important event was described and "wondering" what that meant to our main characters.  Students then re-read their packets making markings on the side noticing the same types of things.  Students should choose a story that "speaks" to them from their Text Packet to use as their Independent Text (the story they will analyze for their final Literary Analysis Paper). For tonight's journal entry, students should write the "Big Ideas" of their independent text and fill out the Short Story Elements worksheet given to them in class.  This will be checked as an "Entrance Slip" tomorrow. Homework: Journal Entry #42 (directions above) and READ! Lit Analysis
 End of Marking Period Deadlines:
Thursday - Personal Journals with 45 entries, a table of contents, and in the proper format.
Thursday - 5 AR quizzes for 1st Marking Period.
