Science: Continued Investigation 2-A (The Law of Inertia) by graphing the mass and speed data we collected yesterday. No homework!
Geometry: Completed the 3.6 notes (proving lines perpendicular). 3.6 worksheet is homework. Chapter 3 test is Friday.
Humanities: Students continued to work with atlases as an introduction to the thirteen British colonies. Current events due tomorrow.
Pre-Algebra: Some students took the quiz on lessons 2.1 - 2.3. I gave the students the option of taking it tomorrow due to Halloween. Those who did not take it today will tomorrow. They will swap assignments. Those who did not take quiz must do pages 108 and 109, # 5 - 24.
Art 7/8: 1st hr. - Demonstration on using oil pastels and blending stumps to create our Andy Warhol inspired photos. 4th and 5th hrs.- Discuss the history of Andy Warhol.
Advanced Art grade 8: Demonstration on "shattering" the subject in their current drawings.
Algebra (Graham) Reviewed section 6.6 today. We have a test covering sections 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 on Thursday! Remember I am available before school and at lunch for extra help. I have attached the review that students will be given tomorrow if they want to get a head start. Our homework today was worksheet 6.6 which I have also included.

Science: Began Unit 2: Newton's Laws of Motion with Investigation 2-A, which involved collecting speed data for cars of varying mass on a flat track. No homework!
Geometry: Went over the 3.4 homework and 3.5 notes (equations of lines using slope-intercept and standard form) and quizzes were returned.. This section should come very easy to students as it is all review from algebra. 3.5 worksheet is homework. Chapter 3 test is Friday
Humanities: Students discussed chapter 1-2 quiz, were introduced to English colonization and worked on atlas sheets in class. No homework. Current events due Wednesday. Happy Halloween.

Journal for chapters 20-23 is due Thursday - every student should include their theory on what the end of the book means....we will be debating/discussing that next week (as there is no "right" answer). Chapters 20-23 quiz is Friday as usual. Final test for The Giver will begin NEXT Thursday, November 10th. This will include vocabulary from all chapter sections as well as content questions. Please remember, with a new marking period come 3 new AR books due. If your student is reading a book a month and taking the quizzes, he/she should be on track. Homework: Read

Today is a 1/2 day due to conferences. 1st - 4th hours met today.
Science: Discussed the "Multiple Intelligence" Inventory and did a group activity with our new table groups.

Language Arts: Morning classes took their The Giver chapters 16-19 quiz, it is looking like afternoon classes will take their quizzes on Monday. The Halloween festivities and band concerts are going to be taking the majority of class time, and I don't want students feeling rushed.

Science: Students were given an opportunity to go over their tests from yesterday. We also completed a multiple intelligence inventory. Labs will be passed back at conferences tonight and tomorrow or in school on Friday.
Geometry: Went over 3.2 & 3.3 homework as well as the 3.3 notes. Began notes on section 3.4. Homework is 3.4 worksheet, #1-6, 22-24 & 28-30. Chapter 3 quiz is tomorrow.
Language Arts: Chapters 16-19 class discussion was very animated. Students are loving this book. Quiz times are staggered due to half days and the Halloween Parade. * Hours 1 and 2 will take their quiz tomorrow. * Hours 5 and 7 MIGHT take their quiz on Friday, therefore should be prepared to take the quiz if we have time, if not they should review the information Sunday evening in preparation for Monday . * Monday will be the definite day for 6th hour (as I will most likely not see them at all on Friday). Did you follow that? I'm not sure I did :) Please go over this with your student so they understand the craziness. Regardless of the date of taking the quiz, this quiz will be the first grade in the new marking period. The final chapter section is due next week. Thursday. Looking forward to seeing parents at conferences.
Art 7/8: We are starting a unit on Andy Warhol . Students will be participating in a "photo tinting" assignment. I will be taking black and white photos of all students. I will enlarge these to 8" x 10" photos. Then students will add color to their own photo by adding oil pastels.
Advanced Art grade 8: All "flower puns" have been completed and graded. We have now moved on to the "shattered values" project. Most students have chosen a subject and started basic line drawings. I demonstrated the "grid transfer" technique yesterday in class. Some students have started transferring their smaller drawings onto larger drawing paper.
Pre-Algebra: We talked about distributive property and simplifying expressions. Homework-worksheet 2.3, #11 - 14, 22 - 24.

Science: Took the Unit 1 Test. Labs are graded and will be returned to families at conferences this Wednesday & Thursday, or to students on Friday. (Mrs. Petersen is out sick today).

Geometry: Shared our conditional advertisements/slogans and 3.1 notes. 3.1 worksheet is homework.
Humanities: Students took AR quizzes (almost there with 4 class periods left of 1st marking period) and studied for their The Giver 11-15 quiz. New Vocabulary words were posted in the room and on my Berkley Schools website. Quiz was taken, Illustrations and publishable pieces were turned in. Homework: READ! Next week's chapters are 16-19 due to short week - Chapters are due for class discussion by WEDNESDAY! Quiz will be on Thursday or Friday due to the short week/days for Parent Teacher Conferences.
Art 7/8: Aluminum tooling project is coming to an end. Students have cut their own frames using exacto knives, designed frames completed them by using colored pencils and the layering technique. Grading rubrics have been discussed. These projects are due by next Tues. at the end of class.
