Science: Today we went over the Critique Reflection portion for the "How Fast Am I?" lab and students then were able to either start on their rough drafts, complete their research or any other work they needed to do for the lab. The rough draft of the lab is due on Monday (the lab planner does NOT count as the rough draft) and the final draft is due on Thursday, October 20. Click here for a copy of the rubric.
Geometry: Today we went over most of the practice test. Because we didn't get to finish our discussion I have decided to move the test to Thursday, October 20 (Geometry doesn't meet on Tuesday or Wednesday next week because of the MEAP). Homework is to complete the chapter review on pages 134-137, odds only.
Humanities: Students turned in homework folders and continued our discussion of European exploration in class today. No homework. Go State!
Spanish I: vocab quiz on 1.2 (pg 69) on Monday, October 17th.
Language Arts: Students took their Vocabulary/The Giver chap 1-10 quiz and then were given time to take AR quizzes, read, or work on their Science Fiction rewrite & illustration. The grade for the rewrite & illustration will be separate from the written piece grade. This will help with any unsatisfactory grades. Morning classes will turn in their publishable written piece and illustration on Friday, October 21st. Afternoon classes will turn in their publishable written piece and illustration on Wednesday, October 19th. This is due to the four morning classes that have been taken up by the MEAP. Homework: READ don't forget all students have three books to read on their own and take the AR quiz on for each marking period. Time management is key, students should have at least two quizzes taken by now to be up to date.
Pre-Algebra: We continued to talk about the Commutative, Associative, and Identity Properties of Addition and Multiplication. Homework-worksheet 2.1, #1-20.
Phys. Ed. Question for October: Now that school has started, how has your physical activity level changed? How are you fitting in daily exercise? What are some of the activities you are doing and how often? What activities influence you to be inactive? Essays should be informative, neat and completed on time. Papers are due on or before Thursday, October 20, 2011.

Geometry: Went over the 2.7 worksheet and quizzes were returned. Most common mistakes on the quiz included not completely answering questions and confusing inductive with deductive reasoning. Students can do corrections by explaining their mistakes or how to solve the problem. For examples of deductive reasoning students should look back at the notes from section 2.3. The Chapter 2 Practice Test is homework.

Science: Finished collecting data for "How Fast Am I?", calculated speed and started working on the graphs. Tomorrow we will complete graphs and do the research. 3rd hour does not meet today or tomorrow due to the MEAP, they need to complete the research on their own for homework.
Geometry: Completed 2.7 notes (using angle relationships in proofs) and went over the 2.6 homework. 2.7 worksheet is homework. We will not have geometry tomorrow due to the MEAP and Fun Run. Chapter 2 test is Monday, October 17.

Students that met for ELA were shown a Science Fiction video (from the Martian Chronicles), given time to read their AR books or take quizzes, work on their Subject/Predicate packet, or work on their The Giver weekly reading and journal. Please be sure that your student has a novel to read after the MEAP, it is a great time to get some AR reading under their belts!

MEAP starts tomorrow! 8th graders will be taking the Reading MEAP Tuesday & Wednesday this week. 8th grade will also be selling granola bars and fruit leather in the morning before school for 50 cents.

These words are in chapters 6-10 of The Giver, students should be writing down the page # they find each vocabulary word as they encounter it in the text. We finished up our class discussion from last week and took notes. Due to the confusion on Subjects and Predicates, I made up a packet for students to be completing at home. This packet is due on Thursday, please review these packets with your students and reinforce the difference between a subject and predicate. MEAP is tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday... be sure your student comes to school with an AR book to read when they are done with each section of MEAP they can catch up on their AR reading.
Art 7/8: Students have completed the tooling portion of their aluminum. I have demonstrated the cutting of the frame with e-xacto knives and "boo-boo" boards. Next step is carrying the initial design onto the frame and adding layers of colored pencil.

Science: Today we began planning the "How Fast Am I?" lab, which is the inquiry lab for Unit #1. We will be collecting data for this lab next week Monday & Tuesday (3rd hour is invited to a pizza lunch on Monday so that they can complete data collection as this class does not meet Tuesday & Wednesday due to the MEAP). Lab planner is attached. Quizzes were also returned, quiz corrections are due on Monday.
Geometry: We spent a lot of time discussing the 2.5 homework and then started the quiz. We also discussed a comment made during the Tiger's game last night about pitches changing planes as an example to further deepend our understanding of planes. The quiz was assigned as homework. The chapter 2 test will be Monday, October 17.

Final Plea for Fun Run donations! Please turn in pledges of any amount! There will be prizes for the top fund raisers, including gift cards, a week of Slurpee's, pizza, lunch with teachers, assistant principal for the day, and principal for the day. There will also be two special prizes (one for PYP and one for MYP - 4th hour class) for the classrooms that raise the most. Those are $100 work of books for PYP and $100 of educational materials of the class' choice for MYP. Please help us make this fund-raising event great!
Science: Practiced analyzing graphs of motions with both distance vs. time graphs and speed vs. time graphs. No homework. Quizzes are graded and the grades are posted, quizzes will be returned tomorrow.
Geometry: Went over the 2.4 homework and finished the 2.5 notes. Students are getting their first tastes of proofs and may get frustrated. Frustration is ok! Frustration is good! Don't give up! 2.5 worksheet is homework. Chapter 2 quiz is tomorrow.
Spanish I students must meet me tomorrow Friday by the art room, and we will go to the computer lab at Avery. The 1.1 chapter test has been moved to Tuesday, October 11th

Language Arts: Students turned in their Vocabulary Sentences....we will be having a full blown lesson set next week on Subjects and Predicates, these kids need a review! We then adjourned to the Lab/Media Center to type our final drafts for our Science Fiction papers.....due tomorrow in this order: Rubric, 1st Draft (with Mark Up) Revision, Final Draft (illustrations will be completed during MEAP week). Also due tomorrow is The Giver Chapters 1-5 & journal ready for Class Discussion.
